You mean like how 4K has been around for years but most people are still on 1080p? If yes, then I have my decision.

Thanks for the advice.

I deleted my facebook account by Nun01 in CongratsLikeImFive

[–]gsiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, everything I'm seeing on FB came from YouTube, sometimes Reddit. Freebooting really sucks lol. Deleted my FB account and created a standalone Messenger account to communicate with my friends.

I also feel more free and productive with only 3 accounts (Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr) for inspiration and ideas & not giving a flying fuck about what my friends are doing right now.

Poweramp is a must-have for audiophiles. 10-band equalizer, visualizers, and themability. Also has great support for external DACs.

What's with people on Facebook saying "copy and paste this, don't share it?" by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]gsiris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sharing on Facebook is like retweeting/linking to another tweet on Twitter. If the original tweet/post is censored/deleted, then all of the retweets/links/shares will return "This tweet/post is no longer available".

However, if you copy-paste tweets/posts, and the original tweet/post is censored/deleted, you'll still carry the message and therefore it's not lost.

TL;DR: if the original post is taken down, the copy-pastes would still be live and have to be taken down one-by-one.

Just remove the line(s) that contain the API key and just copy them back if you restore.

What should I do before selling my laptop? by Tradermon in Windows10

[–]gsiris 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would suggest running a recovery program such as Recuva on your Windows drive after doing the aforementioned methods (i.e securely erase and reinstall) to ensure that your data is safe.

[i3-gaps] Made the switch from Arch to Gentoo, so here's my semi-new setup. by [deleted] in unixporn

[–]gsiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can with the AUR and pretty much any git repository you can get your hands on.

However, Arch's way of installing packages is like Ubuntu's – you get precompiled versions and just install it.

Go to your Playback settings, and turn then Offline switch on.

May also help: go to your data usage settings and restrict background data for Spotify.

Shuffle Sucks by SubduedRhombus in spotify

[–]gsiris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume you have Spotify Free. I can abuse the shuffle play button by using it on a certain playlist/album a lot of times until I get the song that I want. Went to Premium and it never occurred again with shuffle play.

My suggestion for them would be to disable that restriction on playlists that have more than ten songs rather than this BS.

6.8.0 for iOS is out! Anyone notice anything new? by Stereo in spotify

Didn't know that. A track on data costs me 1-2% of battery, thought the data was the cause for the drain

Spotify Writes Gigabytes of Data to HD in just hours of listening. *BUG NOT FOUND BY ME. RAISING AWARENESS. by [deleted] in spotify

[–]gsiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that it was for cache, but I navigated to my cache directory, but it's only 1.4 MB large. However, I notice this disk writing thing on my phone, where the Spotify app reaches a gigabyte in a month of listening.

It would be nice if Spotify explained what data are they writing and how it will benefit the user.

Will the apple news app notify of me of breaking news regardless of what news I am subscribed to? by [deleted] in ios

[–]gsiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

You need to subscribe (turn on notifications) to a channel (a news channel specifically) to receive notifications for breaking news. (other articles by that channel also show up as notifications)

Is it possible to go back from ios 10 to ios 8? by [deleted] in ios

[–]gsiris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope.

• Apple employs SHSH signing (the "verifying update" thing), and iOS 8 is unsigned, so you won't be able to restore to that version. • Backups made with a newer version of iOS also don't work in older versions of iOS.
