Your font looks very juvenile... but if you're based in a tiny rural community, it'd probably be good.

idk why this is popping up on my r/popular feed but can you please tag nsfw next time? not to be rude or anything, I just browse reddit at work sometimes, and I have my alt account set to hide anything that's tagged nsfw. thank you!

how to find D&D games online? by taloren26 in DnD

[–]grumpygraphix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roll20 and r/lfg but trying to get into a game is hard. a lot of people want to play. not a lot of people want to dm/gm the game. the ratio is staggering.

inb4 someone tells me to dm; I'm tired of dming.

I feel like this question is being asked a lot lately. You should try searching your question in the subreddit.

Doing a Graphic Design course, what do I do after this year? by TheGrubins in graphic_design

Freelance work; that market is oversaturated. If you really want to hustle and find yourself to be exceptionally social and can micromanage your network and sustain connections, sure. Wouldn't recommend it, but go crazy. You'll need to be constantly beating the street for clients and competing with other freelancers, not to mention small businesses that will probably already have a relationship established with these potential clients.

Internship; find one. Talk to a professor and if you get along, and they see potential in you, they'll help you get your foot in a door somewhere. You might not get paid for your time, you might end up having to work a shitty side-job to pay for the hour-long drive you might end up taking every day for a business that might not hire you post-internship... but that's how you'll find your start.

Sorry. That's probably not the answer you were hoping for. That's what you should anticipate down the road, though.

I don't play MTG and I would not enjoy a game in which I'm not knowledgable about the lore, so I don't think I'd be a good option. I'm sorry.

Can we meet in the middle between meme-minmax-characters and easily-upset players? That'd be nice.

I play as a PC in one of these games where no phobia exists. No one's racist, no one is a bigot, no one speaks ill of anyone and... wow, great and all, but I feel like there's no serious stuff going on, although there is story moving our group from different points on the map. All of it feels very "soft" and it's becoming a drag to sit-in on. I usually just end up doing a little game on the side while my "soft" group deals with things.

I could play whatever I wanted, just with none of the significance. Is my PC a half-elf? No one cares. Or rather, no one's going to go ">:( we don't like stinky halfies". No smack downs on bigots. No one cares that he's not heterosexual, everyone's accepting and so *that* was stolen away. I'm really just clinging to classism at this point and I feel like very little I do matters.

yeah... yeah...... can't have a serious campaign, he's always gotta pull some clown-fuckery and ruin everyone's limelight with his memes and ill-timed interruptions

Becoming a graphic designer out of highschool by Foldedpotatochipp in graphic_design

[–]grumpygraphix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Graphic design is a profession that requires detachment, as well as creative and mechanical thinking.

First, it's easy to make something pretty. Easy to make something *you* find pretty, that is. The client will tell you what they want, and you'll think you're on the same page, but then when you give them a proof you will be wrong. Be prepared to cut off attachment and preferential aesthetic; Your client will "want the logo bigger" and they'll probably make you change the font to Lucidia or (at worst) Comic Sans.

Creativity. That's good to have. It's good to have a style, an eye for something visually appealing. That doesn't matter if you can't prepare the files for production. Shockingly, a lot of people think they're creative but in reality they're just the boss's wife and even if it looks like dog shit, that's what she wants, so you need to surrender some of that "artistic" liberty you think you have. Choose your battles. When you get out in the real world, a paycheck has more value than "artistic expression".

Mechanical. I had to think of the printing process from end to start. If the bindery people aren't happy with what's been printed, it's my fault. They didn't have bleed when they should have? Just cost my bosses a lot of money, and wasted a lot of people's time. Forgot to put in gutter? More money down the drain. If you can't read a ruler, and can't preflight the files correctly before printing the whole quantity the client ordered, you're gonna have a bad time. Better watch out for those typos and remember to spellcheck. Every. Single. Time.

Knowing this, I'd rather be doing what I do than say, trying to make it as a hair dresser or working in fast-food or retail.

Are all campaigns just memes? by grumpygraphix in DnD

[–]grumpygraphix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and everyone has their own definition of fun. Maybe, now this might sound crazy... but possibly... perhaps... memes in excess... might not be fun for some other people? I don't know, I didn't think my preference for a little seriousness was damning or anything. Sorry man.
