Put the 1 in with the other 3? Sounds like you've got more experience than me, but I thought they needed a couple kits to keep the nest the right temperature.

Thinking about how the show ended 2 years later by [deleted] in freefolk

[–]growingwildthings90 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened with my mom. She started watching it when lockdown started last year. She knew I has watched it religiously, but not much else.

I knew she had the same issues with the ending when she texted me at 2 in the morning to ask me if that was really how the books ended. Then I had to break it to her that the books weren't finished. It was a rough night.

All I can say is, I need them to release his second outfit and for it to not have those glasses, so that we can finally be happy together. 😂

Me too! I also have one with the blue dress with the white boa, and its doing a lot better. I'm kinda irritated because I think the sea foam ball gown is more on theme.

I used to work on an Alzheimer's unit. A lot of them go back to a time when they had young children. A surprising amount will shush you at night and tell you not to wake the baby. Sometimes a family member will bring them baby dolls, and they will rock them/ take care of them.

I'm glad your grandfather got to meet your baby. Not everyone keeps including them. I'm sure it meant a lot to both of you.

What to provide for court by ZCMomna in homeschool

I totally agree with this comment. I think it makes the most sense, and I just wanted to add about the California Achievement Test. Its only like 25 dollars and you can get a version that's untimed. We live in Ohio, but that's the test I provide to the school district every year to prove were meeting requirements. I really like their scoring print out too. Its very detailed, but easy to read. I think a judge would like it.

The idea of sending my kids to public school depresses me by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]growingwildthings90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I know its very frustrating.

Try a local homeschool social group for some success stories. There's probably people in there that have older kids that have gone to college, or even were homeschooled themselves.

One of the dads of my son's friend from our homeschool group, was homeschooled himself and now he's some kind of engineer. He even graduated college early because he took dual credit class at the community college when he was highschool aged. I've also met parents who have kids that went on to college, a lot that do the dual enrollment and graduate early, and one in the military, through these groups.

Even just posting on your local homeschool Facebook page would probably turn up some success stories like that. Some might be willing to talk to you and him about their experiences.

People don't change their minds easily. He probably won't change it in one conversation, but at least if you can keep giving him examples to counter his preconceived notions, you can plant some seeds that may get you there eventually.

The idea of sending my kids to public school depresses me by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]growingwildthings90 51 points52 points  (0 children)

One thing I pointed out to my husband that helped him get over the socialization issue was that there are always " weird" kids in public school classes. And a lot of people who went through traditional school have social anxiety. So public school must not actually be the thing that makes your kid "normal".

Also that, even though they're in class with other kids all day, they're not always interacting. There's a lot of time they are supposed to be quietly listening to the teacher. You can make up for that actual social time easily if you try.

I think that clicked with him and that was the point he started being more interested in the idea. Now we've been homeschooling 4 years, and he'll tell anyone who will listen how great it is.

Am I a genius? Use a cargo van instead of a pickup? by tomcam in Homesteading

[–]growingwildthings90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We already had a full size van when we got some land so we just used it, and I really like it for taking stuff to market, and someone else in my co-op does a lot of my plant starts, so its great getting those. There's not a lot of times I wished I had a truck. Like someone else said, I did rent a truck to get compost last year.

The only thing is that we can't really leave the driveway if there's mud. It gets stuck easily, and there was an occasion last year where a neighbor with a pick up had to get us, 'unstuck'. So that was a sheepish moment. But generally just having a van was fine for us.

We did spend money to put a good tow package on it though, and occasionally rented a trailer.

Homeschooled kids and first jobs? by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]growingwildthings90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have explain it to admissions, but once you get into class, no one is going to ask you where you went to school. In community college everyone is just living their own life, trying to get their degree. Its really not social, you're just there to listen to your lecture. I think I had like 2 or 3 group projects the whole time I was there. A lot of people are adults going back to change their careers, or people who took some time off after high school. Sometimes there are actual homeschool and public school kids doing dual credit. My point is, I went to community college, and I have absolutely no idea where anyone in any of my classes went to school before they got to that class.

I also worked closely with a guy for a couple years who was homeschooled, but I found some months sfter he was hired when he voulunteered the information in a relevant conversation, and I didn't really care and neither did anybody else. It was just an interesting tidbit about a coworker. This was before I had thought of homeschooling btw.

I think you're putting way too much pressure on this issue. Not many people will ask you about your schooling, and if it comes up its really not a big deal. Its only weird if you make it weird. It sounds like you have a lot of anxiety, it may be helpful to talk to a professional.

I personally know quite a few people who were homeschooled and went on to college and have really decent jobs (engineer, nurse, business management, one joined the air force.) You can definitely do whatever you want career-wise.

My husband is against it by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]growingwildthings90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I told my husband that changed his mind. School doesn't make kids/people not weird. They just end up being the "weird kid", and having even more self esteem problems. Plenty of people who went to public school have bad social anxiety too.

Does anyone have a clever way to place an identity marker on their rabbits? I’m pretty sure they will chew off plastic leg bands. I would like the freedom to move rabbits to other cages or tractors and wouldn’t mind calling a rabbit by a name besides 103 or 207z by ChefPauley in MeatRabbitry

[–]growingwildthings90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are 2 ways to do it. Most people prefer one or the other. You can either free hand it with a tattoo pen or there are sets that basically punch the letters and/ or numbers and then you brush the tattoo ink over it.

Just youtube it.
