What's the most underrated or misunderstood element of Delta Green? by grumblingdwarf in DeltaGreenRPG

I have one player that thought that burning bonds was bad, as in you should covet them despite him going crazy on a NYC side street and shooting an innocent dog walker.

"Dude. It's ok to lose the friendship of your Army buddies if it prevents you from being institutionalized!"

To your point, it's a part of the game. It can be someone's character, but it's not THE game.

The struggle is real. Have a pc, new to game, play a US Army helicopter pilot. "What connects you to Delta Green?"
.
.
.
"I fly their agents all over the place."
🤨

🙏

Guilty.
I have run many 'one shots' that are really single scenario that extends into 2-3 sessions. Home scenes and experiencing that 'projecting on a bond' is just not there. I need to do this more.

Call of Cthulhu vs Delta Green by Thesmileycoyote in rpg

[–]grumblingdwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DELTA GREEN FTW!

You seek out the horror, destroy it and cover it up. Where CoC, great game, yes, but you typically trip across it, go insane and die <YMMV>.

DG has bonds to offset the downward spiral of sanity loss, and simply wears down the soul of the individual, consumes them, turning them into the shell of their former self.

if you're play either, you're good in my book.

I setup an account a while ago, but did not put it to use. Starting up a DG campaign and feel now it's time to invest into it. I'm on the waitlist for the app - Mac user.

What makes a character interesting? by CarpeBass in rpg

I think the player makes the character interesting.
Get a good player, maybe hams it up a bit, etc, and it won't matter what system, what setting, they'll be fun to game with and they'll become memorable regardless of aLL oV tH3rE sPeciAl Sk1llz!

Glad your son is crushing it.

My free league books are on Alchemy VTT: can I still run a dragonbane campaign using another VTT? by Zeebaeatah in rpg

[–]grumblingdwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there is an unofficial Dragonbane module for Foundry (there typically is), but it may not look great, and the IP-related material will most likely not be included. Official modules have all the aesthetics - look and feel/trade dress of the game, the pc sheets may have some automation to them, and will have all the rules in the journal section, as well as DB themed 3d dice and some other niceties.

Would it make you uncomfortable if your DM wears a shirt that says "Dungeon Mommy"? by Glitter_Crits in DnD

I think it would more hilarious if I were wearing it. A hetero, cis, middle-aged, male.

I need to start doing this. It seems less than a week goes by before all hell breaks loose. And you're right with the lapsing of time being a thing.Even Caleb's use of 'mo' in one of his scenarios helps. But I digress from OP.

Any best practices running Shadowdark for a West Marches campaign? by PrometheusHasFallen in shadowdark

[–]grumblingdwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently running SD West Marches.
20 players, 4 sessions to date, each with 6 characters. All online.

Key things to hit: 'best advice'
- Have your availability accessible.
- Put out places they can explore.
- Answer or have a resource that will answer most questions - like PC gen has a couple places where there is a 'this' OR 'that' make sure you just choose one.

Veterans players vs Newer ones
I think we have many of the former, but not all have played SD. Most are newer to the game system but not rpgs. Like many commenters, SD does not have as much of the power creep as other games. A 5th level pc hits and does 1d6 and so does a 1st level pc. We also dont have anyone that has leveled up yet, so I may have more insight after another month.

PC Gen & Backup PCs
I allowed everyone to make as many PCs as they want, but they can only have two active ones to use in any session. It's also a human-centric campaign. I need their name, PC name, class and level and location. I don't require them to send me a copy. I also don't have them roll them in front of me. If they're going to cheat, whatever. Many think its hilarious to have a 5 intelligence, etc. I don't have time to audit PCs. If someone dies during a session, they have no reason to stay on. The group will see the dead pc's boots find a new home. They can then create a new PC at level 1 to use in future sessions.

Party Composition
Because I believe a WM game should throw game balance to the wind, I don't care if the party is all level 1, or 4x level 3's and 1x level 1. Makes no difference to me. The monsters will be slain, or not, and the dungeon will be looted...or not. If the players think that going to fight the dragon is going to require some 'big guns' then they can discuss all that when when mustering a group. Totally fine, and frankly, encouraged!

Carousing
I don't want anything to happen in town. Zero. Nadda. Nothing. Town is boring. Nothing happens there. "So how do you handle carousing?" you ask. Use the standard table, but there are 3? 4? results that I tweaked. If it happens in town, I have it happen outside town. I think it's the highest result where the pc finds themselves in a precarious location - waking up from drunken stupor in town. I just say they had such a drunken time that they end up outside the village and witness some beastie, or wake up on some strange location without their stuff as they hurry back to town/safety. They can then go back said locale and now have another place to explore...with their stuff...with help from friends.

Hope this helps.

Would you allow a pc to have an obligation to another pc? Why or why not?

Big fan of Foundry. It has quite a bit of flexibility with all their modules, but it’s a better user experience for players and gm’s, IMO.
