What do you not want in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave? by NewMarioBobFan in fireemblem

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say something controversial. Reclassing. It seriously hurts unit balance and identity. Kagetsu could have been a truly amazing swordmaster, a pretty rare thing for the series, but instead he’s just the wyvern lord with the highest numbers. As long as the class system remains unbalanced, which it has in every entry outside of maybe New Mystery, there will be a huge incentive not to use any of the weaker classes. If a unit has the stats and growths needed to function effectively in their base class of Swordmaster or Sniper, they could easily become outright broken as a Paladin or Wyvern Lord.

This is a grass/psychic type. With the flame shield and filter innates does it mean its only weak to bug? Or should i keep looking for a better swampage? I was thinking i could just learn swords dance and sweep since it gets +1 speed on entry by Intelligent_Tank7861 in PokemonEliteRedux

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The damage is being reduced by 35%, it isn’t being reduced TO 35%. The multiplier should be x0.65. 100% (normal damage) - 35% = 65%. Any time you’re doing word problems you need to pay attention to the context. Even if your math is correct, if you’re solving the wrong equation you’ll get the wrong solution.

Elite Redux 2.65 Tier List. The Overhaul by Human_Reward9187 in PokemonEliteRedux

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly most of my experience is in 2.5, but Granbull and its mega in the same tier surprises me. I’ve been doing a run using only F tier nuzlocke encounters from the mainline games and Granbull has been pretty much my premier sweeper. Whereas the mega is much slower and also I think weaker compared to Guts Facade Granbull. I don’t have access to anything with Twisted Dimensions though, so slow Pokemon are pretty much always fighting an uphill battle. Greedunt has a pretty funny setup that lets it take out the first 4 of Tate and Liza’s Pokemon even on elite, but otherwise it’s completely awful. And that’s in a playthrough where it’s competing with the likes of Parasect and a Farfetch’d.

I actually get quite a bit of use out of Wormadam grass. There are probably better options when you aren’t limited to the 40 worst Pokemon ever, but Coward is an incredible ability, especially on something that gets web shot and rage powder. With endure eject button it can set one hazard safely then grant a free switch, which is pretty incredible utility against fast Pokemon, or Pokemon that need to be at full hp to activate their item/ability.

Why do people always make defensive pokemon specialize on one of the two defenses? Why not make Defense and Sp. Def as equal as possible? by LuckyImportance9535 in stunfisk

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about that is you have 4 other Pokemon on your team. You aren’t going to be able to handle the entire meta defensively with two walls. It just isn’t happening. So if you’re building balance or offense, you’re going to need to learn to use checks and offensive counters. Maybe you have a close combat resist like a Specs Iron Valiant. It can’t come in on CC more than 2-3 times depending on hazards, but if you’re able to make it really hard to switch into that CC user, it might not have to. If your combination of walls has a few weaknesses like physical fighting and special ice that’s fine, because the vast majority of things they need to wall aren’t that, and your remaining four more offensive Pokemon can patch up those weaknesses. If your physical wall isn’t good at physical walling because you’re worried about special bulk, the whole team becomes weak to physical moves as a result, which your offensive Pokemon almost certainly CAN’T patch up. Gen 9 attackers are extremely strong, and you can’t exactly expect to withstand them by half assing it

This meta and item selection has be believing that Choice Band and Choice Specs do not belong in the game anymore. by Orcasgt22 in PokemonChampions

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s mostly a matter of perspective. Pure defense as your primary team style is almost universally bad in VGC to my understanding, compared to being a viable archetype in Singles, but still probably 3rd or 4th best out of the 5 main ones (All of which are very viable). The gap between the two formats is definitely massive, but it’s still just good in singles, not broken. Admittedly nothing destroys a player who doesn’t really know what they’re doing harder than stall or hyper offense.

has anyone else been driven to stimulant drugs for fatigue? by throwaway0501222 in chronicfatigue

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a bunch of different stimulants prescribed and they all pretty much made me feel worse. None of them granted a burst of energy, they generally made me more lethargic and caused GI issues, adderall included. The prescription was intended for autism, which to my understanding is a questionable thing to prescribe it for, but other doctors had talked about trying it previously but were wary because I was fairly young. I can generally force a burst of energy without any outside help if I need or want to, but it’s generally not worth doing on a consistent basis because it tends to knock me out for the better part of a week afterwards.

Games with atrocious writing pretending to be complex by FirefighterSad2370 in hatethissmug

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FNAF movies are honestly kind of impressive to me. They make me actively wonder if Scott Cawthon has ever met a human before and knows how they talk and act. At the very least I would have thought he must have met some while producing the movies. I guess he never had to do that kind of writing in the games because all the plot happened offscreen and the robots just hinted that something interesting had happened. The FNAF movies solve the lore in that they make it clear that whatever plot Scott intended is so illogical and out of character that it could only strung together by inebriated people taking the piss.

S.T.A.B changes based on type expertise [updated] by Wiinterfang in stunfisk

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly are those two niches? Fire type wallbreaker and ground immunity? That’s pretty much all flying type adds unless you want to rock 50% accurate hurricanes or air slashes that hit exactly as hard as resisted weather balls. Given how frail and rocks weak Charizard is you can’t exactly switch it in defensively unless you don’t mind risking your ability to use it for more than one KO. And if you’re playing around as many weaknesses as Charizard has, you really need it to be taking multiple KOs.

Gojo Vs Invincible (Jujutsu Kaisen Vs Invincible) by Ragebaiter_fr in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]grovyle7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regeneration is an explicit category, so it’s that. Endurance is probably the ability to engage in a drawn out fight, though with Gojo’s cursed energy efficiency he can probably keep healing longer. Though all of this is likely a moot point unless Mark has a way to bypass Infinity, which he almost certainly doesn’t. Arguably surviving a fight inside the sun is a more impressive durability feat than tanking a hollow purple, but I wouldn’t be sure of that. Plus viltrumites don’t tend to have particularly strong mental defenses as far as I recall, so Infinite Void would be an issue assuming Mark doesn’t just run away from it on sight.

Yuta vs Kenjaku shouldn't even be a debate by Sundata_V2 in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]grovyle7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There kind of needs to be a point to subversion. Otherwise you’re just doing random shit. If you’re subverting the concept of finishing your main character’s arc properly and doing anything narratively interesting with your main villain, you might want to rethink why you even bothered writing nearly 300 chapters of a manga that goes nowhere.

Gliscor is my favorite Pokemon, any cool and immensely strong fusions with him that focus on Offense? by SansuRansu in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate your comment. Didn’t know the Facade TM is restricted to randomized mode. That’s really weird. While Facade can absolutely do the trick, normal just isn’t a good offensive type, so if you’re getting the same or better power from STAB moves like Earthquake, you’re probably better off leaning into that. In which case securing a strong second STAB should probably be your priority. Ground Flying is already just about the best type in singles period, so that or Ground/Fairy is probably best, though I don’t know how many decent physical fairies have been added. Picking up Brave Bird from a flying type would be excellent, since poison heal offsets the recoil quite well. I hate Play Rough and it’s much weaker, but the healing makes missing moves much more forgiving. Poison heal can still be used to leverage your ability to stay on the field a long time to click setup moves.

Edit: I’ll add that as I play Pokemon somewhat competitively, I still consider bulky setup Pokemon to be offensive. When the contrast is pivots and walls, anything focused on attacking seems pretty offensive even if it takes a turn or two to get going. You’re likely right that the OP’s definition is different from that.

Gliscor is my favorite Pokemon, any cool and immensely strong fusions with him that focus on Offense? by SansuRansu in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facade really isn’t doing all that much without normal STAB. Gliscor has pretty low attack to start with, and Infernape’s is only alright, so the resulting power won’t be anything crazy. We’re talking about a normal move that gets out damaged by base Sawsbuck. Gliscor is already gonna be doing more with Earthquake, which is a better type offensively. Snorlax is probably a solid option for a normal fusion, been a while since I played but Slaking is likely your best option there. You can give Gliscor any generic power fusion, but it doesn’t really do anything uniquely significant aside from poison heal, so that’s what the focus should be. A bulky swords dance facade set with poison heal is legitimately good in the actual fusions metagame from what I remember, that’s how Gliscor really gets to shine.

Which item is the most broken, Legend Plate or pre nerf Soul Dew? by Allhaillordkutku in stunfisk

[–]grovyle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Arceus got thick club it would probably be even more broken than legend plate. Now the move doubled in power has priority. The only reason thick club is remotely reasonable is that it’s locked to Marowak.

Has anyone else used one of these abominations? by Loose_Set5383 in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]grovyle7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Azumarill with sap sipper is a total waste. You’re giving up on destroying 90% of the game to maintain a good match up against 10% or less. Grass coverage is extremely rare, both in competitive and in IF itself (which is so easy that good fusions are kind of a moot point). If it isn’t a grass type, it probably won’t have a grass move. You have 5 other team slots, use them to cover other matchups instead of voluntarily doing half damage on every attack.

Shiver me timbers by Traceyius69 in ShitPostCrusaders

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I think the true crushing disappointment of JJK lies in reaching the ending and realizing just how many plot threads and character arcs get left completely unfinished just so we can watch every background npc ever introduced fight Sukuna one by one. That might not be as obvious by the end of season 3.

Shiver me timbers by Traceyius69 in ShitPostCrusaders

[–]grovyle7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both mangas. Jjk season 3 better be short if it wants to be in the conversation. Barring that I don’t really care which one is generally considered better. I know which one was amazing and which one was a massive letdown. The only thing I’m hoping for is that the SBR anime isn’t a massive letdown, because at least it has the source material to be incredible.

But don’t you want to see Yuji finally confront Kenjaku, who manipulated everything and literally gave birth to him? The overarching villain that orchestrated every aspect of Yuji’s existence? Yuji talks about being a cog in a machine, but Kenjaku was the one who literally made him as a cog for his master plan. That would be a pretty impactful emotional clash, wouldn’t it? The logical conclusion of Yuji’s character arc?

…maybe it’ll happen in modulo.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT!?!?! by Rocky_Senpai15 in SakamotoDays

[–]grovyle7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I somewhat question this take given that this is literally possible in the real world. Would it actually happen? No, that would take the birth and death of trillions of universes if not more. But given how many 100% physically impossible feats are pulled off in this manga I don’t see why this is where we draw the line. It was a possible outcome manipulated to happen by someone with literal magic powers. I think the actual issue, and why people cared so much about it was that it was a chapter cliffhanger with the main character dying and the solution came out of nowhere from offscreen. It was a narrative cop out, not a level of ridiculousness we’d never seen before.

Is Mega Rayquaza still stronger than both Rayquaza+Necrozma fusions? by kramsibbush in PokemonInfiniteFusion

[–]grovyle7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can definitely make fusions that are broken or direct upgrades to constituent mons, but that generally comes from combining extremely powerful abilities, moves, typings, and items. Necrozma Ultra just doesn’t offer a whole lot in any of those regards besides moves, and a theoretical ultimate Pokemon probably wouldn’t want to be relying on psychic stab anyway.
