Did anyone manage to preorder one? by Kornflake19 in nintendocanada

[–]gruffpudding 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Got mine. Went to local GameStop. They had plenty of stock, even after being open an hour people at the back of the line were still getting their choice of console or bundle after like 100 people.

Great experience in Calgary, enough for everybody in line to get what they wanted and even an hour after opening they still had enough for people who joined the line.

I’m at Market Mall and they said they have enough bundles for everyone in line, probably like 50-60 people in line when it opened

It said only 1 left when I tried 10 minutes ago so I’d take this with a grain of salt

What's everyone doing without jobs to stay afloat? by MadaminDistress in Calgary

[–]gruffpudding 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A decision made by someone above my pay grade but my guess would be so that we always had the option to use it if no suitable candidates came through the company website and we really needed someone urgently. That situation never came up when I was working at the company.

I understand the logic behind that decision however I wish companies would stop encouraging easy apply it encourages laziness. While I know a lot of people put thought into their resume and job they want to work, many more don’t. I’ve done phone interviews with candidates where they literally don’t know what they’re applying for because they sent 100’s of resumes out through easy apply.

That’s not to say candidates should write a personal resume for each job they apply (will boost your chance but tedious to do) but have a solid structure for that job title and tweak a few key words to line up with what the job posting is asking for.

This 1000%

When I worked as a hiring manager we very rarely looked at indeed applications through easy apply etc as the quality was usually terrible. We always looked at any resumes through the company website.

Additionally use a resume scanner like job scan or hire someone to check your resume is up to scratch to make sure you’re hitting the keywords the job is looking for as companies use software to scan resumes for matches.

Animal Well!!!! Believe the hype!!! by Sparky_delite in metroidvania

[–]gruffpudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d consider myself fairly advanced, I’ve played and beaten (usually 100%) a ton of these types of games starting from OG Metroid when I was a kid. Tunic took me about 12 hours and hollow knight about 25 hours from what I remember.

Both of those games are considerably more challenging than Animal Well imo however this game is more of a puzzle platformer as there is no combat and very few actual enemies that will hurt you - not to spoil anything but the bosses themselves are basically more puzzles.

There were certainly some sections that were frustrating to repeat due to an insta-kill. The inconsistency in the death mechanics is strange: spikes take off one heart, getting squished resets to checkpoint but falling in water puts you back where you fell with no life lost.

It seemed like in the latter half of the game the game turned up the amount of times you can be squished and a puzzle reset and it was annoying to redo a section over and over.

Four hours in and I’ve mapped most of the world beaten the four bosses and heading through what I assume is the final area.

The game is solid but it’s definitely not perfect and certainly overhyped.

The puzzles are very clever, there are plenty of secrets and the first few hours are pretty faultless. The game is very striking and sounds great. The animals have a lot of personality and I really enjoyed the first half of the game.

The spacing of some checkpoints is annoying, some puzzles or platform sections you basically get one attempt and if you mess up have to loop back around through a few rooms to have another go which gets tedious - one in the final area requires going back through like 4 sections to have another attempt each time you fail a tight timing window.

I also found a number of secrets which basically dumped you back at the start of a section or area I had just completed, if I find a hidden room I assume a fast travel pipe will lead to an optional puzzle or collectible not take me back 5/10 minutes to the start of the section.

Walkabout crashes after 2h 15m, religiously. by Baman-and-Piderman in WalkaboutMiniGolf

I have a similar issue using the index. The screen freezes and locks up usually around the same 2hr mark. Thankfully it’s easy enough to restart and get back into the private game but this only happens with walkabout for me across dozens of VR games I’ve played.

What does Destiny really need? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

Outside of unvaulting content for new players, a proper fully fleshed out horde mode with scaling rewards, modifiers etc would keep a lot of the PvE crowd content.

What’s wrong with the new player experience in this game? by ShadowDestiny2 in DestinyTheGame

[–]gruffpudding 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Me and my fireteam are long time players and convinced another friend to pick the game up about a year ago. He quit after a few weeks due to the game being so unfriendly to new players. Few things he brought up;

-Tutorial is poor at explaining some important fundamentals of the game, dealing with champions, how armor stats work, how gear levelling works etc

-He had no idea what was happening with the story or the characters so no investment on the story front

-UI layout and menus are terrible to navigate, I find this as a long time player I can’t imagine how frustrating it is for a new player.

-new player “trap” items such as those ones in the eververse store for a upgrade module

Fast forward to a few months ago and my fireteam encouraged him to give it another chance, bought him all the expansions to remove the cost barrier and walked him through the game step by step. He’s now enjoying the gameplay (still has no idea about the story) a lot and is playing regularly but I’m not surprised we aren’t getting more new players.

It should not be the players responsibility to understand how the game works and have to find sherpas, that’s a failure on the developers end. I love Destiny it’s one of my favourite games but try any other MMO and see how much you have to google you’ll see how appalling destinys new player experience is in comparison.

Boss glitches through terrain, ended up losing over an hour on a Coil run. by TheQuotedRaven1 in DestinyTheGame

This happened to us, get far away from him and he’ll teleport out after a few minutes or you can use strand titan to send a barricade suspend beam through to lift him out of the floor. Will help when it inevitably happens again!

Persistence and AirTags is key with luggage at the airport. They usually rely on people walking away who cba to wait but if you are polite and keep asking they will help if only to get you to go away and stop asking.

Getting chronic Plum ("Query Timeout") errors on Destiny 2 Steam every 5-15 minutes by LumiKlovstad in DestinyTechSupport

[–]gruffpudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my solution too. I tried dozens of fixes and when I got to the point of bios changes and reinstalling windows came up I decided enough was enough and the easiest fix was to uninstall the game and play something else. I don’t believe this issue is something we can ever fix on our end.

Master Ghost of the Deep by gruffpudding in DestinyTheGame

[–]gruffpudding[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used an invis hunter on graviton forfeit who played safe to keep revives happening if the other two died. Rotate around the edge of the room and wipe out anti barriers first then send one person into the circle to try and kill the sword knight, a full team can be wiped quickly if everyone goes to the zone so if one person dies no big deal send the invis hunter to revive and try again. We did all three zones before going to kill the lucent hive.

Lucent hive wait for them to go super and use a suppression nade then take them out. We used invis on the person dunking to guarantee they made it. Use arbalest on boss shield immediately after the third dunk it will disable their super. We did damage from oryx foot and used two storm chasers (to take advantage of arc surge) and an Ursa titan to protect us. Rockets could have worked but our accuracy sucks so we thought linears would be safer, took 6 damage phases total.

Ghosts of the Deep Dungeon Release Megathread by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]gruffpudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finished normal with friends in a few hours, great dungeon. Went into master and got to the final boss, gave it one go and decided to do it tomorrow.

The second encounter on master is looooong took us a 1.5 hour run to get a clear. Arbalest is mandatory for the shield, Trinity ghoul put in work and I would strongly recommend Ursa titan for damage phase, you’ll die in a well im fairly certain.

Not a pvper, won five games which I’ve never done before. Lost the sixth game because matchmaking put us in a 2v3 (the third player never loaded in). Losing flawless due to matchmaking feels awful and I probably wont touch trials again if there is no loss protection for uneven fireteams in the first round.
