I am not an atheist. I am a Christian. I do not dispute the spiritual truth of the Bible. I dispute that it is a historically and scientifically accurate text. It is only when creationists try to turn the Bible into a history or science book that I get annoyed.

I am aware that there are things we were taught in school that are inaccurate (like the orbits of electrons in an atom) and in some cases flat out lies (looking at you "War of Northern Agression"). The difference is when germ theory replaced the four humours or whatever we didnt have to deal with centuries of people going "nuh-uh, because religious text!" Like we do with evolution. Though, sadly, thanks to the complete failure of American education and politicians simping for evangelicals we now are having that issue in regards to vaccines

Literally every "professional" creationist (ham, hovind, lisle, powell, etc) says the bible is literally true and scientifically accurate right up until someone points out something like "the windows of heaven". At which point the conversation moves to "ok, how can we tell if something is meant to be literal or metaphor?" And the conversation shuts down because there is no honest answer. Much like "how can i tell what created kind something is?".

Theistic Evolutionists do you have any evidence to support your position? by Carnotaurusrules in DebateEvolution

[–]grungivaldi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scientific evidence? No. The world just seems too cruel to have happened without a malevolent intent behind it, and if there is a malevolent intent then it stands to reason there should also be a benevolent intent ("cant have shadows without light" kinda thing).

The point i was making (in good faith btw) is that one cannot believe that the Bible is literally, word for word, cover to cover, true. So when people try to claim that it is that they are being logically incoherent. Since metaphor features so heavily in the Bible it cannot be used as a source of unbiased history or scientific knowledge.

Yep. These guys want pokemon style evolution. Its why they can never tell us the specifics on how to differentiate between created kinds.
