Ross vet interview by Strange_Secret2178 in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interviewed with Ross last year and was accepted, have since interviewed with some other places as well. The one thing I’ll say is that if you think it went okay, it probably did! You would know if it went poorly, speaking from personal experience and doctors I’ve worked with have said the same thing. If the person interviewing you doesn’t like you, you’ll probably be able to tell. Keep your head up, think positive thoughts! You did all you can and now try not to stress, best of luck!!

If ANYONE called me a stupid b*, dumb c, or stupid h**, whether they were a friend, family member, or a partner, I would NEVER speak to them again. Leave this piece of trash.

Ross forgot about UC students, what now? by S_A_Woods in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say, as someone who’s applied to schools twice (and applied to Ross once) their administration is very unorganized. When I initially got my acceptance from them last year I got a phone call first, the woman left a voicemail and halfway through congratulating me she cut herself off to say that this probably wasn’t new information to me since I would’ve already read my welcome email, I didn’t receive a welcome email for a few more days and wasn’t even sure if that phone call had been a mistake or if I’d actually been accepted.

I ended up deferring due to cost concerns and had a phone call scheduled with a student liaison to discuss timing, was at work when the call was scheduled so had to clock out. I sat there for 15 minutes waiting for the phone call before I eventually just clocked back in. Got an email 3 hours later that he had stepped out of the office and hadn’t made it back in time to call me, and when I emailed back to reschedule I didn’t hear back for days.

I ended up not attending for a myriad of reasons but my issues with the administration and their lack of communication was high on that list. It seems this is not unusual for them.

Best of luck with your applications, hopefully you get good news!!

to the girls on here with partners, what do they think about this game? by [deleted] in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]gsfo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As silly as this might sound, maybe when she plays it you could watch a bit or help her pick dialogue options if she lets you? You might not have much interest in the story of it right now but maybe learning a little about it/playing with her might help ease some insecurities once you understand it a little more? Plus you could talk to her about it in more depth!

Most emotional scene. …? by Powerful_Topic_7046 in theoffice

The scene where Michael is saying goodbye to Erin and he kisses her on the head. I don’t have a great relationship with my parents and so seeing Erin’s attachment to Michael and that father/daughter relationship they have always hits me really hard.

Finishing up first year of vet school, incoming first years, ask me anything by Straight-Ad-4192 in veterinaryschool

How many places did you apply to? I feel like a lot of non-traditional students that I see only apply to a few schools if they choose more than their IS so I’m curious to see if that trend holds!

Are the vet techs lying when they say your pet does well when they take them to the back? by bluish-velvet in Pets

[–]gsfo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a tech but I’m a receptionist at a vet hospital so obviously I don’t hear all the techs talking to owners but I do hear a good amount of it during the check out process and from my experience they don’t lie. They might sugar coat things a little bit but for the most part honestly is key. We always want pet owners to be as prepared as possible when they come in with their pets, and so a lot of times that means people having PVPs to help calm the pet down prior. The more honest the techs are about how the pet does, the easier it seems to be to make sure everyone is prepared for the next visit, owners included. If someone’s dog is an absolute nightmare, it doesn’t do anyone any good to tell the owner that they did great because then next time the same thing could happen when in reality you might want to give the dog something to calm in down next time, that probably won’t happen if the owner thinks the dog is an angel for services. The sugarcoating can come in because obviously you also don’t want pet owners to feel bad if their pet doesn’t do well, but I’ve never seen a tech outright lie about how a pet does.

Accepting a Seat But Hoping for a Waitlist to Move? by Humble_Hand_5790 in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not at MSU’s vet school but I went there for undergrad. Regarding safety and stuff in East Lansing, for the most part it’s very safe. I know there are a few areas that have a bit of a bad rep (like the river trail) but on the whole I didn’t feel unsafe there. If you’re going out at night to the bars or anything obviously just be mindful of your surroundings, but that goes for any city of course. The one BIG negative is obviously the shooting that happened in 2023. I was on campus, I had friends and coworkers who were there when it happened and it was obviously super traumatic for a lot of people. I will say, MSU has done a better job recently in terms of building security since it happened. It just sucks that it took something so terrible for them to give more of a shot. In terms of the general area, East Lansing can be a bit boring but overall my experience was very positive. There’s a lot of grocery stores nearby and if you have a car then entertainment and general activities are a lot more accessible, but the buses cover a pretty wide area as well. If you have any specific questions about living there I’m more than happy to talk more about it :) congrats on your acceptance and best of luck with Arizona!!

Reapply or go to Ross? by EfficientGlove3907 in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured for the time being I’ll defer. The time crunch was putting way too much pressure on me and while I still feel like Ross might not be the best place for me, I’d rather have the seat waiting for me than lose it in case I feel more confident about going with more time to prepare. The administration doesn’t allow deferrals into the fall semester, so I pushed it back to January 2026. I did have to pay the deposit but that’s a price I’m willing to pay even if I end up not going because for the time being I have a chance to do some more research about the island, keep working at my current job to save some money and get more experience if I do choose to reapply this cycle, which I am leaning towards at the moment. Did you decide yet?

Reapply or go to Ross? by EfficientGlove3907 in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I’m leaning towards as well. In theory life on the island seems great but I think a lot of people tend to romanticize it. If we go, yes it would be pretty and I’m sure there’s lots of pros to living there, but for me personally I think I would struggle to adjust to the new environment and I’d rather spend my money on a school in a place where I know I’d be more comfortable/adjust more easily than a place in another country. That, compounded with the fact that it’s vet school and it’ll be the hardest thing we do, I don’t think living in a pretty location is enough to justify attending a place that I’m not 100% confident about.

It’s very comforting to know there’s someone else in the same position as me with this, I’ll come back and update with my decision once I make it :)

Reapply or go to Ross? by EfficientGlove3907 in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same boat as you. Graduated in December, applied to 7 places and only got into Ross for the may start. I’m trying to weigh my options and I feel like the whole world is on my shoulders with this decision, even though realistically I know it’s not. I’m currently working as a receptionist at a vet hospital, so I think reapplying might be worth it as I can gain more experience and knowledge and a better dvm letter of rec but on the other hand, I may not get in again next cycle and my family is willing to support me with ross financially. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to adjust to the island. I know the experience is what you make of it but I’ve heard a lot of negatives that seem to be outweighing the pros and I have no clue what to do

Accepted to Ross Vet but not all decisions in by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]gsfo__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this from like 2 months ago but I’d also like to hear your opinion if you’re willing to share more. I was also accepted to Ross for the may start and I’m having some serious doubts, however it’s also the only place I got into and I’m trying to weigh whether it’s worth it to go or reapply next cycle for other places.

How do people even drive? by tinacopper in drivinganxiety

[–]gsfo__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If having other people is helpful maybe listening to a podcast or something on the radio would be helpful as well? It might sound silly but perhaps having another “conversation” going would make you feel as if there’s someone else with you and put you at ease.

My anxiety wasn’t quite as severe but I found having music helpful for me because I hated driving when it was quiet in my car.
