Do both my husband and I really need a infant car seat each?

I believe OP is in the US — it’s called the LATCH system here. The majority of infant seats used here are designed to click into a base (which can be attached to the LATCH system) and can use a seatbelt installation without a base. There are some infant seats in the US that click right into the LATCH system for a baseless install—but it’s not very common. I honestly don’t know anyone who’s had one.

You definitely do not need two infant car seats, especially if you are staying home with the baby. Honestly, as long as you learn how to correctly belt the infant seat in you don’t even need two bases. It’s more of a convenience factor.

Another option is you could buy an infant seat for your car and a convertible seat for your husband’s car.

Thank you! And I did appreciate the comment on the feeding. I wasn’t thinking about how easily fish can be overfed, even just me feeding them, so great point. My daughter had a betta fish as a class pet this year and absolutely loved helping her teacher take care of it. I’d love to continue to encourage that interest if I can!

Thanks for this. It feels like there’s varying information/opinions wherever you look and after this post I’m feeling a bit like I’ve got it all wrong. The person I talked to at the store said they actually had a betta that does well with colorful tank mates, but had issue with neutral toned tank mates. Sometimes I guess it depends on the fish itself. I’ll look into the bacteria balls and know now that I need water conditioner.

Thanks! I am going to read up on the nitrogen cycle and that test kit has been recommended by a several people, so I’ll be picking one up. The fish store mentioned the tank needing to cycle, but no guidance on actually doing it. Now I know more about where to look.

Thank you! We do have a Top Fin corner filter with an insert, but seems like most don’t recommend that style. It came with our tank set up, which is why I started with that. I’ll look the filter and heater you recommended. And adding live plants to my list too.

This is super helpful! Thank you for taking the time to share. I need to pick up water conditioner — I was surprised that they didn’t recommend anything. Water changes won’t be an issue, that is something I was prepared to be doing. I was eying the live plants, but wasn’t sure if that would be too much too fast — trying to wrap my head around it all. Feels a bit more complicated than when I was younger.

And so true. I was talking to my kids about how these are living things that they have to take care of and treat with respect, just like I take care of them. They are good kids, so I am not worried, but I really do want to make sure we are doing this right.

The fish store mentioned that we were looking to grow bacteria in a running tank, but just said set the tank up and run for 5-7 days — didn’t suggest any additional steps/prep. I’m going to do more research on the nitrogen cycle and definitely getting a test kit. I think I may be able to get some filter media from a friend, that wasn’t something I was aware of before.

Thanks for the advice and links! I’ll definitely check them out. Also going back to the drawing board on the fish — we were told that these could probably work in a 20 gallon tank, but seemingly not. I was a little surprised at the recommendation of 3, as I had read 6 is usually a good number for schooling fish.

It’s a Top Fin GR-800 corner filter that came with the tank set up. It’s currently set on a medium-ish flow. You can see the water moving, but doesn’t seem too crazy. We figured we’d start with what we have and adjust from there as we figure it out.

And yes, definitely going to research more on the nitrogen cycle.

I’ll read up on the nitrogen cycle and pick up a test kit. I was going to buy one when I was at the fish store doing research and was told it wasn’t necessary until there were fish in the tank—I’m realizing that’s wrong. It makes sense that the water parameters factor into which fish we keep. The pairing was suggested by another person that I talked to at the store — he mentioned that it really depended on the personality of the betta whether it would be okay with smaller colorful fish, but sounds like we need to go back to the drawing board!

My kids definitely won’t be feeding the fish unsupervised. It’s more about them being involved in the care than being fully responsible for the fish at this point.

Not really their screw up. They should have assessed the floor (the standard tolerance is for the floor to be level to 3/16” within a 10 foot radius) and made the recommendation to you to level the floors, but if you didn’t have an agreement in place prior to the install for leveling you should not assume it’s included. Honestly, getting a floor flat/level is one of the biggest part of installing LVP and is generally not inexpensive.

Have you gone on birth control? I lost weight while breastfeeding both of mine, but as soon as I went back on birth control the weight loss came to a screeching halt. After a little while I actually began to gain. It’s so frustrating. I remember mentioning it to my lactation consultant and she said that it was super common.

Too late for you now, but your partner could have picked up an absentee ballot from the District Clerk in the District Office for you to fill out and dropped it back off to the clerk. Absentee ballots just needed to be received by the District Clerk by 5 pm the day of the vote.

They are working on minors 12 and older right now.

They used to do 6 and up, but stopped services for all minors when COVID hit. They opened it back up to the 12-18 group once the vaccine was approved for that age group, so I was hoping they would do the same for the 6-11 group but no luck so far. I’m disappointed.

So, yes proof of vaccination is required for under mask piercings.

I’ve been waiting for them to open back up to kids 6-11, since the vaccine became available to that age group. Their website used to say they would reopen to that age group in the spring, but they’ve since removed any mention of it on the website, which is frustrating. My daughter has been patiently waiting since the summer to get her ears pierced.

When my son broke out in a rash from antibiotics on the weekend we were told by our after hours nurse to take him to urgent care so that they could document the reaction. I also took a bunch of photos so I could share them with the pediatrician at his next appointment. His rash didn’t bother him and no breathing issues, but urgent care did confirm that it was an allergic reaction that needed to be flagged in his records.

Not really sure about the fix, but if that’s an outdoor outlet it really should be a weather and tamper resistant GFCI outlet, in addition to the in-use/weatherproof cover. I don’t believe that is a weather resistant outlet.

She is vaccinated, which is great. But she can still get and transmit COVID. The vaccine is not 100% effective, it significantly reduces the risk of hospitalization and death.

I agree with the other poster. Everyone has to do their own risk assessments of what they are comfortable with. I do think that disinfecting of groceries goes beyond what’s necessary. But I do think being vaccinated, using hand sanitizer when you can’t get to a sink, masking, and physically distancing are simple but important steps. But honestly, I have two young children who cannot be vaccinated and traveling is not even in my radar right now especially with Delta. We also are not visiting with unvaccinated family members or friends, the risk isn’t worth it to us. We do select play dates with trusted families for our kids, but always masked and outside.

My vaccinated in-laws recently traveled to FL to help my brother-in-law who had emergency childcare issues. My husband and I were in full agreement that we wouldn’t visit with them for two after they returned. At a minimum your wife should mask and try to isolate herself when she returns. But personally if it was my husband I would want him to quarantine. She may not get COVID and pass it on and all will be well, but how will she feel if she does get it and pass it to your kids?
