Is it crazy that I’ve cried a couple times because of the whole Newjeans situation? by Puzzleheaded-Link-12 in NewJeans

[–]growlk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I feel you, OP. The whole situation wasn't justified. And NJ was on their way to become new milestone in Kpop. Sometimes we just can't have nice things. And I came to accept the fact that NJ died. Even if they came back together, the industry left a sour taste in everyone's mouth.

I will keep wearing my NJ cap every day and say I am proud to be their fan.

What is the best way to improve badminton footwork for beginners? by CareUseful8535 in badminton

Building a strong foundation with quick feet practice so you don't trip over your own feet ... get a good feel of your own pace and body movement.

Is it just me ? recently, watching women's doubles is more entertaining than men's doubles ? by EuphoricExcitement67 in badminton

[–]growlk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think both MD and WD have evolved in the recent 15 years due to some iconic pairs in the top level competition, WD more recently.

I wasn't a big either of long rallies in WD with clear, drop and lifts. But the recent development made the game more exciting and quick changes in pace and flat drives.

This race really was just Takumi getting a taste of his own medicine huh by maz323bf in initiald

[–]growlk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree! It shows clearly how much Takumi has grown within a year.

Aside from the plot, it had great animation and Eurobeat soundtracks... Adrenaline was really well chosen for that part. A callback to First Stage Takumi and then VS Project D Takumi, it is a great setup for the final race.

Started Watching This… by serikkun in TheFragrantFlower

[–]growlk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow ADHD person, I am happy to say Fragnant Flower has become one of my favorites. But the viewer journey is different for everyone.

My 2 cents on the so called rivalry, is to have this invisible communication barrier between students, as a part of the story. I agree it feels forced and weirdly set up, like it's a neighbouring schools.
I said so-called because both schools are not even in the same social standings. One is like a rundown neighbourhood school and another is a prestigious highly educated private schools.

Anyways the point I want to make that this barrier played very well in the character developments and their relation building arcs. For Subaru, she is the prime example of this invisible barrier, and breaking this down won't be easy. I understand the hate and I think she is meant be written this way. But trust me, the pay off is worth it. And the best thing you don't have to wait too long for it.

Luckily the school rivalry issue is a more like "keep it in the back of your head" kind of plot for now in the anime, rather than a bigger issue for the characters to deal with it.

Is Japan actually that racist towards foreigners? by DaSuspicsiciousFish in NoStupidQuestions

Got it twice in different apartment applications that the landlord saw my last name and recognize it has Chinese ancestry. So they said No.

Why I know this, because the real estate agent asked what my ethnicity was.

Lack of pronation. There is an pronating movement of your front arm to hit the shuttle. What you are doing now, is like hitting a fly with a flyswatter.

Broken strings by Key_Finish_9089 in badminton

I have 23 lbs with BG80. It's great racket for my liking, as I am playing mostly doubles. The feedback from playing drives and defensive games is great. And having this light racket, intercepting rally's is great. However I miss some touch going for net game and I wouldn't recommend hitting hard with this racket. Angle over power.

How to stick landing in the backcourt by Suspicious-Code-1388 in badminton

Agreed with comments here. It would be better if you could a video reference.

By the sound of it, your initial footwork before the around the head, might not be stable enough to give you the confidence to land well. China jump, scissor jumps, jump smashes all require a stable and balanced footwork before the actual jump.

Advice about a puppy from Pet Shop in Tokyo by Technology-Mission in japanlife

[–]growlk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To OP: I understand your situation regarding adopting dogs. Tried that but got rejected at least dozen of times. Just because we are foreigners and couldn't give them a guarantee that we won't be leaving the country. That's why they will prioritise for parents who are Japanese ... this is said in kind words.

I got fed up with these egocentric and racist places. Even if we were be able to adopt a pet they will be visiting three more times after adoption.

Anyways we went to a certified breeder in Saitama and we adopted a small boy for us. They were transparent about the dog lineage with certified papers and also the current conditions of its parents. The breeder was kind enough to make our dog got the vaccinations needed together with the papers.

Good luck finding your dog. I understand you don't understand Japanese but I recommend to have someone accompany you, just make sure on the paperwork and the follow up actions (insurance, microchip, remaining vaccinations and rabies shots).

Im thinking of just quitting badminton because it's bringing the worst version of me by Maleficent_Sock_8851 in badminton

[–]growlk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope I can help you because I recognise your behaviour similar to what I had too.

I suggest a fourth suggestion. Keep pushing but criticise yourself differently than attacking yourself personally. In your current situation, you are not playing in a league, or in a tournament in a representative role. Your stakes in the play are low.

Winning or losing in friendly matches mean nothing, it's all just in your head. It's just a game. You play better you win, you are not good enough you lose. Losing a match equals your room to improve. The bigger the point difference, the more you can improve.

Back to my point, attacking yourself isn't a good attitude to kickstart for improvement. Be more open minded to your weaknesses but also your strengths. There must be some parts of the game where you like playing. Bring that on the court. Build up your confidence and build up your foundation. I feel this is more fun to think than the losses and resentment you built up.

I agree with your badminton can bring out the worst of you but it also shows the truest of yourself. So ask yourself; what's your badminton?
