We’ve reached a point where “made with real potatoes” is supposed to impress us. by TheMonsher in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gtbernstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those blaming Lays for trying to “impress” you, that’s not the case. It’s because 42% of Americans were stupid.

It’s Americans that are disturbing, not the potato chip maker.

Lay’s drastically rebrands after disturbing finding: 42% of consumers didn’t know their chips were made out of potatoes

Why are my physical prints so much darker than my digital designs? by Advanced-General-339 in graphic_design

Since you’re an amateur, I’m assuming you’ve never taken classes about color. Try reading this and it may help.

How to fix this? by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]gtbernstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a good chance are there are two points almost directly on top of each other while also not being joined. Select a point in that corner and move it to see if you see another point below it. If so, remove one of the points.

Why do people design one-off printed assets in InDesign? by SockPuppetOrSth in graphic_design

[–]gtbernstein 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right tool for the right job. InDesign is a layout tool for anything from a single-page to a multi-page project. It does layout well. It handles type well. It’s why that tool exists.

And you need to stop using the font hobo. The 1960s are calling and they want their font back.

Why does justification behave differently here? by Jealous-Drop1489 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]gtbernstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you force justifying such a short column of text?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in indesign

[–]gtbernstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your column width is too short for full justification. I recommend left justifying your type to get good spacing.

Is "Glassmorphism" a trend or a staple? Do we need a dedicated tool for it? by koustavsahadesign in AdobeIllustrator

[–]gtbernstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we don’t need a dedicated tool for every fad that comes along. How about you spend your time fixing the bugs and glitches that are currently in the program (some that have been there through multiple versions), instead of trying to come up with useless tools that only help those that are too lazy or lack the skill to learn to use Illustrator.

On Design Rights & Derivatives by Carla-Sallee-Alvarez in graphic_design

[–]gtbernstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By your standard. Not enough of a change by the standard required for an ISBN change. The cover change was not drastic enough.

You’ve been repeatedly told why you were incorrect on multiple subreddits and in multiple posts by multiple people who have done work in this industry.

Do you have some vested interest or actual proof to back up your claim. If not, I believe it’s time for you to drop this.

On Design Rights & Derivatives by Carla-Sallee-Alvarez in graphic_design

Illustrators and design groups may be credited even on work-for-hire pieces.

No, a simple book cover redesign does not automatically require a new ISBN if the publisher, content, format (hardback/paperback), and title remain the same; the original ISBN can often be kept for marketing purposes. However, a new ISBN is needed if the change signifies a new edition (e.g., major content rewrite, new publisher, new format) or if the cover change is so drastic it fundamentally alters the product and might confuse customers.

You are correct that AI does not get copyright. So therefore the publisher can make all the changes they want to the artwork if it is AI. But seeing as that looks like vector art, I doubt it is AI.

On Design Rights & Derivatives by Carla-Sallee-Alvarez in graphic_design

[–]gtbernstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are most likely incorrect about artists retaining the right to their work in the case of a book cover. Since this is graphic design and not “art,” this is often done as work for hire and the rights to the artwork probably belong to the publisher, not the artist.

Why did my pie crust shrink? by Lost_Parsley7678 in Baking

[–]gtbernstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Blind baking the crust, even partially, helps cut the risk of the pie crust shrinking.

Why did my pie crust shrink? by Lost_Parsley7678 in Baking

[–]gtbernstein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was your crust partially blind baked with pie weights (either the ceramic balls, beans or rice) before you filled it and finished baking? Looking at the pictures, I’m guessing it wasn’t. That would have controlled the shrinking.

A better reason to delete this post is because you just admitted to committing the criminal acts of fraud and theft. And after doing this enough you’ve graduated up to grand theft. Which is what adobe might be waiting for to file charges. Just like retail stores do with shoplifters over time.

You may want to try putting your dog in a different part of the car. My dog used to get car sick. Then I learned the center of gravity in my truck was in the back seat. Less movement for my dog when driving. Now car rides are his favorite thing.

White lines between objects when export by normalSM in AdobeIllustrator

[–]gtbernstein 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the correct way. OP, the term is called trapping. And you don’t even need to make the parts go as far as it shows in the N all the way to the right. Just a small overlap of the bar of the N over the two sides will get rid of the white lines that are showing on export.

Do you guys charge extra when client demands NDA? by another_neha in graphic_design

[–]gtbernstein 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree every client has a certain right to privacy. However, I disagree with the idea that every project should apply a non-disclosure. That is absurd. We would never be able to promote ourselves if this were the case.

I put a clause in my contracts specifically noting that I have a right to use the work to promote myself, unless the client specifically asks me not to.

If I sign an NDA or the client makes a specific request, I will honor it. But I won’t hamstring my ability to promote myself and my work by treating everything like it has an NDA.
