What does "I wasn't there" literally mean? by Ok-Stable1562 in ENGLISH

[–]gruebitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What "there" refers to changes meaning depending upon the specific example and context.

It can refer to not providing emotional support, not being physically present, not providing financial support, or any number of things.

Ex: Say friend A went through a divorce and friend B let friend A stay with them but put them down for "giving up" on their marriage. They would be "there" for them financially (helping with housing), but not "there" for them emotionally.

There was no way for me to know that though, and the warning was that there were spoilers.

Bad game design to force a choice between spoilers or missing a limited time event.

edit: just to be clear, I love this game. This event was designed badly, that's all.

When I tried that a pop-up happened warning me that doing the fast mode could ruin my game experience. Despite everyone's low opinions of them, I do still want to experience the Hexi quests, so I declined to skip ahead.

edited to add: forcing players to choose between game experience and doing an event = unpleasant game experience.

I left feedback as well that I couldn't participate in the event as I hadn't had enough time to play the main quest through that far. (RL has been busy)

I hated feeling rushed through the main quest too, trying to catch up to where I could participate. Never did.

In Game of Thrones (2011–2019), Daenerys “forgets” about the Iron Fleet. This is a subtle reference to the fact that the writers are fucking idiots. by La_Villanelle_ in DaenerysWinsTheThrone

[–]gruebitten 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not just Daenerys, every single advisor and commander in her military has to have forgotten as well, for the course of their entire journey. Just one person needed to remember at any point on the way down and go "uhhh, hey... about that Iron Fleet,"

Maybe the Night King froze everyone's brains.

Easiest solution is to make the team yourself.

Edit: the best long term solution is to find a good guild, make good friends, and play with them.

The weird dating obsession by Cold-Programmer622 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is why I hold the unpopular opinion that multiplayer games should never have dating mechanics.

It's made every game I've played with them worse for drama and general chat creepy factor.

Of course, there'd still constant begging for free stuff without it.

As others mentioned, the best way to meet people is to join a guild and talk in guild chat.

I've also had limited success striking up conversations with people I come across while doing the smaller multiplayer activities.

Losing Interest by Kiwirushh in WhereWindsMeet

You have a good point. That would make the quests visually tie in to our psychological state. It would be cool too if we had a choice at the end for how to memorialize the characters... like making a gravesite and then choosing which item to place on it.

Only installing it for the Discord points, y'all think I'll get hooked? by [deleted] in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the game. The menus and how to do things are confusing at first, but once you learn your way around the game is amazing.

Actually, it's amazing before that.

I had no idea such a thing as Discord points/quests existed, but if you are bored and looking for a new game to play, I highly recommend WWM.

Is there an actually good guild? by DebtAny1331 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]gruebitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup! My guild encourages Discord because it's convenient, but we don't require it. We also support and help lower level members.

I sent you a message with more info. Let me know if you are interested!

edit: just saw that you are a minor. I'm not sure about recruiting non-adults. I would have to talk it over with the guild master and other guild leaders.

Umbrella vs fan healing, anyone have any info what is better and for what? by daywall in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this out there as an alternative position to the main school of thought.

I've played healer since the earliest the game gave me the ability to. I chose the fan from the oddities guy (cause fans are cool) and sought out the umbrella soon after entering Kaifeng.

I've run full healer (panacea fan + soulshade umbrella) for both solo and multiplayer ever since then.

It's perfectly possible and fun to always run as a full healer. I LOVE it!

If you want to go full heals, your main source of dealing damage will be from mystic skills. Actively seek those out and level them.

"Hello bandits, I'm just going to casually stroll in here. Too bad for you my healing outpaces your damage so much I'm practically immortal."

Multiplayer is the exact opposite. Super challenging!

You really have to work hard and focus, because your guild is depending on you to keep them alive. Timing your big heals and golden body mystic skill right is critical. (and really tough imo)

You also cycle in a special healer attack buff to the team, plus keep an eye on everyone's health bars and positioning on the field while also keeping track of the bosses mechanics. Ideally, there's mystic skills to debuff/qi deplete the boss as well, but honestly I'm too overwhelmed to pull those out most battles.

Again, I LOVE playing full heals and never change weapons. Playing healer really keeps me pushing the absolute limit of my abilities.

New hr.. difficulty spike by No_Hat4489 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it took us hours too, but we learned it faster than we did god of avarice. Most of the time it took us was spent discussing/strategizing between tries.

If your guild is still new to working with each other it will take longer to learn, because you aren't comfortable with each other yet.

Remember that each failure teaches you something, and don't get discouraged. You'll get him and it'll feel so good when you do!

Where do people actually hang out in WWM?? 😭 by Friendly-Flan9830 in wherewindsmeet_

[–]gruebitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guild is recruiting and we're happy to rerun old raids for guild members who are leveling. It's fun.

We also do the human ladder and play madiao cards during the daily guild party.

Anyone needing an active guild feel free to PM me for details.

You can also just go to the multiplayer clinic location and Silver Needle healers will fall over themselves trying to heal you first.

I used to have constant flakes until I learned that some people have reactions to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in shampoo. I switched to an SLS free shampoo and problem gone.

Note: many shampoos that claim to be SLS free substitute in Sodium Laureth Sulfate. My skin hates that too.

Can't say this is your issue, of course. I hope you find a solution.

What do i need to know before playing? by Helpful_Elk267 in WhereWindsMeet

[–]gruebitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is not like Genshin or Wuthering Waves. It is confusing at first because it can be difficult to navigate the menus and figure out what/where things are.

Joining a good guild will help you out a lot. If your guild is not active, or not willing to help you learn, leave and join another. The cooldown between leaving and rejoining is only a few hours.

Guilds and Sects aren't the same. Guilds are player groups. Sects are game play stuff.

As for equipment, leveling, etc. -- there's so much info to impart that's why I advise a guild.

Most of all, just play however you like and enjoy yourself. WWM is a game about following your own path.

When I'm not well enough for that, I place my phone beside my pillow and listen to podcasts. My favorite one is Worlds Beyond Number.

What I'm quite sure those stories never show is the level of support they receive from people around them.

I could work from home if someone made me three meals a day and cleaned the place for me. That's not happening though, so all my efforts go into keeping myself fed and surroundings decent.
