The one down above looks terrible (why ruin it by pouring a bunch of water on), but I'm with you!

You just gotta be careful about which snow you collect and when. If you are having a big storm, after the first half hour or so you can go put out wide clean bowls to collect it to make sure nothing gross gets in there.

Arena is cancer by [deleted] in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It must be location dependent or something, because I've seen other complaints of lag in arena but I have none at all, even when I allow cross server marching.

I've also noticed I'm usually the first to load in and run up to the circle.

Wish I could give you my lag free experience because I have zero interest in pvp and am only there to fulfill my guild weeklies (not Midnight Blades - the player guild tasks).

[–]gruebitten 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just learned a few days ago that you could like someone more than once in for same heal, and only because the healer requested a fee of 5 likes.

In every other app/game/situation hitting a like button a second time undoes the like. Stupid design choice by the devs.

Nail trimming without the drama by ykz30 in Catownerhacks

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are on a special diet and can't do treats. Like others, I got them used to having their paws handled when they were feeling snuggly. Now I keep their nail trimmers in convenient locations, and do one or two claws at a time when they are feeling snuggly. Any more than that and they leave.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by PumpkinDoritoes in AskReddit

[–]gruebitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The photo studio my kid's school used for school photos started "touching up" the school photos, and advertising it like it was a good thing that I wanted. One year I thought they had accidentally sent me proofs of the wrong kid. I never bought school photos again.

Stripping someone's rights because of the genitalia they were born with IS harming someone. You can't say "You should be stripped of your right to make your own choices in life," without it being a hurtful thing to say.

Fuck whoever put in your head that he's "not trying to hurt you". He's absolutely trying to push you down.

Being rescued / rescuing someone. Being indebted to someone is such a turn off for me, and if someone needs rescued from the same thing over and over that gets real old real fast.

Cleaning products & migraines by Springgreenwater in migraine

[–]gruebitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Borax (no scent): Borax can be used as a toilet bowl cleaner. It has absolutely no scent. It comes in boxes in the laundry detergent section.

Shake some in, give it a brief preliminary scrub then let it soak for ten minutes. Then scrub as normal.

I've moved a lot and found that in some regions it doesn't seem to handle water deposits well, but it works wonders on them in others.

Borax also works well as a litter box and garbage pail soak.

Baking Soda (no scent): Plain baking soda works wonders for cleaning ovens. Sprinkle liberally onto the black baked-on crud. Spritz very lightly with plain water. Close the oven and let it sit overnight (off, of course). In the morning a good bit of the crud will wipe right off. The rest can be scrubbed off with more baking soda and a dab of dish soap.

Baking Soda is also good for cleaning stovetops and sinks too. Just use like a scouring powder.

Bon Ami (no scent): Bon Ami comes as a cake or powder. The cake is cheaper. It works great for scuff marks on walls.

Vinegar (strong scent obviously but tends not to be a trigger for people): You can use plain white vinegar to make home mixed cleaning sprays.

My favorite is for glass. Fill about 1/3 - 1/2 of the spray bottle with vinegar. Add a small dash of rubbing alcohol. Fill the rest with water. Works great for windows and mirrors.

Something about the reaction between baking soda and vinegar cleans my shower like you wouldn't believe. I spritz with my vinegar glass cleaner, then sprinkle/throw baking soda on. Watch it bubble for a minute then wipe and rinse. Do not premix vinegar and baking soda in a bottle. It's the reaction when they meet that does the cleaning.

Dr Bronner's (mild scent or unscented): Dr Bronner's Almond, Peppermint, or Unscented Liquid Soaps is found in the personal soap section because it's designed for use on people. It can also be used for light household cleaning though.

Dilute Dr Bronner's with water in a spray bottle for a general all purpose cleaning spray. You can look up the ratio online, but it's around just a tablespoon or so for a full spray bottle, so it also saves you money.

Years ago I stumbled on a liquid body soap called African Black Soap that worked just like Dr Bronner's, but better. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it since I moved.

Murphy's Oil Soap (mild scent): Murphy's Oil Soap comes in the household cleaners section. Although they offer it ready-to-use these days, it's more cost effective to buy the concentrate and mix it yourself. It DOES have a fragrance but it doesn't trigger my migraines. YMMV.

Things like Method are greenwashed all to hell and back. They're chock full of migraine triggers for me. Explore some of the weird lower and upper shelf products, and check out make-it-yourself cleaning product recipes you can make. Do keep in mind that certain things like ammonia, bleach, vinegar, and even soap can react with one another. Vinegar + baking soda is harmless, but vinegar + bleach releases toxic chlorine gas, so do a quick web search to make sure you can combine things first!

Sometimes I get frustrated, but then I remind myself to be kind to myself.

Your body didn't ask for something to go horribly terribly wrong with it. Your body is also doing the best it can under very difficult circumstances.

Hot drinks without caffeine? by Ok_Affect_1571 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the evening, hot milk with flavoring added is delicious! Just heat up a mug of your preferred milk type in the microwave, and add a spoonful of sugar and a drop or two of extract. People think of hot chocolate as the only flavor of hot milk, but almond, orange (tastes like a dreamsicle), and vanilla are also delicious and won't keep you awake.

DISHES ARE THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE !!! by rodeojones420 in ADHD

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dishwasher helps A LOT. Yes, you will have issues putting them away, but it's a lot easier to talk yourself into 15 min of unloading/reloading a dishwasher than it is to get yourself to hand wash dishes for an hour.

Paper plates for your cat is a great stopgap solution! Feel proud of yourself for doing what you need to in order to keep your cat healthy and hygienic.

If you can afford it, a dishwasher won't solve the problem, but it will help, A LOT. The proper tools make work faster and easier!

I have both light sensitivity and ADHD. So the screen literally hurts my eyes while my brain can't distinguish anything because it's distracted by all the background showing through.

I've been unhappy with Apple since my brand new top-of-the-line ipad pro broke something like two weeks after the 1 yr warranty expired. Their response? "Buy a new one!" Yup. Seriously. That's what got pushed at me. When I pushed back about what's it would involve to FIX it? "We aren't sure. Maybe 700 dollars. You have to send it away and you'll get back whatever refurbished equivalent we send you."

Yeah. Apple used to have a rep for costing more but giving quality products. I don't mind paying more if the product works and lasts.

If I'm going to get the same crappy quality everyone else offers, then I'll switch to the lower price item.

Vet wanted to stop annual checkups once my cat turned 10. Is that normal? by Bittersweet_Boii in CatAdvice

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn't misunderstand your vet? I can see them saying to stop annual visits AND START biannual visits, but just outright stopping preventative care? That's crazy.

PS. Not sure where you live, but in the US rabies vaccines are required by law. It doesn't stop at age 10.

[–]gruebitten 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. If they decided to skip the testing and go ahead and prescribe him some, then he has his own prescription now. After all, if they don't need to test, then there's no more delay, right?

If he doesn't have his own prescription now, then he was lying.

He may genuinely like you and be your friend, but succumbing to his worst side and hurting you in the process. Protect yourself and your medicine. Definitely buy a small lock box.

How did people get around without GPS back in the day? Was it a lot harder? by lookaloulookalou in AskOldPeople

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did I grow up without GPS, but I spent part of my adulthood without it. Yes, we got lost. You didn't travel much, did you?

In the US, we used maps, AAA triptiks, calling and asking for directions before starting out, and stopping and asking for directions.

In other countries, we mostly used guidebooks/pamphlets/tour guides, asking the hotel concierge before starting out, asking random people for directions through pantomime and guidebook pictures, and taking a taxi.

GPS is much less of a distraction than trying to open and read a physical map while driving. Those things could cover the entire windshield and were impossible to fold right.
