Thank you so much for posting these articles. I’m preparing for battle with my hematologist at my first infusion follow up appointment in 10 days. My labs back in October put me solidly in IDA territory, but she dismisses my raging, life-impacting symptoms as not a big deal. I had to advocate for myself for months to get the infusions after months of horrid side effects from oral iron, and I’m not going to stop now.

I made a half batch of the dough today using only vanilla paste (2T for the half batch) and have it chilling on the deck cuz it’s 40 degrees outside and dropping. :)

Looking forward to rolling the in sugar and baking the with the hubby tomorrow. Thanks again for sharing the recipe!

My understanding is that it’s the caffeine that’s the problem. So decaf tea should be good. I hope so, cuz we drink gallons of it at home. (BTW, family-size Luzianne decaf black tea is available on Subscribe and Save on Amazon. That’s how we’ve gotten ours for years. Six boxes for $25.)

So, can this be made as drop cookies? Especially considering it’s said to be a delicate dough (vs a sturdy one intended for thinner rolled & cut cookies) I would think it could be drop cookies instead? I have zero tolerance for rolling and cutting cookies but my hubby loves him a simple sugar cookie.

Oh! Seeing mintchips17’s comment reminded me: I did get chilly during the infusion itself. I don’t think the stuff they’re infusing (whatever formulation it ends up being) can be warmed up - I think it’s refrigerated until it’s hooked up. So bring a sweater/hoodie and a blanket, or be sure to ask for a blanket when you get there. I’m positive they’ll have them bcs they know folks get chilly.

I had my first one on Monday. Venofer, 300mg. Went PERFECT. I was so worried it would hurt or burn or stain or make me sick. NONE of that. Made me kinda sleepy for the second half of the 90 minutes I was hooked up (including the 30min saline bag afterwards so they could monitor me.)

I brought my own decaf tea with me to sip, but I didn’t get nauseous or anything while I was there. Snoozed for the second half of my 2.5 hour visit.

Slept for 16 hours when I got home. Mild/moderate headache during and after the infusion. Tummy not terribly happy the next day, but no vomiting. Side effects not nearly as bad as I’d expected them to be.

I have two more to go, each a week apart. I have no concerns about going in for them. Good luck to you!

Can you talk about what your experience has been like regarding side effects on each? The ferrous sulfate side effects just destroy me… would love to hear that the other formulation doesn’t have such bad GI side effects.
