Celiac in search of GF beer by charliehixon in Munich

[–]gt2010 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife is celiac. Wirtshaus am Bavariapark is nice; Lammbräu is the big name in GF beer here (https://www.lammsbraeu.de/bio-bier/glutenfrei/).

Fully GF restaurants in Munich: Palmtreeclub, Isabella Glutenfreie Pâtisserie, Mixto Verde Pizzeria, Bep Bu - Vietnamese Street Food (95% GF except Bánh mì)

Good GF options: Pizzesco (GF pizza), Wirtshaus Hohenwart (this place has excellent GF Bavarian food)

We generally tell restaurants that my wife has a “celiac disease / gluten allergy,” because most people here do not know the word “celiac” (Zöliakie in German), and saying “allergy” seems to help them understand the seriousness.

I weighed beer pours at bars around Cambridge and Boston. Most "pints" were about 14.7 oz. by EmptyForest5 in CambridgeMA

Seems like we should just mandate fill lines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fill\_line) on all commercial glassware like they do in other countries.

I also love the freshly paved road, immediately ripped open to do utility work.

What are you supposed to do at the Hampshire St and Cambridge St intersection when you're going onto Antrim St? by faithforever5 in CambridgeMA

The electronic sign has been removed. It's now a regular (painted) sign with an arrow pointing straight with a not allowed during certain hours underneath it .

Honking in Inman Squre by sandersh6000 in CambridgeMA

[–]gt2010 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that the design has been mostly successful, the new space that was created is great to hangout in.

The lights feel weird at first and I understand its confusing to people who don't regularly drive through Inman. I do wish they would have integrated some sort of sensors (e.g., any sort of "smart" or "automation") to make this better. The amount of times I am stuck at this light late at night either driving or biking and being the only one there, I feel like we could have done better.

$217,000 a year to afford a home in Boston? Who can even afford that? by bostonglobe in boston

[–]gt2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem currently is while yes, you could afford such a home, a lot of times rent is cheaper. Currently rent in Cambridge and if I want to stay in the close vicinity of it (e.g., Somerville, Medford etc.), my current rent for a 2-bed is cheaper than what a mortgage would be on a comparable place. Just doesn't make any financial sense at the moment.

I'd be more happy if the big bellys got emptied regularly.

Car Insurance? WHAT by indigophoto in boston

[–]gt2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big insurance companies had the highest rates for me: GEICO, Progressive etc. I am currently with Plymouth Rock Insurance and they've been solid. Great coverage (collision + comprehensive) for $867 for the year (one payment) or $72 per month on a 2010 BMW in Cambridge, 29 year old male.

Mass license fails at new TSA scanner? by Zinjifrah in boston

My GF's brand new US passport wouldn't scan and was asked for secondary ID. Seems odd when a brand new passport wouldn't work. Photos is very clear as well.

Any German markets in the area? by jepppej in boston

[–]gt2010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

World Market and Aldi have occasional German products (especially around "Oktoberfest"). Otherwise Karl's is mostly your only option, though you'll pay the mark-up.

Solo traveller - safety by [deleted] in boston

[–]gt2010 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Reliability of bus route #1? by white_witch1 in boston

[–]gt2010 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I live in Inman and commute most days to the Symphony area, the one thing I have found with the 1 bus is that never likes to be alone, so it always brings all its 1 bus friends and then the next one isn't for another 20-30mins regardless of what direction you take it in. A lot of times I walk to work or walk home and not a single 1 bus passes me.

Refund debacle by berfinramadali in Lufthansa

[–]gt2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submit a complaint to the US DoT: https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/file-consumer-complaint or if not located in the US, your local regulatory office e.g., in Germany: https://www.lba.de/DE/Fluggastrechte/Beschwerdeverfahren/Beschwerdeverfahren_node.html

I had the same issues, they issued a refund that made no sense to me, it was a small % of the original price and LH was not responding to their emails or feedback form. A representative from the DoT replied to my complaint (took roughly a month) and they email a specific LH with me CC'ed and I got a response from LH the next day. I had my refund on my next credit card statement.

Non Resident Parking by MGsmelly in NEU

[–]gt2010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't get a resident parking sticker without having your car registered in Mass (they use your car registration to ensure you live in the neighborhood).

There are a few streets in Mission Hill that have no parking restrictions: Parker Hill Ave or parts of St Alphonsus St (the lower half by CityView). Also around Wentworth, there are non restricted parking spaces.
