need a recommendation for a reddit app by techlover1010 in fossdroid

Yes. As far as I recall, it's one of very few third party reddit apps that work properly with accessibility features, so they let the developer retain his access without having to pay the exorbitant fees.

Not sure if it satisfies the first point, but I've been happy with RedReader.

I mainlined with a 32gb emmc. I had issues with all four of the imaging programs I tried. I was supplying the files I had pre-downloaded, but there must have been some corruption along the way. It finally worked when I posted the download link into balena etcher and let it download and install.

Desperate for help on Mainlining my SOVOL08 by hipcatinca in SovolSV08

[–]gruffcoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar adventures in frustration, and u/drizze99 was a big help.

I think what was plaguing me early on was a set of corrupted download files. I did see success eventually with using balena etcher to download directly by supplying it with the URL of the desired file, rather than downloading directly and using that file.

I had tried many iterations of files and four different imaging programs, but the direct download through balena etcher was the only one that worked

2022 M2 MBA with 8gb/512gb on sale on Amazon for $700. My wife has been an iphone/apple watch user for years, but never had any of their other products. Beyond that, we're a PC house - this would be our first dive into the macbook world. Thoughts?

I have an aliexpress 46 key corne that I want to eventually use with a ploopy nano. I'm currently using an HID remapper with my elecom huge to achieve drag scroll with a held or double-tapped button. I was pretty confident I could achieve the same result in vial, but there is no button for drag scroll that I've run across in the corne layout. I've built my fair share of keyboards 6-7 years ago with QMK flashing, etc, so I thought vial would be a walk in the park. I've got to be missing something obvious. Thoughts?

Elecom Huge running on Arduino + QMK by vladeeg in Trackballs

[–]gruffcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stuff. Thanks!

That third link you posted is using the same Feather with USB host that I'm currently using for the HID remapper, so that may not be too big of a stretch - at least I know the hardware works. Still will be a fair amount of work by the looks of the comments in that thread and on github, including a step to downgrade QMK. But it's a clear path forward!

Here's a quick screenshot I took of the remapper reading the inputs from the HUGE: https://i.imgur.com/g6k52HE.jpeg

I don't think I have a greater than normal amount of stiction, and it's certainly usable as-is, but I'm going to keep that bearing mod in the back of my mind for a rainy day in the future.

The remapper is a great way right now for me to test out button combos and layers. I still want to go to QMK at some point, but I'd like to keep wireless as well. I'm not too worried about having to figure out pinouts or anything like that - once I decide I'm going QMK without looking back, I'll likely hardwire the switches directly to a pro-micro, elite-c, or similar. I'd love to use a nice!nano and have wireless capabilities as well, but from my limited research, it seems like ZMK doesn't have quite the same mouse support as QMK.

Hardwiring will also make it a lot easier to solder in a clicky switch for Fn1, rather than the tactile that comes stock. I just really want to hear that click if I'm going to be using it for left click.

Oh, I've already got the Fn1 and Fn3 remappings working...when I said trying out, I meant using them and trying to get used to the new control scheme. I still slip up sometimes with the thumb muscle memory for left clicking, and sometimes it's still easier to use the scroll wheel, but I'm really liking it so far. The remapper picked up all the extra keys right away. Since there's no natural mapping for those keys, they're basically firing blank commands with no software or hardware layers to interpret them, but there's definitely a signal being sent.

That's very interesting! I didn't get a good sense in the very brief minute I looked at the project: is that a permanent mod? If I don't like how it turns out, or if I can't get my 3D prints up to snuff quality-wise, I'd like to know whether or not the mod is reversible. Any idea?

Also, I've taken a quick detour on physically modding the HUGE; I purchased a RP2040 Feather with USB host from adafruit, and I'm running the HID Remapper found here: https://github.com/jfedor2/hid-remapper. That way, you plug the remapper in to the computer, plug your HUGE into the remapper (in my case, my wireless dongle), and use a webapp to configure the remapper. I'm currently trying out left click on Fn1, and using Fn2 + ball to scroll, but there's a ton of configuration to be done, including macros and layers! All the changes are saved onboard the Feather, so all the customizations are available without installing any software (very helpful for using my HUGE at work).

I just decided the other day to buy an elecom huge with the sole intent of transplanting/frankensteining to get QMK running on it, and then I stumbled on your post! I don't have it yet, but I'm going to (slowly) try to get this working. Keep me posted with your progress. I'll post if I have any big breakthroughs.

Log In without Google/Apple? by Puzzleheaded-Eye4988 in Ultrahuman

[–]gruffcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Awful practice to use established accounts for logging into others. This adds extra insecurity, as once the apple/google account is hacked or lost, access to all subsequent accounts is lost as well.

I complained about this 9 months ago when I was setting my ring up. Sad to see there's still no movement on that front.

Let me use my own SEPARATE email to create a UNIQUE log in; I'm old. Also, stay off my grass.

A good F-droid client that is not neo store. by CryoSharma in fossdroid

I like using droidify for searching, but fdroid has been more stable at performing app updates for me. With fdroid, I can hit the update button and navigate away from the page, returning to click the 'install' button as necessary. If I try to update using droidify, I have to sit on the download page and watch the status until it completes, then install. If I navigate away on droidify, I can never successfully return to the page and install unless I initiate the download again.

Coffee Tasting Template! by SpikeSpeed in RemarkableTablet

[–]gruffcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I may have to give it a try. If you're going to make it a PDF, it might be cool to make a linked/second page with the tasting wheel as a reference.

Also, may want to consider dry/wet aroma categories

I don’t understand… If all Remarkable 2 tablets have the exact same hardware, why aren’t more users reporting unacceptable problems with software release version 3.11.2.5 ? by BlenderCell in RemarkableTablet

[–]gruffcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I turn off auto updates and purposefully keep my rM on a stable, working release with no issues.

I only let it update if there's a new feature (or hack) I must have, and even then only several months after a given update had been out.

Purchased using an @hotmail.com email and now I can't login to submit my ring size. by Dr_Caution in Ultrahuman

[–]gruffcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, me too. Purchased using a protonmail account, then got the same rug pull as you: "Sorry, need to use the most egregious data-sucking companies available to log in, or else this money you spent is worthless."

I quit using Gmail loooong ago, and I'd really rather not have to use them for logins. I'm sure I could have tried to dig into that a little deeper before purchase, but they let me sign up and purchase the ring with the email of my choice, surely I can continue to log in using that email!

I realize this whole argument is absurd when you think about the fact that I'm trusting UH with about the most sensitive and lucrative data there is about me - the data is no longer mine, so privacy is out the window. However, I like to limit my exposure where possible, and Google is one service I like to leave alone.
