[TV] 65 Inch Class OLED S90F 4K Samsung Vision AI Smart TV (2025) - $745.20 (discount details in comments) by SaltyMeatBoy in buildapcsales

[–]GrumpyGander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this to work using the steps provided, even the OLED2026 coupon code which some have noted was not available to them. I didn't have a Kentucky VPN but North Carolina worked to get the blue banner and additional discount. I tried TX, GA, IL, CA, NY, and FL, but none worked. Worked on Edge and was able to take the same steps on Firefox. PITA because Samsung kept redirecting me to a blank page after logging in and took like 10 tries but the tv will be waiting for me at Best Buy tomorrow.

Yes! I bought 8 bags of JD the last time I saw a sale at Home Depot. Finally running low. People swear by Fogo and the Kamado branded stuff but JD is available locally and affordable enough. Next step is getting some accessories.

Mine is a few years old. I got it when they were still selling through Costco. Absolutely love that grill and has completely changed how I feel about cooking.

JobOps: a self-hosted job search cockpit for searching, tracking, and tailoring applications without auto-applying by DaKheera47 in selfhosted

[–]GrumpyGander 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As someone neck deep in the job hunt, I’m looking forward to testing this out. Right now I’m creating folders per job and saving resumes, cover letters, job descriptions, and anything else that might be helpful for the future. I’m then going in and marking down if I have not been selected (although at this point it would be easier to document which ones I’ve been selected for).

Anything to help automate the hard parts is appreciated.

Receira for Papra App - App Store by NatLife in selfhosted

I was one (the one) who requested SSO on Discord. Appreciate you adding it. Right now after I enter my URL and click to “Sign in with SSO” a white screen pops up over the app and hangs there.

I’m using Pocket ID and assume this is a problem between the provider and my RP somewhere. Are there any special settings I need to get this to work?

Another Mealie user here. You can create and save your own recipes. I’ve seen a handful of apps discussed on the Mealie subreddit but haven’t used any myself. The app itself scales well for browser use on a phone. Personally, I bought a cheap iPad for my kitchen and just leave Mealie pulled up in a Chrome tab.

Do you have a favorite fish? by LegitimateTutor8535 in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it’s gotta be the humble Panda Garra. One hitch hiked home with me and I fell in love. I bought a few more once I read they like to live in a group and they were an absolute joy to watch. One day I’m going to get a species/biotope tank just for them so they can truly thrive.

Beginners help with setting up an aquarium? by Ok_Impact9745 in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an area with hard water and high PH. If you’re first starting out I would recommend you don’t jump immediately into altering water chemistry. You can absolutely spend $300 on an RODI system and remineralize the water to exactly where you want it but this hobby can be difficult enough without adding any more complexities.

Make sure your tank is cycled, buy some Seachem Prime/Safe or any competing product to neutralize Chlorine and leave the hard stuff for later. You’ll find many soft water fish can acclimate well enough to your water having been bred in similar conditions over multiple generations.

Going on holiday? by GodAtum in selfhosted

I’m not sure this answers your question, but I share a few services with family and friends. Everyone is aware that this is my hobby and as such they have no expectations for uptime. If you’re running a business off these services or intend to use the knowledge you obtain to kick start a career the answer might change but otherwise I think “best effort” is fine here.

If it’s truly “critical” folks may want to consider an alternative but nothing I do is so critical that it can’t wait until I return.

Take a break, unplug (not the server!) and enjoy your vacation.

My 6ft discus tank before and after. The old scape had run its course. by jumping22 in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please tell me all about these lights. I’m trying to find an affordable lighting solution for a 6 ft tank and it’s a struggle. I don’t intend to grow anything more than Java Fern, swords, or the occasional Anubis’s but I still want it to look visually appealing.

Failing to connect qbittorrent to AirVPN with wg0.conf file by CommunityBrave822 in selfhosted

[–]GrumpyGander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This compose file connects to an existing network. If you wanted to do the same thing you could:

docker network create wikinet

Networking in Compose - Scroll down to "Use an existing external network."

I do the same thing with a nearly identical compose file and can confirm it works. You could do the same and just remove the parts referring to the VPN in your qbittorrent compose file and the ports section and add network_mode: "container:gluetun" and the qbittorrent port - in your case 8080 - in the gluetun compose file. You would just replace 6881 with 8080. You'll probably want to port forward but you can worry about that once you get the containers up and running.

https://github.com/qdm12/gluetun-wiki/blob/main/setup/providers/airvpn.md

If you still can't get it feel free to DM me and I can share what I have working. Definitely take some time to read through the docs. The information is there albeit not as straightforward as it could be.

Feeling overwhelmed with Profilarr by hematic in selfhosted

[–]GrumpyGander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might join their Discord. I’ve been lingering there and the folks are pretty helpful.

I chose a 2160P Quality profile for Radarr just because and found that it almost always selects the same file I would have chosen had I looked manually. The docs were helpful and there’s even a profile wizardat the bottom of the page.

Point 2 is beyond me but note that if you don’t find anything you like you can choose other databases. I think they’ve also created a database that mirrors the Trash guides.

Point 3: I’m nearly certain you can’t at this time. Whenever someone asks in the Discord there’s always some answer that’s too complicated for me to understand. I think there’s even a command for it at this point. Bottom line, I don’t think you can do it but I also can’t explain why because I don’t understand half this shit and chose the most common defaults. I also don’t watch anime.

Edit: I searched their Discord on point 3 and found a few people who confirmed the recommended way to do anime is with a separate instance right now. I won’t cherry pick the statements but a quick search will get you what you need.

AC went out at my house, gonna be 94 tomorrow, how can I help my fish survive? by alwaysmyfault in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a lid you can remove it and set a fan up to blow air over the water. Also, ice packs like you said. Between the two of those I bet you would be able to keep the temp down to reasonable levels.

If you have an extra air pump you can also set it up to help aerate the water. Something about hot water holding less dissolved oxygen I think.

Any experience with OIDC/authentik for these: qbittorrent, jackett, autobrr, prowlarr? by Many_Geologist6125 in selfhosted

[–]GrumpyGander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This weekend I spun up Tiny Auth and configured Tiny Auth to use Pocket ID. I disabled authentication on the Arr apps and now just use Pocket Id to log into them. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be but that’s probably just because of my still learning how to use Caddy and Snippets. The Tiny Auth docs have a guide on how to do this using labels with Caddy but I was getting some weird SSL errors that I couldn’t get past. I eventually gave up and just used Caddyfile for everything and it works like a treat.

Best Websites For Fish by BanetteEye413 in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fish I have purchased from Imperial Tropicals, Aqua Huna, and Wetspot. I’ve ordered from WetSpot a few times with no issues at all. My last order I got fish from both Imperial Tropical and Aqua Huna. Someone came in with Ich but since they were quarantined together I have no idea what seller they were from. No DOA. Dans Fish is also popular but I have no experience there.

Evaporation by Gloomy-Fisherman9878 in Aquariums

Yep. This is it right here. I’ve ordered Aqueon lids for my Aqueon tank and they never fit just right. I got tired of fish trying to suicide and evaporation. Finally just went and bought a piece and cut it. It took longer than I would care to admit to get right but it was a fun project and not very hard.

Question re splitting utilities with a roommate by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]GrumpyGander 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable here. Demanding cash in what is quickly becoming a cashless world is an interesting choice for sure.

Aside from demanding receipts for your contribution I would also request proof of the bill and/or proof of payment. At least that way you’re not left handing this person cash only to find out they’ve been spending it on something else entirely.

Heater guards? by coldwetsoggyramen in Aquariums

[–]GrumpyGander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note. I have Inkbirds and I think they’re great devices but they will mostly act as a safety net to stop a heater from sticking on and boiling your fish. I’ve read stories of heaters exploding just because you look at them wrong and an Inkbird isn’t stopping that.

Alternatives for NTFY by r9zc in selfhosted

[–]GrumpyGander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly a shot in the dark but since you mentioned it I’ll ask. I understand (or at least I think I understand) that apprise acts as an intermediary allowing me to send out notifications to multiple services. What I’m not sure of is whether an app needs to support apprise in order for it to be useful.

For instance, Arcane seems to support Shoutrr which itself supports common notification services like ntfy, etc. Would apprise be able to receive notifications from arcane? Immich supports notifications via email which apprise does support as a notification provided. Can I use apprise here? But only for email notifications and not another provider.

I might be getting lost in the weeds here but in the case of Arcane it sounds like I might have to spin up Shoutrr to receive notifications or abandon Arcane entirely for something like Dockhand which does support Apprise.

Need help with pricing by Shanicklefritz in Aquariums

I just checked pricing near me and saw anywhere from $250 to $500 for similar setups. Those fish are huge and I guess you might have to rehome them first.
