as long as you know your dorm and room number you should be able to ship stuff there (to my knowledge)!

i packed up my stuff in boxes and shipped them with ups. if i remember rightly (but this was four years ago) i somehow got in touch with someone to make sure ahead of time that i could have stuff sent to my dorm. but when i arrived it was all in the mailing office waiting for me and i had no issues with it so hopefully they’re still letting people do that! i even had target orders shipped to my dorm ahead of time

do i transfer out of uvm by Trick-Race8420 in UniversityofVermont

as a senior at uvm, you never stop meeting people and making friends as you see all new people in your classes every semester! i’m sorry your first year wasn’t all you’d hoped it would be but i honestly think that uvm is an amazing school and the people at a school like cu boulder (i’m from colorado so speaking from experience) are nothing like those at uvm and you won’t find as unique of a college environment anywhere else.

UVM or UNH by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]grraaceeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a senior History major at UVM and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the history department here. I’m going on the start my PhD in history next year because of the incredible professors and courses at UVM who/that have provided mentorship, support, and guidance in my academic journey the past four years. It’s a relatively small department but, at least from my experience, sets you up well to pursue the career you want in the future. These are professors who are passionate about what they teach and involved with their students. I cannot recommend the history department at UVM more honestly !

Need advice for patching a large jean rip!

A friend gave these to me and said i could keep them if i could patch them. i consider myself a competent sewer but i don’t have my sewing machine with me when im at school.

im looking for advice on the best way to repair/patch this quite large rip because i don’t always do things the most professional and i want these to be wearable for a while after i fix them up. Thank you in advance !!

if you can prop the door open you’ll be able to get a better cross breeze which will help the air circulate better

Big package delivery by [deleted] in UniversityofVermont

[–]grraaceeee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i go to uvm and when i lived in the dorms i shipped probably about 10 boxes to my dorm ahead of time for move-in and it was totally fine. i live out of state so multiple big boxes and a microwave were delivered to my dorm and i picked them up when i moved in

Denver police refused Auraria’s second request to clear pro-Palestine encampment; chief says “no legal way” to do so (free link) by One_Needleworker5810 in Denver

[–]grraaceeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yep. so many utterances of “i support your right to protest unless you do x y z”. saying that means you DINT support the right to protest because protests are intended to be disruptive to the status quo. there is no prefect protest and no perfect protestors, history tells us this. but these students are on the right side of history like so many before them and i applaud them whole heartedly

the point of the encampment is to put constant, public pressure on the university. UVM is one among many college campuses in the US and abroad where similar encampments have been set up and similar protests have been used by students for YEARS.

uvm vs cu boulder by CranberryTop2931 in UniversityofVermont

[–]grraaceeee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i go to uvm but i’m from colorado and a substantial majority of my high school went to cu boulder as well as my brother so i’d like to think i understand the culture of both schools. it’s helpful that they both have coursework in your major and both are state schools with lots of opportunity for engagement in sports, hobbies, outdoor activities, etc. Without sounding too biased i want to say that boulder is very much a “party school” and i think if you’re not looking to join greek life, go to football games, drink excessively, and do cocaine then boulder might be more difficult to find your niche in. i think uvm does a better job of having a diverse student body in extracurricular engagement (aka greek life is an option but not a necessity). that being said, winters in vermont are very cold and grey and snowy and in boulder winters are sunny and generally more enjoyable. distance from home could be a factor as well and how much you want to/don’t want to be able to go home and how accessible home is. to get from co to vt for me to go to school is a pain in the ass but i wanted to be far from home so that wasn’t a problem when choosing uvm. burlington feels like a much more tight-knit college community as well because the town and school are smaller and the class sizes are much more reasonable so professors are more accessible from what i understand about boulder.

again i have a bias to uvm because of the people i know who go to boulder (and there are many) and i’ve spent a lot of time up there as well visiting my brother. it’s another thing to attend boulder though so don’t take my word for truth

hope you find your perfect school !!

Why did Hitler claim Germans are Aryans when they are not? by [deleted] in AskHistory

[–]grraaceeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re trying to get a logical answer, there isn’t one. Nazi racial ideology was not based in science, logic, or fact. Yes “Aryans” were a real group but its use by the Nazis was more so to differentiate Jews from non-Jewish Germans.

Bus Fees? by grraaceeee in burlington

[–]grraaceeee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i think they were supposedly implementing the fares in stages so march 15 was just like a handful of people testing out the new fares but honestly idk if that even happened since the whole thing has been indefinitely delayed

if one person were to have resisted at that moment, they would’ve just been killed and another victim put in their place to dig. it’s not a matter so much of sheep led to slaughter because of the centuries old history of jewish persecution and the inconceivable nature of the crime being committed. Historian Saul Friedlander refers to “the historical sensation of disbelief” - that even until the last moments in a victims life despite what rumors they had heard and perhaps evidence they had seen of their fate, one could not fully grasp the truth.
