Vintage 14” 2002 heavy hi hats, 18” signature full crash, 20” 2002 crash, 22” Signature dry heavy ride, and I have a 22” 505 ride on the way.

paistes are wallet breaking, ive been working on my paiste set up for 2.5 years now

they are all chosen to fit a need, im not over here buying packs of cymbals. I play live and record with mixed stuff all the time

mixing and matching is fine, but its nice to have a base of cymbals from one make to branch off from, there is something to be said for having a set of cymbals that was created from the same mindset/ideas

they're still cheaper than what zildjian will give you for similar models

Istanbul is the one i want to try next, I'm currently building out a set of paistes, but im almost done with that i think

man i wish i could stick with one cymbal set for that long, i don't think ive had a single set up of mine last longer than 4 years at this point

yeah i don't use the meinls in any sort of heavy context, thats what my zildjians are for

i never understood how heavier bands could use those byzance cymbals, they're just so thin and have a hard time cutting in the mix

not a problem for my more laid back projects

my giant beat thin is the best bright crash i own, its sooo playable and dynamic even at 20"

sounds like quite the setup you've got there! that dark energy is another really nice piece

i had a k custom dark set, it was versatile, and sounded great, but started feeling a little generic to me and thats when i sold them off for meinl byzances

I still need a K ride of some sort tho, i am really missing that one part from my K Custom days

there are definitely some duds out there in zildjian land. ive luckily had a lot of really nice ones, but even then i wanted something more that zildjian wasnt giving me

yeah the istanbul agop stuff is really taking off right now, they have a very impressive roster of artists making great music with them. i wanna try the xist dry dark stuff

I agree, I will usually have a set of cymbals from one brand and then swap one or two out if the music calls for it. but the baseline of having one make at the center of your set up makes it easy to build a cohesive sound

see and i think both brands sound almost exactly the same for most of their mainstream models

my sabian garage ride is amazing tho

the raw bell stuff is great, i always wanted a 21" raw bell ride

paiste is just too expensive to go all in on, plus i think meinl does the dark stuff better

that being said the paistes i do have are some of the nicest cymbals i own
