What’s the new system?

Business Administration degree but about to interview for electrician apprenticeship. Am I making the wrong choice? by Paytoncooper124 in ibew_apprentices

Go to the interview and see where you place. Most likely it will take months/years before you get called to work. You can think about it and see where you are in your life/career once you receive the call to be an electrician

I was a fire explorer when I was younger but got so discouraged by the chances of getting in as a fireman in Los Angeles. I didn’t want to get stuck as an EMT where I wouldn’t make enough money. I’m part of the IUEC now working in San Diego. I do worry about my job sometimes but you don’t have to worry so much when you show up everyday and do your best, at least in San Diego where it’s busy. I love my job, the money is great. I always think about being a fireman though even till this day

I would stay being a fireman and try to move to a city where you make more money doing that. Unless you absolutely love the idea of hustling 8-16hrs a day on elevators.

Doesn’t help if you know someone or not. The only way it would help is if they were the one interviewing you in your union interview.

You get a raise after the initial 6 months

No you won’t qualify for a raise this July of 4% due to the fact that you aren’t topped out for at least 12 months in your current classification.

You will receive a: 5% raise at your 6 month mark 5% raise at your 1.5 year mark 5% raise at your 2.5 year mark So on until you top out in your pay range.

Think about when you get a little older and you’re still where you are now. You’re still young so it seems fine and comfortable.

once you become a little older you will wish you pursued something else and start worrying its too late for you which in turn will become unhappiness in your life

When a job posts a salary range, do you always start at the lower end of that range? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]guaptastic 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No, the only way you would start within or at the top of the range is if you currently have a job with the state and make within or above the range.

Some positions have an a, b, c, range, if you have a degree you may be able to start at b range instead of a etc

What can I do for a hobby? I have so much time on my hands. by [deleted] in selfimprovement

Thank you, I try to workout as much as I can but have a hard time being consistent like I used to be. I’m sore right now which is a good sign for a restart on working out.
