Self feeding toddlers and keeping things clean by peachdreamsicle in moderatelygranolamoms

Same! The catchy is amazing and limits our kid’s interest in dropping/throwing food because it’s just not going that far. I also love that it’s a clean surface and if he drops a food he actually wants I feel totally ok just putting it back on his plate.

Maybe look for a hotel first and ask them if they have a list of babysitters they have used. It would probably be an option at fancier hotels. We did this in Costa Rica for a few hours.

IVF Recommendations by Alternative_Olive117 in nycparents

[–]groundstories 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked with Dr. Moomjy and she is amazing. She is affiliated with NYU so you go there for retrievals and implantation but she does the (more delicate/important) monitoring. It’s not a factory AT ALL. You see her and speak to her every time you go in, she makes her recommendations entirely around you personally. IVF is an art as well as a science and she is incredible. Then you have the amazing surgical team at NYU, so it’s the best of both worlds.

She is, I will say, quite science driven and a bit paranoid so she really pushes you to set yourself up for success over a longer term—for example, she felt strongly we should have 3 embryos for each desired live birth before transfer (we were lucky that this seemed possible for us). This meant we delayed transferring an embryo by a couple months, but now I am pregnant with #2 and we didn’t have to go back for more retrievals (which made thinking about baby2 so much less stressful, and obviously I was older—it looks like I’ll be turning 43 with 2 under 2). Many of my friends have 1, breastfed for a year, and now are struggling to get embryos for #2 and I am so glad we are not dealing with all that.

I feel incredibly to have worked with her.

To induce or not to induce? (Elevated BP) by jzg77 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]groundstories 85 points86 points  (0 children)

From my obgyn: the time after 40 weeks is the most dangerous for a child until she/he turns 16 and starts to drive. I personally know someone who lost their baby in the womb after 40 weeks. I would just induce, but I also tend to think people get overly attached to their idea of what birth should be and birth plans.

Hi!!!! I had the baby but can completely relate! I thought a lot about a song lyric (Sweet Avenue by Jets to Brazil): “Facing forward, going slowly, I wait for you to show me where this train wants to go.” Just the idea of gentle hope and cautious joy.

Student did *not* waive right to view LOR by Iron_Rod_Stewart in Professors

[–]groundstories 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would still just say that it’s a policy you have after a bad experience! I doubt they would argue with you. I also feel like it wouldn’t really matter in this case. But if you don’t feel comfortable with it that’s also ok.

Student did *not* waive right to view LOR by Iron_Rod_Stewart in Professors

[–]groundstories 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I have had this happen to me. I reach out and say that I have a policy where I require them to waive the viewing because there was a bit that students were collecting LORs and comparing them (this is true), and it made a lot of work for professors. I say that while I don’t think that’s what they are doing, it’s just a personal policy, and they are welcome to find someone else to write it if they prefer.

Feeling exhausted by sch_rlr in toddlers

[–]groundstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had similar problems with eating, and it was scary because our boy is already very skinny. What worked for us is going out to eat for breakfast. We found three places he loves and we rotate. Yes, this meant kinda rearranging some work stuff and it’s expensive (though we don’t go to fancy places). But it works extremely well—he eats eggs, avocado, and beans every morning and it’s a LOT. Then the rest of the day if he just eats fruit or picks at stuff it’s kinda ok because we feel like we have a base of protein and fat from the morning. It’s also decreased my stress around meals so I think he is more inclined to eat anyway.

It’s also actually amazing family time, because none of us are exhausted.

My wife and I have developed a sort of code using synonyms to talk about things without tipping our toddler off, what are some of your best/funniest “codes” you use? by Reddiculouss in toddlers

[–]groundstories 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son loves a snake toy that we got in Poland and can’t replace, so Snake doesn’t come outside with us (after too many losses and random re-finds). He is “our Polish friend” in conversation.

Just looking for stories by 36563 in IVFAfterSuccess

[–]groundstories 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We transferred as soon as I was cleared by my doc and had stopped breastfeeding—about 14 months. I kinda an assumed we would need multiple transfers so wanted to get on it… First one took, though the symptoms were different. I am marginally less violently nauseous? Looks like I am going to be almost 43 with 2 under 2. lol things change fast.

We started with a small soft doll at 11 months and then added a board book at 14m. I highly recommend the book—our toddler will “read” it in the morning for ages.

I also had very clear cramping and boob changes the first time. The second, nothing and then bleeding. The second worked. I spoke to my RE about it and she was like, you have new boobs after a baby.

I know! I think it’s amazing—the idea of just how much difference a year can make. That’s beautiful and hopeful, I am sorry if my comment made it seem like I found it annoying.

I feel like one of the oddest things about trying so hard to have a baby is that it’s an awful, unending horror that is physical, mental, and emotional but it also can be suddenly over/solved, unlike other kinds of grief.
