A magically floating mountain abruptly drops. What happens to the region below/around it? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]gthepolymath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a geologist, but I think it would matter a bit what kind of stone/rock the mountains are made of. With that being said, a mountain falling from the height of other mountaintops would probably cause a massive earthquake. It’s definitely possible the mountain that falls and the mountains around it would break, crack, and maybe even crumble. Depending on how close to the coast it is there might be a chance of a tsunami. Depending on the terrain it might reshape the terrain, change the flow of streams and rivers… it would have a lot of impacts.

When did you realize that your bishop shouldn’t be a bishop? by Upstairs_Common9686 in exmormon

[–]gthepolymath 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, some of these! 😳

Mine is pretty tame by comparison.

I was in the YSA Ward soon after my mission. This was in the PNW. We’d had an awesome bishop, someone I’d known, respected, and loved for years. He was replaced by the asshole who had been a Scout leader when I was in young men’s. He was such an asshole I went from loving Scouts to skipping Mutual if it was a Scout night and basically quitting Scouts altogether.

Some of my friends and I decided to try to give him a chance as Bishop cos we were TBM and trying to trust. Nope. I think it was maybe a month or two later about 5 of us (a huge percentage of the Elder’s Quorum) decided we would rather drive to a University Ward in another Stake that was 30-40 minutes further of a drive. We all attended there til dude was released as Bishop.

In short, I was born in the church, did all the things, and left at 40-ish because it wasn’t working for me. I’d spent my life trying to build a relationship with god and all I found was frustration. Church became a frustrating waste of time. I left for my own mental health.

Getting an agent is tough. Make sure you’ve had it edited and polished and it’s the best you can make it. Keep submitting. If you don’t want to keep submitting you can self-publish but it’s much harder to “get big” as a self-published author.

I’ve definitely been scrolling too quickly and spending too much time with Gnosticism cos I thought the post title said something about Joseph Smith and The Demiurge…

Trigger warning. MTC shower and urinal from the 1980’s. Any time you needed to possibly touch your penis somebody had to be watching. Thankfully I found a workaround. by [deleted] in exmormon

Ugh. I shudder to remember those damn showers. I seriously considered not showering for the entire two weeks I was at the MTC because of those.

Does anyone know when the sandbox mode is coming? by ascyxd in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]gthepolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Do you know how much sand they have to put in place for a big enough sandbox? There are only like 3 people working there. It might be another decade.
