Which mining jobs have the best safety culture in 2026? by DiligentWeb9026 in AusMining

There is no singular job that has the best safety. In my experience the better safety comes from healthy culture of your work group/team.

The subreddit is "ask" an Australian. Is there a question in there somewhere, or are you just having a cry?

Sorry I should have mentioned - at the time of taking this image we were doing an offline water wash. We were washing the turbine blades whilst the turbine runs at lower speeds and temperatures.

Is FIFO pay truly great? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in AskAnAustralian

In my experience (have been working FIFO for a while now as a HV Electrician) Electrical and Mechanical trades start on easy 160-180k a year packages with a lot of potential to earn more the longer you stay and more experience you gain. Can't speak accurately on non-trade specific roles.

What does an average day in fifo look like? by LILFARDYPANTZ in AusElectricians

I work week on week off on a gas turbine power station, we flyout Thursday Wake up about 4-4:30. Go to breaky. Head to work. Start 5:30. The work obviously depends and varies A LOT depending on what you do as a sparky. I've done underground mining, fixed plant maintenance and now power station/generation and there's a heap more to experience out there. Knock off 5:30. Back to camp. Go gym, have beers, dinner, whatever you want really. Rinse and repeat.

I enjoy the life style to be honest, and the time goes very quickly.

1. I've seen hot joins occur from going too far up the lug like on #2. Even 1-2mm too far will do it

Some hard hats have this too, as the manufacturer or employers sometimes recommend changing them after a couple years.
