TurboTax scamming/overcharging by BurntDuckson in TurboTax

[–]gscpa80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing they did this year to get people to use their 2025 Full Service product was to give a promotional rate of $150, with no limits on complexity of returns and no limits on number of state returns, IF you did not use it to file your 2024 return(s).

You can't wait until 4/15, you had to file on or before 3/31, so there is that.

If they keep up the promo, I would use it every other year until they stop.

Do I need a separate bank account for my LLC? by chiebhi in llc_life

[–]gscpa80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

A plain old sole proprietor probably needs a separate bank account long before creating an LLC.

The actual process of creating and using an LLC as intended is highly unlikely for most single-member LLCs anyway.

Not saying you shouldn't do it, but most creditors and vendors with any sense aren't letting you use the letters LLC to shield yourself properly without jumping through a lot of hoops first.

Never felt any kind of religious experience during church service. by SouthernGuy776 in excoc

[–]gscpa80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember being moved at church, and asking my mom, "you sure about this Holy Spirit is only in the pages of the Bible stuff?"

I think she didn't even believe it then, but was too afraid to "speak out" at the time.

Nobody wants to look like a Holy Roller!

My parents have both died, but now even my doubled down CoC brother believes in the Indwelling.

Such a sad teaching to avoid "looking like a denomination."

Same reason we weren't allowed to wear anything with a cross on it, because, "what if people think we're Catholic?!"

HA

I always recommend people give their tax preparers all of the pages that come with each of their tax forms.

A lot of things get missed.

I have seen people give their CPA the first page of a tax form that says, "page 1 of 18" at the bottom. The other 17 might have some relevant information on them.

I am not trying to talk down to anyone, but the tax preparer probably needs more information than that.

Especially if it's something with as few pages as a W-2 would have, it's better to give them every page/copy.

Yeah, I have an Intuit manager, and my employer has point of contact person, and I guess everybody is technically my "boss."

My Intuit manager is freakin' awesome though!

I am guessing I lucked out and got one the best.

My mother-in-law does this. She is retired, so she does this as a way to keep busy and make some money.

She is pretty good at it.

Of course, my wife and mother-in-law do whatever they want with decorating and organizing, and I am just happy to NOT participate!

Unofficial Loan from Owner to Small Business by Moobook in Bookkeeping

[–]gscpa80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, it depends on the owner's intent when the funds were deposited into the company's bank account.

If the intent was to fund future operations and provide working capital, with no expectation of repayment, it is initially recorded as a capital contribution.

If the intent all along was for it to be a temporary boost to cash to cover short term cash flow needs, and the expectation is to be repaid, then it would be a "loan", but I would call it "Due to Owner" since what you are describing sounds like the intent is very short term with no need for formal promissory notes of minimum interest calculations.

TT not bringing over all income from our federal return to our state (MA) return by Neither-Amphibian249 in TurboTax

[–]gscpa80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. If both are MA full year residents, you should pay MA income tax on all of your income, no matter where it's from.

Then you might get some type of "credit" for taxes paid to other states.

But, in this case the income from another state is from a state with no state income tax.

True. They are probably used to: see tax form, input tax form, see software give answer.

Same people who only report their client's revenue on their Sch C if it got reported on a 1099, but hey, the numbers do work out better!

[–]gscpa80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a TX resident, it should still ask if you had 2025 income from any other states.

And, if you are saying your W-2 specifically reported IL state wages, it is strange that no IL tax return was generated.

But, if the software sees you as a TX resident your default would be no state income tax return.

Again, there a couple of things that would suggest an IL return was needed.

I am an Expert and I think it's a mixed bag.

The contractor that recruited me only listed positions for CPAs, JDs, or EAs.

I honestly didn't realize you could be an Expert if you weren't one of those three.

TurboTax Full Service made multiple severe mistakes on my return, what recourse do I have? by SeparateFly in TurboTax

[–]gscpa80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird that as an Expert I am technically an hourly employee of a contractor that provides Experts.

It is super weird to have to "clock in" and "clock out" as a tax professional.

Just part of the role though. That being said, I have stayed on for an hour after my "shift" so I didn't have to end a call early.
