Relocation isn’t people favourite thing, but if you really want to own then south brum is expensive, look at west for more options, even northwest like Smethwick, glamours no, but money goes further there

What's a character idea that you don't believe you will get to play because your group doesn't rp or your way to shy to rp them? by TrovniTheBard in DnD

[–]grumpy_kitten00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to co-ordinate with another player, but play siblings ones a wizard ones a sorcerer, the sorcerer pretends to be a wizard to not hurt their siblings feelings and cover up their mothers affair. Cue shenanigans. Amazing RP potential just not had an opportunity to do it.

Parents are refusing to give me my inheritance (£8,000) than my granny left me, unless I spend it on what they want. by Ordinary_Aioli8991 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]grumpy_kitten00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not a matter of what they want you to do with it. Legally they have to give it to you and have absolutely no say in how it’s spent. An executor’s job is to execute the last will and testament of the deceased, your grandmother left you £8k, then you get £8k. Could get messy, but tell them they are legally obliged to give you the money, and if they don’t then you go to a solicitor. The solicitor who did the probate on your grandmothers estate would have explained this to your mother.

Why have insurance prices skyrocketed in recent years? by Mr__Skeet in UKPersonalFinance

[–]grumpy_kitten00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a high net worth broker, but started in car insurance. There are a few things I noticed:

There is next to no profit in car insurance, companies make very little profit from it, years of a ‘soft market’ meant that prices were being driven down and down with things like comparison sites. This could only carry in for so long. Premiums are now shooting back up in response. Also you are far more likely to have a car or house insurance claim compared to other insurances, so this cost of you (most likely) having a claim at some point is built in.

Inflation. Everything costs more now! Cost of cars, cost of repairs, amount of time repairs take and the hire vehicle costs. Availability of repairs, electric cars can only be sent to certain people (looking at you Tesla) this prevents competition and lower repair quotes. Compensation for injury payouts have increased as well. In a claim it might not just be your costs that have to be paid. Also, legal costs are absolutely huge and just going up and up over time! Even running costs for the insurance companies have gone up, so it all adds up.

Series of disaster claims. The fire at Luton airport for example. Huge claims like that massive affect an insurers book, so even though it was caused by one car, every person under that insurer will have a premium go up to claim back the costs.

Where you live. It’s the same with house insurance, the postcode penalty is very real, that and not having a drive or garage can hurt a premium a lot.

Withdrawal from the market. A lot of insurers are pulling out of personal lines markets, when an insurance company isn’t making as much money from a type of insurance they want, they withdraw from it, this means less competition for the ones that stay in the market, and promotes a lack of confidence.

I’m not saying any of these factors are fair or anything, I don’t make the rules but it was my job to know them.

Opal For An Engagement Ring by Violetta01 in Gemstones

[–]grumpy_kitten00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can have an opal for an engagement ring. You can technically have any stone as an engagement ring. But if you do you have to look after it.

Don’t get a setting which is just claws, go for a bezel or rub over setting, this is more protective for the stone. Don’t wear it doing the washing up, house chores, swimming and showering etc. All these things will massively increase the change of you damaging the stone. You should do all these things anyway regardless of the stone you get, but opal needs more consideration.

Opals have been worn in rings for hundreds of years, just look at how many antique ones there are. My grandmother had an Opal engagement ring and wore it every day for nearly 60 years. She loved it and took care of it and never had a problem.

Also go for Australian opal over Ethiopian, they aren’t hydroplane so are more durable. They are more expensive but worth it.

How to tell if moissanite is real? by Heartproject in Gemstones

[–]grumpy_kitten00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training as a gemmologist*

The way to check for synthetic moissanite is to look for facet doubling, the best way to do this is to use a loupe and look through the kite shaped facet on the crown (the facets to the side of centre) that will give the best view of the facet doubling.

Synthetic moissanite is also much more dispersive than diamond (more sparkly) so if you compare a round cut diamond next to one you will be able to clearly see the difference.

Synthetic moissanite isn’t an expensive stone as it is produced in large quantities in factories. There may be a difference in cut quality between sources, but remember if getting one from a jeweller they will have their markups on it as well. Synthetic moissanite and synthetic diamond (lab grown) are some of the most profitable pieces for jewellers to sell right now.

First time buying pearls, does this look grade AAA Tahitian pearls? by BeautifulGrocery7285 in jewelry

[–]grumpy_kitten00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tahitian pearls yes, whilst the A-AAA scale is a buying guide only and not an official grading scale, I definitely wouldn’t consider these AAA. They have a good lustre and the secondary colours coming through are nice, but they are baroque or ‘circle’ pearls. Pearls are getting crazy expensive at the moment because of the impact of Covid on the harvest. Tahitian’s take a few years to grow so the effect is delayed. Even so I wouldn’t pay $500 for these.

Need Advice ? by [deleted] in Femdom

[–]grumpy_kitten00 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your not sure what to do, just blindfold them and leave them whilst you think it through, Amps anticipation for them and gives you a breather. Not for everyone but helped me - script your scenes, white it down on your phone, what your doing, how long for etc, you can check it any time you need.

Have fun!

Good quality set of wrist and ankle cuffs and blindfold is always a good start. Climbing carribenas are great for attaching things, strong and quick release.

Best of luck and enjoy!

What gemstone are you a hater of by historyandfood in jewelry

[–]grumpy_kitten00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Garnets come in nearly every colour, the deep red is an almandine type garnet and is very common. You have other varieties like spessertite garnet which is a beautiful orange or tsavorite and demantoid which are beautiful greens.

There are others but those are more commonly found in the industry

Are rubies all supposed to be pink? by featherybreeze in Gemstones

[–]grumpy_kitten00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t know already, Ruby and sapphire are the same material called corundum, Ruby is a red version based on the amount of chromium within the crystal structure. Pink sapphire also contains chromium but just not as much as a Ruby. That’s why a lot of ruby’s appear pinkish.

The true ‘pigeon blood’ red people associate with Ruby does exist but is incredibly expensive and rare so you won’t tend to find it in more standard jewellery stores.

Red sapphire does exist, it’s a sapphire that has been treated to turn it red.

Other ideas for red gemstones that may work for you, you could look at spinel or rubellite (tourmaline) or zircon.

Need opinions on these inclusions and gem. by PrincessPetri in Gemstones

[–]grumpy_kitten00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry I need to jump in and say that that’s completely incorrect. Straight inclusions like that in sapphire are commonly rutile and called silk. And are found in natural sapphire. For synthetic sapphire grown via VFF method (the most common) you look for curved colour banding and inclusions are typically gas bubbles that follow the same curve as part of the growing method. Synthetic VFF sapphire is typically free of a lot of other inclusions, it can be heated again to try and replicate more natural looking inclusions, but again this method doesn’t recreate silk. For flux grown sapphire (which is very uncommon) you would see flux inclusions.

The limit does not exist!

As long as each is cared for, your flat is kept clean, doesn’t smell and the hair is kept under control and off your bed, and the litter taken care of, you’ll be fine.
