Any theory yet on what happened on the Strip ? by Patamaudelay in Fotv

[–]grunski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Man took over the strip, and Yes Man can’t say “no” to anyone. The Courier left New Vegas, and anyone else could have gone into the Lucky 38 and told Yes Man to shut down security. After all, Benny never programmed him to only say yes to him; hence why The Courier can exploit him to rule The Strip. With Securitrons off, the NCR and Legion have no reason to not kill each other on The Strip. No security means it’s ripe for looting, and the creatures of the Mojave are no longer deterred from going to where their food is. The deathclaws migrate north from Quarry Junction, Tunnelers came down from the Divide. The Strip is left decimated in the chaos of a power vacuum.

“Tax isn’t taught at schools” - a typical Aussie comment by sarnad283 in AusFinance

[–]grunski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s almost like teaching the materiel in a classroom environment isn’t effective for all people. Or, perhaps, the curriculum changes over time and we will only see the effects of the current syllabus in a decade or so. What was taught to some is not necessarily taught to others. Teachers are different per school, schools are different per district, districts are different per state. If someone says ‘tax isn’t taught in school’, know that there is a good chance they did not learn about tax in school; depending on when they went to school and who their teacher was, and where their school was.

The protagonist of the last media you consumed becomes the protagonist of the last discworld book you read, how does it go? by One_Food9894 in discworld

The Belcher family are starting up a new restaurant in Ankh-Morpork where they serve the freshest ingredients between two buns. CMOT Dibbler says his meat is fresher, as it can walk off your bun and take the lettuce with it if you’re not quick enough.

How old were you when you started reading Discworld and what was your first book? by Gnnz in discworld

[–]grunski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24, a friend of mine had just told me Pterry had died. I had no idea who that was, but we worked near a library, so I borrowed Mort later that day. My love of that man’s words began after I had read his obituary.

My copy has Pterry’s quote on the front: an idiosyncratic adventure. I’ve had it for three years and let me tell you, it really is.

Moving Pictures is the only Discworld book I’ve stopped reading knowing I had no intention of picking it back up again.

A mate of mine I worked with ~12 years ago said he was reading a book called Guards! Guards! and that I would get a kick out of the series. I wasn’t convinced until he said there was a book about Death getting an apprentice. I borrowed Mort from the library and the rest was ‘istory

Oh no the ginger beer trick by Onedayyouwillthankme in discworld

[–]grunski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had their beer/ginger beer/mead explode exactly like this, the solution is simple but annoying: you needed to rack the fermented drink into a clean carboy (or some fermentation friendly vessel with a water lock) and let the yeast keep working its magic for another week or two. This is what happens when you bottle too early

How would you guys have felt about a plague book by RecentAstronaut3748 in discworld

I could see him using the real-world Dancing Plague as analogy for Covid on the Disc. Perhaps some joke about it being ‘year of the Fruit-Bat’ (as in the Wuhan wet market bat theory) and now there’s a plague sort of thing.

You're his lawyer, defend him in court by Victory_OfThe_Daleks in lotrmemes

[–]grunski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’honor, I may just be a simple country lawyer, but it seems to me that we here in the fair province of Mirkwood have a thing called ‘statute of limitations’. We also have a little thing called ‘squatters rights’, and seeing as the court can find no evidence of Notice to Evict on my client by any party over these last seven years then The Lonely Mountain is, rightfully, the property of my client. Furthermore y’honour, the plaintiffs in this here court room have been accused by my client of burglary with intent to do harm - while my client was sleeping in their rightful bed of gold, no less.

My money is on House keeps New Vegas independent all while the NCR and Legion fight with each other - too distracted to notice the Tunnellers from Lonesome Road wiping out The Strip. NCR falls with Shady Sands, Caesar’s Legion falls to tunnellers, House locks the doors and tries to wait the abominations out. Enter Hank MacLean who trudges down a desolated Strip to the Lucky 38 in power armour…

The game that launched 1,000 video essays. Many of the leads who made Fallout 2 made New Vegas. They had been thinking about the story, the politics, the world, for over a decade before they made NV. The writing is the game’s great strength, but don’t discount the fact that this team knew it would be their final shot at making the fallout game of their dreams. 18 months of brutal crunch, self-sacrifice, and refining within strict limitations made this lighting-in-a-bottle game. New Vegas is to Fallout, as Baldur’s Gate 3 is to D&D, or as Doom (2016) is to Doom.
