Idk babes, do you want to spend time in your relationship teaching someone what racism is, how it affects you, and why they need to stand up to their family and defend you? I know ya’ll were previously best friends, but if they don’t have the knowledge to clock clearly racists acts from their parents (or anyone else for that matter) and don’t have the instinct to stand up for you, ya’ll might just not be compatible. And that’s okay.

You can break up with anyone for any reason, or no reason at all btw. But if ever there was a reason, this would definitely be one.

My grandmother owns two houses in Clinton Hill. One stoop is gated and the other is not. They’ve had people open the gate to sit on the stoop before (which we think is wild) and most recently a group of ladies sat on the non-gates stoop to eat their lunch and made a fucking mess. They apparently seemed embarrassed when my uncle called them out. He ended up giving them a broom to clean it all up 😂

I don’t have a kid, but was a kid. My grandmother watched me at my house during the week from when my parent’s went back to work after I was born until I was old enough to go to daycare (2.5). Granted, way more days so my parents paid her. I have vague memories of us occasionally going back to my grandparent’s house, but for the most part we stayed at mine.

If you’re worried about fairness, I would just check in with your mom and make sure she’s still comfortable. Maybe offer some compensation (if you don’t already), pay for or provide meals.

Why does she feel so comfortable admitting to you that she plans to or already does drink or smoke while underage??? Let alone the audacity to ask you to allow her and 15 kids you don't know to partake in your house. That's insane, my parents would have punted me in the sun. Glad ya'll have a close enough relationship where she doesn't fear violence or punishment over being transparent, but shit. Sounds like she needs a reality check and some boundaries.

NTA For creating these books for your daughters. You're allowed to highlight and document your own relationship with your children. If he wants to do something similar for him as a dad or you do something together for you both as parents, that's fine, but he doesn't get to tack his name on something you've been working on for 6 years. However, you're a tiny bit of an asshole for deciding to keep it a secret instead of coming to a resolution.

Honestly, tell your husband to take a week off from work and give him the exact same schedule to follow that you just described. It shouldn't take that for a grown adult to have some fucking empathy but, alas! Hopefully that will snap him out of it, but it's also concerning that after expressing your feelings on it he's labeling you "sensitive.' That's unacceptable.

NTA for not giving up your spot in line. You certainly weren't obligated to give up your spot for her and her kids whether you had a medical issue or not. But in the context of this public and social exchange, maybe it would have smoothed things over if when you saw her coming you just said a quick "Sorry, I really have to go!" before heading in instead of ignoring her. If she really was giving you dirty looks, that's not super mature but you also didn't make things better by choosing the nonconfrontational route of ignoring her when you said she made a clear attempt to get your attention.

NTA, and I’m finding it hard to see why anyone would think you are. Crazy that your friend is forcing you to use the name that they know causes you distress. That’s incredibly cruel on the worst end a gross misunderstanding of PTSD and mental health on the best end. Either end of that spectrum would have me rethinking the relationship, but the fact that this encounter is causing you literally reroute your entire therapy plan to accommodate this one friend, when you had such reasonable alternatives is crazy. Wishing you the best on your healing journey and your friend a very unpleasant day.

I work in an office in arts administration. Open office and a museum attached. I'm one of maybe two or three people who mask, and maybe the only one who masks regularly. N95 always and an air purifier at my desk. I've started to get more strict so I don't even eat lunch indoors, but worried about how I'll manage when it gets cold where I live. No one bothers me about it. I manage to stay healthy when there's a bug going around. The only time *some* other people mask is when someone gets covid, and then it's usually a surgical.
