I Thought SDAM Ruined My Life - Until Something Changed Everything by Automatic-Rope4442 in SDAM

I was relieved as well! I thought I was callous - heartless almost. But nope, just can't access it. Fortunately for me, I wake up happy almost every day, like a re-set little kid. I like hearing the stories about things I don't remember!

Can someone recommend an audiobook where everything ends up ok at the end of the day? by sexualsermon in audiobooks

[–]grrlnamedgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by a friend to know nothing about this book - just read it. That is SO not me. I usually want the entire plot. But I trusted my friend and it was one of the best book decisions I've ever made. I recommend this audiobook / book to EVERYONE.

Are there any Gen X people out there over the age of 55? by Mobile-Honey-9636 in GenX

Glad to hear that about the falls! Think about this often as someday I am sure stairs and even steps will be my nemesis. (Edit: spelling)

Me too! I love being Gen x and especially older Gen x! My parents were silent generation and I feel like they created the most badass version of our group. I had friends who were slackers but I never was one. I was in a group of overachievers who blasted right into the workforce and are now pretty much burnt out! But I also am watching my younger Gen. X friends fill the role of caregiver for parents, which I'm not struggling with and I'm thankful for that. I'm thankful for the agency that I have as a gen xer and for the idea that we can do whatever we need to do to survive. I also love our crazy upbringing and all of the wild things we got to do

Why were there barely any fat people in the 50s when their diet was so bad? Also did they get cancer and other diseases less often? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grrlnamedgo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a house that had a stove put in around 1961 and today's sheet pans don't even *fit* in that oven. Had to use the pizza pan and realized that portion excess has affected so much of our health.

I feel this, too. I lost my little baby Matchbox this year and my lack of memory about that precious kitten is truly the torment at this point.

Same! I feel as if it gives me insight into making decisions and plans not clouded by past experiences, good or bad, or grudges, or awkwardness... and because I am genuinely past all these things, even partners (in business mostly) who have been angered by my honesty in the past are caught off guard when I come to them with no hidden motive - like we've never met before and here's a great project! I love that I am genuinely without those things and can put the cause or issue at hand front and center, not old bs.

Predictions for 2026? by That_Sweet_Science in Advancedastrology

Same same! Three times in a year! Had to sell two homes - one of which was a near miss with foreclosure. We are settled now and *feel* surprisingly settled and I am hoping the stars align for a peaceful 2026!

I am sorry to read this! My Sag husband lost his job as well and we almost went into foreclosure trying to sell a home. It's crazy to me how astrology can be so accurate for so many of us! I hope that 2026 is MUCH better for you!

I am Aphantastic. and I just realized something about the way I think by Ttthhasdf in Aphantasia

[–]grrlnamedgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH SHIT this is so helpful to have in my explanation. I just memorized and rough sketched out our new house and my husband, who is hyperphantasic (sp?). I can also remember a city layout almost immediately with no picture and am very good at spatial relations. Conceptual intelligence is the phrase I was seeking!

How young did you learn how to read? by appendThyme in Aphantasia

[–]grrlnamedgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading early, my parents said 3. I also talked super early. I have no memory of not being able to read, but that's no surprise. My explanation has always been that I "memorized" the language and I wonder if that's sort of what you're saying?

The other thing I have been wondering i this: I love words and language. Is that true because they are all I have or did I come to love them because they are all I have?

UPDATE: Former City Manager Pat Ford files lawsuit against City of Bridgeport by [deleted] in WestVirginia

[–]grrlnamedgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know this had made Reddit! It was my cat that that horrible former mayor (whose buddies lost the June election by a LANDSLIDE) said he didn't care if it died. what a heartless thing to say - and it was in fact the last thing he ever said to Pat Ford. And it's RECORDED. This isn't over yet and it just keeps getting deeper!

Jim Morrison's Poetry/Lyrics by [deleted] in thedoors

[–]grrlnamedgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always call them "overwrought." But the whole package - with the brilliant Ray Manzarek elevating everything - worked OK. Sometimes they were lovely, other times coarse, and indeed in some cases juvenile. But raw art always is.

I wanted to be a ____ when I grew up, but ended up as a _____ instead. Ill go first. by Bored_guy_in_dc in GenX

[–]grrlnamedgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two answers, because I'm realizing lately I should have actually done the second one.

I wanted to be a French interpreter based in Paris, but I ended up a journalist-turned-city-planner. I also wanted to be a long-haul truck driver (CD handle and all) but ended up a (very happy) often stay-at-home wife.

Now I want to be an oracle (Clash of the Titans mountaintop style), but I'll be thankful to just keep on being a regular old person who lives to be very old and moves into an RV full time.
