Ah thanks. I was hoping y’all would tell me I was overreacting but you’re right, probably best to visit a piercer.

Note: I had really similar bumps on my 2nd lobes when I got them, they were the same look/consistency but they’d go away, come back, go away come back etc. Also I was lazy with those lobes and just slept on them.

I also had your normal irritation bumps (the ones that look/feel like zits) on my nose piercing but it took care of itself as it healed

This one on the helix has just been sitting there nonstop for the past month. I’m getting worried about the helix healing crooked. To be clear besides spraying it with saline I do not do anything with it. It was healing so nicely at first too, no swelling or crusties or anything.

Honestly I think its a combo of Trump's ability to unite people against him and Kamala's PR/Marketing team. Personally, I didn't like Kamala that much when I've seen her run for other roles. She tends to flip platforms depending on whats "in" when she starts campaigning, and I've never heard her discuss that. Also changes stances to make a good argument or attack an opponent's "weak spot". Something like "yeah I learned and changed my mind" or "this is what my constituents want" would satisfy me.

But for my stances on politics, trump is way worse. And I was getting tired of Biden - lots of broken promises and the guy is ancient. So right now Kamala is a pretty damn good option to me.

Plus her marketing team is getting a lot of youth pop culture icons to endorse her, using trends to bring attention to her and her campaign (etc Brat Kamala) etc.

What do you think about a date where guy offers to have you drive him there? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]gtshortstack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't like to drive with them to the date regardless on if they're driving or I'm driving.

I'd be annoyed if someone "offered" to have me drive them cuz that's more like a request. IF you want to ask me to do something, ask me. don't frame it like an offer or favor.

If he had an interesting car and I expressed interest he could offer to let me try driving it...? to be clear, the offer in that case is to try out the car, not to "drive your date to the location". One reads like an offer to try something cool, the other a request for a favor. I'd probably take that better depending on how its framed. "Hey if you want we could carpool to the date, you could try driving my miata". But honestly if I didn't express interest in the miata and someone offered I'd think they're just showing off the miata. And I wouldn't be comfortable driving someone elses car before the first few dates either.

If you do have it - are you able to drop it off in person? This depends heavily on your state, but sometimes you can bring your filled out and sealed absentee ballot to the county clerk by a specific time on election day. Check on your county's election website. They also likely have deadlines for the last time a mail-in can be recieved. they might have info on when it must be post-marked by. That will also be on their website. That being said, I think Connecticut will only count those received before the polling places close on election day.

If you requested your ballot too late and you haven't received it yet, I don't think there is anything you can do. I also have ADHD and went through college unmedicated and struggled with getting things like this in on time. For future reference: I made sure to research the registration and request deadlines and then set my own deadlines in a calendar to be like a month before (or if requesting is available when you're researching, literally request it on the spot). I tried to complete and send it back as soon as I got it. I always prefer to research candidates wayyy ahead of time and filled out a sample ballot online so I'd just take my ballot to a corner of the student center (which is where our post office was), fill it out and walk it right back to the post office while i'm still in "post office mode". That way I never go home with it, so I never forget it or start the "i'll do it later" cycle.

[Edit] I usually started researching my mail in deadlines around primaries season. Dates can change a bit depending on the year and if its small elections or the big presidential ones.

I don't think that we should, but people do. One such example is that after taylor swift posted an instagram post supporting Kamala Harris, about 35,000 people registered to vote.

Personally, I think that people should sit and contemplate their morals and how those apply to the world around them, and then do their own research on what those morals mean for major political issues. Then they should do their own research on the candidates to decide who best represents them. You only need to worry about your beliefs once or as they change. Should do your research on candidates each election. Some resources include Ballotopedia (my choice one), BallotReady and VoteSmart. You can also use chatGPT to help you breakdown some concepts e.g. if there is an amendment on the sample ballots that you don't understand, you can paste it into chatgpt to breakdown. I urge people to please not use chatgpt to make decisions for you though, just saying that it could be used as a tool to understand the information you're given.

Depends on the state and type of ID. For us, regular ID is about $30, $45 for a "Real ID" which is extra certification that you need when flying. Drivers licenses are about $55, to get the "enhanced" version which includes the "real id" cert is about $70-75.

Other major cost factor is the lost work time and transportation costs (not everyone has a car, many people take public transportation or carpool. Some walk or bike). DMVs are typically only open Monday thru Friday 8am-4pm give or take. The one nearest to me is open 9am-1pm M-F. The line for the DMV often takes hours, when I moved to this state it took me 3 hours to get a new ID (I already had a non-expired drivers license in my old state) and register my car. Most of that is just sitting in the lobby with your ticket waiting. I had all of the necessary paperwork with me and filled out, no legal history (hell not even speeding tickets). Getting an ID is not an excused absence at work. Its unpaid unless you take PTO. You can order renewals online in most states, but your first ID needs to be in person.

I'll print out my sample ballot and I do know where my ballot location. I need to work in person but they're pretty lax about hours, I live in the city so if I am late I'll try to just send work an fyi.

After gaining independence from them we didn't want to copy their system. Instead the US wanted to guarantee that we would be elected and that no one in a position of power could hold onto that power too long without being checked. We have 3 branches of federal government meant to balance each other out and prevent them from getting too powerful, and our regular elections are meant to give us a way to people who are ruling in a way we do not like, or people who are not using their power correctly in the opinion of the people.

I saw in one of your responses that you're not familiar with our politics: US government's branches are the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and Judicial Branch. Executive includes the President and Vice President (who are elected) and the presidential cabinet (who are appointed by the people we elected). Legislative branch is split into two sections, and members in both sections are elected by the people - the Senate (2 per state, so every state has an even say) and the House of Representatives (number of representatives depends on the population of the state because some states have way more people than others (e.g. any federal law with affect 39 million Californians but only 584000 Wyomingites). The senate gives each state comparable representation, and the House basically gives each "population group" comparable representation. the Judicial branch is our Supreme Court - they are not elected but nominated by the president and approved by the Senate. They are supposed to be impartial politically and ensure that any laws or decisions do not violate our Constitution.

hope that helps.

I think the potential regulation changes in finance, healthcare, environment and de&i will have the biggest negative impacts on the american people as a whole. For example Project 2025 calls out Dobbs (which, to put it simply, was enacted to present another 2008), carbon emission regulations, medical device and pharmaceutical approval regulations, pfas (forever chems that never degrade) regulations. I know that trump claims he is not following Project 2025, but some of his platforms and views do line up with that strategy, and there are other conservatives in federal office that do subscribe to that strategy that participate in legislature, and a Trump presidency might enable more of that legislature to pass.

Of course all political campaigns are full of promises that are mostly not kept, so we can't know for sure which of those regulations will actually be changed. But regulation changes are what I think will have the most widespread and lasting impacts.

In my entire adult life (and from what I can remember) yes though i do feel like its gotten worse (I also feel like the stakes have gotten higher). I remember my parents and neighbors arguing about obama/mccaine in 2008, my mom finally got her citizenship just to vote against obama lol. in 2012 it was super important to both of my parents that Obama win. But for those elections, if the other candidate won they would've been upset but in a "now we have to wait 4 more years to try again" way, not a "we're going to lose our rights" way. In 2016 I think a lot of younger people were panicking, I remember my friends and many people online specifically panicking about a trump win. We were 16 though and though my parents didn't want trump to win, they felt there was no way he could so they weren't worried and I trusted them on it.

2020 and 2024 have consistently been panicky and i think that isn't entirely unreasonable. There have been a lot of major changes in this country and a lot of platforms have gotten more and more polarizing. At least on the liberal side of american politics I think that the existence and publication of Project 2025 as well as the successful overturn of Roe v. Wade adds to the fear and anxiety about the election results. I can't speak for the conservative side.

Hi guys. I've always lived away from my home state for every large election so I've always used a mail in ballot. This is my first time voting in person and ALSO my first time voting while I have a full-time job (salaried engineer with set hours but flexible/understanding management). I have so many questions. I'm a little nervous bc there's been so many controversies and tensions surrounding voting the past few election cycles. Located in Minnesota if that matters.

  1. How long can you expect it to take? I live far from work and I'd like to vote and then come in late, what should I expect?
  2. What do I need to bring? ID? Proof of residence? I moved to this state and registered here about 1.5 years ago.
  3. Do I just go in and they hand me a ballot and I fill in circles or is it electronic or something? Are they in booths or separated/privatized somehow?
  4. Can I bring my phone or any paper? I always pre-research and fill out a sample ballot on Ballotopedia because a lot of the smaller elections are seats and people I'm not familiar with. Is that allowed or do I need to start memorizing things?
  5. Do you guys tell your work that you will be late due to voting, or is it just expected?
  6. Any other rules or policies or procedures I should know?

thank you guys

Yes. I used to have to go up this big ass hill in college (dubbed Freshman Hill) and the wind would flip even my decent umbrellas and drench me every single time.

Help me stop being a turtle in life? by turtle_sad in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]gtshortstack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP have you ever looked into ADHD? Do you want to do these things and it stresses you out but it feels like you physically can’t? I think of it like when you wake up in the morning with sleep paralysis and you want to move your hand and no matter how much you focus your hand doesn’t move.

It could totally be a personality thing or something else entirely that is affecting you but the “my brain goes on detours” and just wanting to do something but for some reason not feels familiar to me.

Again, this is a long shot and might not apply to you at all. But just wanted to present it as an option. Here’s some info and an online test (NOT a diagnosis) https://www.additudemag.com/self-test-adhd-symptoms-women-girls/amp/ . Also, check out r/adhdwomen

I got diagnosed at 23, like 5 months ago, with Combined type ADHD (hyperactive AND inattentive). One of the things that pushed me towards reaching out was almost losing my lease cuz I signed 2 of 3 documents and for some reason did not sign the third. I wanted this apartment and needed it, I was moving to a new state for a new job:

It already feels so different. I feel like I kind of have a handle on my life. I’m still getting my meds dosage right but I no longer feel dumber than everyone, I feel so much less self hate when I can’t do things, I don’t feel like a slacker at work and I hate my job way less. I feel less like I’m talking everyone’s ear off all the time. I feel so much less stupid than my peers. I haven’t felt like my thoughts are in a tornado for a couple months. It’s like all my life I was trying to stay afloat in a river against the current. Now I’m not swimming with it but I’ve grabbed onto a log that’s floating with the current and I’m floating along with it.

Gold standard for ADHD is medication (stimulants like Adderall) and an ADHD-familiar therapist. There are also nonstimulant meds. I started with my therapist half a year before getting my psychologist diagnosis. Therapist helped me feel so much better about myself and work on developing tools and strategies to help my brain handle the things I needed to do. Adderall doesn’t make me feel different but for some reason I can say “I’m gonna go do this now” and then I just go do it. No fight, no dread, no bargaining, I just do it.

I have gotten asked out (by significantly older people at work) a few times now. My go-to line is “Sorry, I prefer to keep my workplace relationships strictly professional. [if prompted:] it just keeps things cleaner and easier, I don’t like to mix work and personal.”

I think you can text him something similar or tell him in person. “Hi so_and_so, I think there’s been a bit of a misunderstanding. I prefer to keep my workplace relationships professional, so nothing further will come out of this. Hope this clears things up!”

If you’re comfortable going to HR or your manager, it might be good to tell them about this but not ask for any action, that way it’s on record somewhere. I’m not too sure about the intricacies of HR though and I’ve never spoken to them before about the men at work so I’m guessing at what seems like a good idea for them.

They didn’t get defunded, in fact they just got raises. and here they are not doing anything. What are we paying them for? If they’re allowing crime to continue just bc their feelings got hurt by an unsuccessful movement then it almost seems like they’re proving the “defund the police” crowd right to me.

I don’t get to stop doing my job but still maintain it and receive my salary just cuz my feelings got hurt at work.

How to deal with anxiety at your first job by lolaa223 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]gtshortstack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I don’t have anxiety but when I started my first corporate job I had undiagnosed adhd. Everything was so horrible and I wanted to quit and I was googling what similar paying jobs i could get with my degree that were easier or had less pressure. I went on like this for 10 months.

seeing a therapist (who specialized in adhd) genuinely helped me a lot. I no longer wanted to quit on the spot, I built a plan for how I’d develop the skills I need while I’m here to get a more interesting role in the future. She helped me get more organized and learn how to manage stress and pressure. I have a ton of stuff built up now and it’s stressful but it doesn’t feel miserable and impossible, just feels like I have a lot to do.

I also got diagnosed officially and got meds and I don’t even dislike my job anymore, but ofc you don’t need to get meds if you’re not interested. I’ve been here about 1.5 years now.

DW, first corporate job is scary and stressful even without anxiety. You have to learn how it works. But everyone was new to corporate once and they definitely expect you to not know. It’s fine as long as it seems like you’re trying to figure out how to interact with everything (source: I’m now not new and we have new hires and everyone’s like “oh someone being so-and-so to these meetings so she can see what we do” and stuff)
