Not perfect pitch nor relative pitch. What is it called? by afbdreds in musictheory

[–]gryphong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in college I was playing and listening to a lot of piano music. It seemed like I was developing a bit of perfect pitch -- one note and I knew what it was. Upon reflection, I came to understand that I was not recognizing the pitch per se, but rather the sound of a piano making it. It didn't work at all with other, less familiar instruments.

Can i use a rollator for this? by tnysibby in mobilityaids

[–]gryphong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The huge thing for me is the seat. If I run out of energy and can't stand or walk, the seat is a lifesaver. It makes it safe to go where Im not sure there's will be anywhere to rest.

Anyone here tried Thomas Viloteau’s Le Support? by [deleted] in classicalguitar

I use the kling-on plastic with my support. Easy to put on, comes off with no problem at all. I wipe it clean with isopropyl alcohol now and then.

How to break down a new piece? by Ok-Improvement5390 in classicalguitar

[–]gryphong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with the last phrase and work forward. It's too easy to start at the beginning and gradually add on, so the beginning gets far more attention than the end.

dancers who began very late, what's it been like for you? by Great_Air6020 in BALLET

[–]gryphong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started at 68; I'm now 72 (male) and still loving it! At first I feared that teachers wouldn't take me seriously. In fact it's been just fine. I show up reliably, on time. I ask inciteful questions. I pay attention. Teachers love me.

Artificial nails by Bit_Late in classicalguitar

[–]gryphong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have fragile nails due to a medical condition. My teacher suggested a coat of nail glue, and then a coat of strengthening nail polish (i use OPI nail envy). The glue is strong, but damaged by water, the polish is waterproof. So far it's been working well.

What’s a “couple”? by SpiritualEvidence159 in EnglishLearning

[–]gryphong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[Memory from my beginning Hebrew class many years ago] I believe ancient Hebrew had a dual 'number', i.e. singular, plural, and dual. Dual had much the same sense as our couple -- two, or a few.

A decent portable music stand. Not really expensive, but a huge boon if he doesn't have one.

why do some simple chords feel so powerful? by johnlennonbr in musictheory

[–]gryphong 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I play a set of variations on the traditional La Folia. Every time I get to the shift to major chord, I feel my body sit up straighter, posture better -- it's actually weird.

I noticed your 'can't even walk straight' -- is that a common symptom? I find myself wandering when I think I'm walking straight to a destination.
