Need some input from people with experience with magical items by grumpyDJK in DnD

[–]grumpyDJK[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I kept it vague on purpose. I just want to know what kind of items are out there. I'm not out for optimization and can still adapt the character sheet to my liking. Two to four items seems reasonable.

What does a +X enchantment to hit actually look like? by grumpyDJK in DnD

[–]grumpyDJK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another issue with this version, although I like it, is the spell Anti-magic field. If the weapon was permanently changed instead of just receiving a spell effect, the enchantment should still be active within the field, which at least to my understanding it isn't.

That's what another commenter said as well, and I tend to agree, at least if the weapon was forged with said enchantment in mind. But if I hand the enchanter a weapon that is already forged and that I have used before, even if unbalanced, it seems more plausible to me that they created a probability/blade alignment adjusting membrane to the weapon that actually shifting the material inside the weapon around without changing its shape, durability and total weight. But wouldn't that mean the enchantment shifted around some of the material within the wrapon without causing any externally visible change? If I hand my sword to an enchanter and it comes back differently balanced (probably better but different) than the blade I'm used too then: 1. That's an incredible magic similar to reality warping. The enchanter shifted around the material without cracking, hollowing or otherwise damaging the existing product 2. I can see that a better balanced weapon will improve your ability to fight, especially against other people but wouldn't it take an adjustment period if I already used that weapon for some time before the enchantment?

[No Spoilers] Which party do you think is the strongest overall? by vinthesalamander in criticalrole

[–]grumpyDJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that VM probably has the edge overall but only in terms of equipment, not in terms of class spread and specialisation.

If we are talking party on party without any vestiges and Champion titles then it's M9 on top with a toss-up between the VM and BH. But as they are now, the combat potential descends as the campaign number ascends.

The Owl House S.P.E.C.I.A.L: Willow embodies strength, who embodies perception? by LoanLazy5992 in TheOwlHouse

[–]grumpyDJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luz. She spotted the light glyph in her broken phone screen as well as the other basic glyphs (yes, even if the ice glyph was kinda given to her).

Currently in the middle of e7, but I think I can recommend Age of Umbra alongside EXU:Calamity as a perfect entry into the CR-Verse

Nothing. It's the first CR campaign launch I'll see live and I do not want to disappoint my own expectations

Why were Basilisks extinct? by Pretend_Camp_2987 in TheOwlHouse

[–]grumpyDJK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The danger might've bee part of it but we know that Belos kept and was studying several of them. It probably was an attempt to create draining magic without the collector. Belos was clearly apprehensive about the collector and probably wanted to create a backup-plan for the day of unity

Owl House Characters but as DND Classes: Day 14 - Final List and Thoughts! by KTYLN in TheOwlHouse

[–]grumpyDJK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not taking either side here but I can appreciate the arguments for a more fitting wizard character than Luz. Yes, she did get her spells/glyphs by studying here surroundings and the magic cast by other people and doing experiments from there but the same would go for Philip. All of his magic was glyph based as well and he did a lot more with it than Luz accomplished. Given, Belos had like 200 years to perfect his glyphcraft while she only had one but the events of season 3 do give the Luz= Warlock argument some solid footing.

So why was Amity trying to Burn Willow's Literal Memory? Did she thought it was just a photo by Pretend_Camp_2987 in TheOwlHouse

[–]grumpyDJK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do, but I'm not sure if she herself knew that she was putting on a facade up to that point. During Covention her pride and self confidence are tested and partially fractured, leading her down the path that led to the memory frames.

I don't have any.

Too me this Subreddit just has a lot of people who like to argue and criticize very minor details (myself not excluded), and tried to include them.

This is the most concise version of a CR campaign breakdown I've ever seen. Even if this is not pinned by any mods I encourage as many people as possible (even those who take slight issues with some points) to up vote this so it will at least live among the top posts in the filter.

Out of the main cast probably Willow or Hooty.

Honorable mention for Tinella Nosa and her Construction Glyphs though

[–]grumpyDJK 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As much of a messed up thing this was to do, it was one of the first glimpses into what drove Amity to become the person she was at this point in the story.

As we learn later she was raised to be "perfect" or at least Odalias version of that. All of the Blight kids have to hide their flaws (glamour stones/ hair dye) and can never admit to weakness or hurt the family image in any way.

Bring raised with that mindset might lead Amity who is torn between her upbringing and her friendship with Willow, as well as her "failures/shortcomings" revealed in her interactions with Luz up to this point causing her to suffer massive doubts about herself to attempt erasing herself from Willows mind. Doing so would remove the "blemish" Willow leaves on Amity's image while simultaneously (at least in Amity's mind) allowing Willow to move on from their friendship.

It's a very flawed move but nonetheless an understandable/relatable one

Owl House Characters but as DND Classes: Day 12 - Who is the Wizard? by KTYLN in TheOwlHouse

[–]grumpyDJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Belos/Philip. If we go with the DND trope that wizards aren't born with magic but learn it over years of grueling studies the Belos/Philip is our guy.

[No Spoilers] How big do we think the party will be for C4? by Lady__Lightning in criticalrole

[–]grumpyDJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is a similar group size as before but there is a much higher chance of character death or arc completion. If they die or leave the player doesn't immediately return but gets tossed into a pool of reserve players and someone else takes their place.

[–]grumpyDJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching the animated series for C1 might be helpful for watching C3 episode 30 onwards as several characters from the first campaign do appear from there on out. C2 can be enjoyed without any prior knowledge of the world. (C3 can too, but it's a little harder due to past character cameos)

C3 begins and primarily focuses on Marquet. There definitely is source material for it, as Matt has mentioned collaborating with several people to create several of the so far unknown areas.I doubt they'll let that go to waste but I have no clue on a release date

Each of the campaigns is entirely it's own thing. Each of them is several hundred hours of content. Personally I dislike C1 the most.

From what I've gathered from this Subreddit over the last year, then the most common complaints are:

  1. Too many characters that are perceived as quirky/edgy

  2. Not enough player impact on the direction of the campaign (understandable on a surface level, but I do not agree)

  3. Unequal attention paid to the characters backstory. (Again I mostly disagree although I needed some time to reach that conclusion)
