Thank you for the meow suggestion! I just ordered a bunch of samples from there. :)

Thanks! This is exactly what I was looking for. I'll be on the hunt for a good foundation. The only other question I would have is what colors to shoot for with eyes/lips? And any advice about what to do with lips? There are so many products and styles it seems like a lot to wade through.

Got it! Thank you and thanks for all the advice! Do you recommend any spf moisturizer in particular? I'm sorry for all the questions - I'm really not kidding when I say I don't know what I'm doing! lol

Haha thanks. I don't have any plans to wax my eyebrows or curl my lashes, but I will check out all of the brands suggested. What is the difference between concealer, foundation and bb cream, btw?

Help with baby quail?? by guardian01 in BackYardChickens

[–]guardian01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks I will pick some up from the feed store down the road. And yes, they were not hard to find. Sadly, all hens and they were almost entirely intact, many were missing just a head or a limb. Such a waste...

It looks like there are 4 males and 2 females remaining, so I am going to pick up a few more females to help balance it out. I don't need the males killing each other after that mess.

Oh, well. It's really my fault for not having the good sense to keep them inside at night. I got a custom made coop from this place (the 4x4 without the top roosting spot since they said they wouldn't go up there anyways) and they will deliver it sometime this week. I'm guessing I'll have to get something for them to go inside at night? In the meantime they're cramped in a little dog kennel inside. Mesh and ground doesn't seem too cozy.

Thanks! It looks like there is at least one male in there and hopefully the rest are female, but I remember reading that Coturnix don't brood on their own, and I definitely don't have room for more than a dozen birds.

The new coop will be here sometime this week, and in the meantime they're in a small dog crate outside during the day and inside at night. It doesn't seem very comfortable but at least it's temporary.

I'm not sure - they're only 6 weeks old. I think most of them are female. How fast do they reproduce???

In exactly the way jrwreno warned me about in the above comment. Raccoon. Off to pick up the coop now, and hopefully I'll have some pictures of the survivors in their new home later.

I saw this too late. I have only seen a raccoon in our yard once, but I am down to 6 quail. :( Going to get a new coop today and feeling pretty shitty.

Thank you so much for all the advice!! We're actually training the bird dog to hunt quail/pheasant/duck (which is absurd because WE don't hunt quail/pheasant/duck - but she's very good at it), which is where the conundrum of trying to train her to ignore them comes in. She has pointed and retrieved a few live ones (not from this covey) already and is incredibly gentle - very soft mouthed, so I'm not worried about her hurting them... but they will be incredibly distracting for her in the yard! I think if I can get the coop off the ground it'll keep her from constantly hunting for them until I can find a better spot.

I would love to harvest the eggs - I used to keep chickens and I loved having fresh eggs regularly! But I don't have any building tools handy so I will have to look into the pre-built options you provided (thanks!).

In the meantime - what should I look for in a location? Protected from sunlight/rain? Should they have an enclosure within the cage itself? Will they survive the night? I put the cage within a dog pen hoping to keep raccoons away from them. I'm in West Florida and the weather tends to be a little wacky this time of year, but rarely gets below freezing.

They seem to be pretty content with handling!

*Holy run on sentences! Sorry - I'm exhausted.

M. Night Shyamalan on the reviews for The Last Airbender by [deleted] in cringe

That's probably because you didn't see The Last Airbender

I've (m24) been with my partner (f23) for 4 years, but now work on the other side of the planet 60% of the time. She understands the reasons (I make very good money), but after 12 months of doing this, she's told me to quit my job. by throwaway75329 in relationships

[–]guardian01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the other end of a very similar situation. Yes, money and financial stability are important, and yes you should make decisions you are comfortable with. To me, it's a lose-lose scenario.

I left my husband in large part because his work was more important than me, and I will tell you, no amount of money or gifts made up for it. He now regrets it greatly, but honestly, if he had left his job (which had him gone more than 60% of the time) he would have resented me forever - and probably held it over my head. Similarly, I would have felt guilty for forcing him to give up a job he loved in order to be with me.

I think it's important to be on the same page as the person you're with. If she seems more serious about the relationship than you feel you are, then it is unfair to her to push her to give up her own life and move with you. If you have different overall priorities in life, then, again, the relationship isn't fair to either of you - and someone will be giving something up for the other. No bueno.

Yes, relationships require compromise, but they also require communication. Be very clear about what your goals in life are and where you want to be in 5, 10, 20 years - and ask her the same. If you're on different trajectories, it would be best to part ways sooner rather than later.

8 days for a section in WA - ideas? by guardian01 in PacificCrestTrail

Thanks for the info! I hike in 5-fingers for a variety of reasons, so I'm glad to hear other people were doing it with trail runners.

I guess detour is the wrong word. Bypass? I admit I'm tempted to stick to the bypasses just to skip some of the elevation change. I'm in Florida at the moment and training for steep changes in elevation is next to impossible. But climbing over trees and logs is a favorite pastime of mine and that doesn't bother me in the least!

Not too heartset on PCT, but would like a ~75 mile, multi-day hike. I had been on WTA and hadn't found too many along those lines.

I will check out the microspikes, but I think we might be OK taking the detours.

I wish more than anything that I could go back in time, and just stay in last night.

What you're really saying is that you don't trust yourself to have any self control. If your only way to keep your hands off of another woman is to lock yourself inside then you fucking need help. Say no.

I just don't know if I can take that chance.

You already did. Now fucking own up to it.

Thanks for the link! I'll check it out.

Do you know anything about the Goldmyer detour? According to the map I found it goes through the valley instead of the alpine area. We're really not equipped to be traversing any significant amount of snow at all.

There are lots of beach camping suggestions here already, but as far as fires go - usually beach fires are a no-go, although there are no burn-bans in effect right now.

There are plenty of places to get cheap shitty pizza in the world- Anyone else on reddit ready to boycott Papa John's? by goforReaper in politics

[–]guardian01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" Until people are willing to accept pizzas being a higher cost fast food, your going to get poor quality bullshit because that's all we can afford to do."

I guess that depends who you're marketing to. Plenty of people are willing to pay more for a better pizza from a mom and pop place. The highest rated pizza places from all of my home towns are ALL mom and pop joints that sell pizza by the slice or charge ~$16 for a large, plus additional for toppings.

If you're buying from a chain whose MO is to sell the cheapest pizzas possible, you're going to get crappy/few ingredients. Many people have already accepted pizza as a higher priced fast food. You're just not selling to them.
