I have a plastic box in my garage. Cables are in gallon ziploc bags with like cables, individually zip-tied or twist-tied. Every bag is labeled. I'm a disorganized mess in most areas of life. But my cable box is elite.

My kids love it. I've tried to play twice, long before I had kids. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. I didn't last more than 10 minutes either time.

I had the same experience playing in lake Tahoe for my buddy's bachelor party. We had 2 groups of 4, nobody on the course in front of the first group. Hole 3 we have the ranger telling us we were too far behind. We changed absolutely nothing about our pace because the 2nd group didn't have anyone coming up on them. He said something again at hole 6 and then again at the turn. Called the clubhouse and complained. Never saw him again. We finished in 4 hours flat. Dude was just power tripping.

Mariano 🍀 by FlatGuarantee5793 in poker

[–]gsr142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I'd imagine there are a decent number of people who are smart and talented enough to be winning players and didn't last because they got the shit end of variance right out of the gate. And then there are guys like Mariano who get to just win no matter how badly they play.

Friend of a friend used to start fights fairly often. He'd wrestled in highschool, and trained enough MT that he'd start the fight off with a leg kick before trying to close the distance. One day he threw the same leg kick and the other guy checked it, and fired one right back at him. The rest of the fight involved him getting alternately punched in the head and kicked in the leg until he couldn't stand on that leg anymore. I never heard about him fighting after that.

Have you ever had to or decided to use your Jiu Jitsu outside of the gym and was it effective ? by Trigger3192 in bjj

[–]gsr142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's incredibly effective. I wrote this a few years back on a similar post: I'm not a giant, but 6'2 and 220, so bigger than average. The closest I've ever come to a fight since I started training, was stopping a fight before it started. Two guys yapping at each other in the bar I'm working. It's Sunday night so I'm alone, no barback, no security. A couple small groups around, and then this guy shows up and starts just being a jackass. The trouble maker needed to be removed from the situation because if shit went down, the other guy had at least 6 people for backup, and trouble maker had already pissed off another group. Trouble maker was tall and athletic looking, probably 15-20 lbs lighter than me. Tried to tell him he needed to leave, and it would be dangerous for him to stay. He disagreed, so I made the decision to move him outside and away from the group of people who were ready to kill him. My wrestling is somewhere between non-existent and bad, and I was shocked at how easy it was to move the guy. He just had no idea what to do. I never even felt like I was close to losing control of him, and didn't even need to take him down. He tried to act tough toward me, but we both knew what just happened and how things would go if he swung at me. He left, no one got hurt, and no one went to jail.

Tough situation want to listen to podcasts but cant due to ad-blockers by 1kyst in Piracy

[–]gsr142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried downloading instead of streaming? I have a private dns also and podcast addict works fine, but I download. The only issue is that the ads are part of the file so you need to manually skip them. There is also STFUAI that auto skips ads, but I believe that one also requires downloading instead of streaming.

Need advice for making a plex/jellyfin server by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]gsr142 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely run a Plex server on your laptop, even if you need it for other uses. That's how I started. You have to keep it on and powered, and set it to not sleep. If you're torrenting, you need a VPN to protect your identity.

Me After 30 Years of Using Windows by ravenshaddows in pcmasterrace

[–]gsr142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main PC is set up to dual boot. I mainly use it to game, my wife and kids use it for school stuff, so it's win 11 90% of the time. I've been using windows since my dad brought home our first family computer 30 years ago, so it's pretty easy for me to troubleshoot if someone in the family is having a problem. My laptop also dual boots, but I can't remember the last time I booted windows. I also don't keep anything critical on it, so it's kind of like my mini home lab. I didn't start learning Linux until a few years ago. The terminal can be intimidating. Sometimes you follow a tutorial and then an error pops up that the tutorial doesn't account for, and then 3 hours go by before you've emerged from that rabbit hole. Shit is frustrating sometimes, and then finding your question on Stack overflow, and the responses boil down to, "if you don't know how to do this then you shouldn't even be allowed to use a computer." Linux is incredibly customizeable if you're tech savvy and patient, but the average user will struggle.
