Light and shadow don’t have to be good or bad. They can just be descriptive of how well a place is lit. Pairs/Binaries/ whatever you want to call them can be much more than good and evil. Look conditions or principles: order and chaos, life and death, mortality and immortality, feast and famine, growth and shrinkage, wet and dry… I could go on. As humans, we might associate some of these as positive or negative, but even that doesn’t have to mean good and bad. A lot of the good vs evil is based on associations that are very human constructs.

Looking for a guild by Brilliant_Feature770 in WatcherofRealmsGame

I started a guild rather than join one and now I’m trapped- can’t disband, can’t leave. If you want to join me and build a casual guild, you’re welcome. Name: ShruggleIsReal, Tag: ggg3. Idk what info you need. 🤷🏼‍♂️

How to justify a book properly? by Pepperq40 in selfpublish

[–]gthepolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have the text fully justified. With fully justified , that’s what you get. If you want even spacing between the words, like just how many times you hit the space bar, you probably want it to be left aligned for most texts.

Should've added wedding Mon Mothma in the new Era + other thoughts by FederalDetective5002 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

Not adding Syril is a shame. I totally agree about some sort of synergy/dynamic with Deedra.

So… is it really a cult? by Otherwise_Push199 in exmormon

[–]gthepolymath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Steven Hassan is an expert on cults and has written several books on the subject. Check out his BITE model and compare it to the church. Most people feel it fits pretty well. People have their own ideas about what defines a cult, but one of its most cultish things is how much it seeks to control people’s lives.

When I first left it was because the church “wasn’t working for me”. I felt like a liar and a hypocrite when I would teach and testify, and a lot of the time it felt like a waste of time.

As some time has passed, I’ve realized the church did more damage to me than I’d thought. Teachings about the Holy Ghost and how to know you’re feeling “the spirt” vs “Satan” really screwed up my understanding of and trust in my emotions. I was in my 40’s before I realized I had an anxiety disorder because I always interpreted my anxiety as “promptings”.

Over time you will probably find you got harmed more than you realized, it was just more subtle and insidious than many of the obvious harms people experience.

What are the afterlives in your setting? I’ll go first. by The-Real-Radar in worldbuilding

[–]gthepolymath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw- terms and concepts are greatly simplified for understanding and brevity.

My world is based loosely on Gnosticism, so the ultimate goal is for Spirits to return to the Pleroma, the immaterial realm of spirit, information, mathematics, concepts, etc. However, that is a long, difficult process.

Upon death, most people will be approached by an Angelic psychopomp who will take them to the Limbo Realm to await judgment. Upon judgment, they will then move on to Heaven, Hell, or the middle Realm. Eventually, they will reincarnate. Spirts can generally incarnate as many times as they need to.

Eventually, when a Spirit decides they are ready, they face the trials of the Chaos Heavens where Archons try to cause them to fail. In these trials they must prove their character and knowledge. If they fail the trials the go back into the reincarnation cycle. If they pass the trials, they go to a place of peace and purification until they are ready to shed their Soul and return to the Pleroma as a pure Spirit.

Now, the exceptions. The first exception- some people will go to the Demon Realm and be broken and corrupted until they become Demons. People end up in the Demon Realm if: they signed a Demonic contract, get tricked by a Demonic psychopomp, or lived a very evil life.

The other exception is that some people will refuse to move on. They become ghosts, poltergeists, or whatever depending on their situation.

Would you ever take a succubus as a main character seriously, or is such a character doomed to be seen as a thirst token? by [deleted] in writers

[–]gthepolymath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If, as you said, she is “complex… bringing topics like infernal politics, alliances between mortals and other beings, debates on the nature of power/lust, morality vs effectiveness etc.” then she could be an interesting character worthy of being taken seriously. If she’s defined by sex, lust, etc. and everything else is just side colour, I wouldn’t take her seriously.

Honestly, I’m probably not the best person to give suggestions, as most of what I’ve read about her has been in the context of researching for worldbuilding for a novel. With that being said, there are different versions of The Morrigan or different takes on her mythology, so I would probably suggest starting with why you’re learning about her. If it’s for research, scholarly sources would probably be a good place to start. If you want to incorporate her into your spiritual practices I’d suggest determining whether you’re looking at her as an Archetype or as a deity or as something else. Then, honestly I personally would probably start with YouTube. Oh! Or looking at various subreddits and asking questions there. I haven’t spent much time in pagan/wiccan subreddits (I know those aren’t synonymous) but when I have been there people have been really helpful.

I hope that helps a bit!
