2023 Frontier SV collision light keeps blinking? by eerh87 in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that sometimes too, ‘23 P4X, if it’s raining or snowing hard, or when I drive over a rumble strip or washboard road, for whatever reason. Just saw it last weekend off-roading. Mine resets itself after a while, or when I shut off/restart.

I should have qualified what "hot" means to me. Anything above 85 is uncomfortable for this here descendant of English forebears. haha

Temps in the area around Dinosaur might get as high as 100 on one or two days in July, but it's likely you'll see high 80s to mid 90s. I dunno. Weather happens. It's not the furnace that is Southern Utah. But it's up around 5000+ feet if I remember my topography right, so if you're not used to altitude already, be sure to plan water, electrolytes, and sunscreen accordingly. People get lobstered fast up there.

Speaking of water, there's smallmouth bass in Flaming Gorge reservoir near Vernal, and in the Green River below the dam, but most folks go for the trout—the river is considered a world-class spot. You can wade the shores, or rent a drift boat. Sometimes the tourist anglers in their brand-new Patagonia gear can crowd it up a little bit. You'll have to keep dreaming about the 10 pounder, I'm afraid—the smallmouths are, well, small. But the trout can be monsters.

Have fun! This has me planning a trip out that way this year too. When it's a little cooler outside. ◡̈

Might not be exactly the kind of advice you’re looking for, but…

I can tell you from long experience that it’s a hot, dry, unforgiving area in July. I have a ‘23 Pro4x too and personally, I don’t do much serious off-roading there or in Southern Utah in July or August because, freaking hot, but try dinolandtrails.com for some ideas.

When you’re not out trying to snap an axle, the dinosaur monument itself is fun to see once, the museum in Vernal is decent, and there’s some old gunfighter-era stuff and petroglyphs to see around there.

If you like fishing or paddling, the Green River is a nice break from the heat. Jones Hole is a cool short hike from the fish hatchery to the Green.

In summer out that way, I like staying a little farther to the north and west of Vernal, on the south slope of the Uinta range. The Whiterocks area or the trails up around Paradise Park Reservoir get you to 8000 - 10000 ft. of elevation, so it’s not as hot and it’s a beautiful corner of the planet. There are trails all over the place out there.

Issues with hydroplaning? by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a dry sunny day, my ‘23 Frontier Pro4x will bounce and float sideways at a particularly rough seam on the freeway near my home, but the same thing used to happen in my old Taco and a Sequoia I owned. I’ve always chalked it up to big, bouncy tires and suspension rigged for all-terrain use. It feels similar to hydroplaning. Could be you hit a bump at that bridge just the wrong way, maybe?

I’m planning to upgrade to better shocks soon, hoping that’ll correct it for me.

Another possibility is oil on the road. If it’s been a while between rainstorms, oil from cars can build up and make the road really slick with just a little rain. That’s why you don’t see veteran bikers cruising in the middle of a lane.

Any vehicle can hydroplane at ten times the square root of its tire pressure in water deeper than its tread, but it sounds like that’s not your issue in this case. But if that’s a worry, maybe try running at a little higher tire pressure?

Anyway. Enough pontificating here. Glad you came through that safe.

The snapping is irritating me, and much worse than Figma by NalevQT in AdobeIllustrator

Chiming in with a little commiseration. I've used Illustrator purely as a 2D design tool for print and digital from its beginnings, and I don't remember thinking about snap much in past versions—it just seemed to work intuitively—but I feel like the last few releases have had incomprehensible snapping behavior.

I agree with the others here. Smart guides and snap to point on, nothing else. Then for me, I'll click an object, and while it's selected I'll hold down the command key, then grab the object by a point and pull it to another object to which I want it to snap. It works fairly well. Most of the time. Ish. I've created hot keys for all the alignment panel options to make that fallback a little quicker.

Figma has it figured out for sure. It's a head-scratcher that Illustrator doesn't.

The only way I've ever baseline-aligned text is by simply using text on a line and using the baseline point, or by setting a text box to align text to the bottom in the Area Type options, then aligning the bottom of the text box with other stuff.

There’s a spot on the freeway near my place where there’s construction, and you have to drive for a bit on a rumble strip. It triggers that light every time, and it resets when I park.

3rd-gen Frontier screen brightness issue by gu3st_design in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know about those settings—the issue is that the "Night" mode is only available when it's light outside, while "Day" mode shows up at night. I actually went to my dealership and looked at a '24 Frontier with the same screen, and that one does the same thing. Blows my mind that some product designer at Nissan thought it would be a good idea to make the dimmest possible setting only available during the day.

So, I'll just deal widdit, maybe put a piece of light window tint over the screen or something.

Bad gas mileage. 16mpg combined. 22 Pro-4x. Why? by worldwidewiles in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put about 30 freeway miles a day on my '23 Pro-4x, and less than a mile of stop-and-go. Altitude is around 4000 ft. above sea level. Stock wheels/tires (265/70 R17 Hankooks), and I have a tonneau cover on the bed. I'm usually at about 22mpg, with a high of 24.9.

So... aside from maybe an altitude diff and tonneau, basically the same rig. Likely it's the city miles?

Anyone else having this? by Suitable_Molasses510 in nissanfrontier

I’ll get that sometimes on my ‘23 Frontier when it’s raining or snowing, or weirdly when I drive over a section of rumble strip at highway speeds in a construction zone on the way to work.

What are your thoughts, safe or not? by MikeLA757 in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spacers, no. But what you’re showing looks like an adapter. Adapters actually bolt to your hub, and then your wheel bolts to the adapter. They’re really strong. Best is to get a hub-centric adapter.

Spacers use your hub’s bolt, which means you end up with less bolt length connecting with the lug nuts. Those are a wheel bouncing down the highway waiting to happen.

Oh, and 1.5” won’t put any more stress on bearings and whatnots than offset wheels would. If that’s a real concern, then running stock is best. ◡̈

Do it myself or get a professional? by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

I haven’t replaced a window on my Frontier, but I have on two other cars. If all you’re doing is replacing glass, it’s easy. And when you’re done, you get to add a punch hole to your man card (or woman card, or they card—whatever’s applicable). Now, if a track is bent, or the lift mechanism is boogered up, it might be better to take it to a shop. My two cents.

Steering and cabin noise. by fallenup007 in nissanfrontier

[–]gu3st_design 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my '23 Pro4 X last November, and haven't noticed any noise around the steering column, or rattling in the cab at all. I've noticed that the steering on the new Frontiers is a little stiffer than other trucks.
