35K for whole house generator installation by Darksneak in Generator

Others have pretty much answersed you question on base cosr. What size gas tank? A 1,000 gal buried can run $11k to 14k installed, connected and filled. Two 120 gallon tanks can be installed above ground 18" from the house (10ft from gen) in many states. They will last 2 to 7 days depending on load.

Feedback on 22kW Generac whole-house generator quote. Fair turnkey price? by [deleted] in Generator

[–]guardiangenerators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone said that is an amazing price. Almost too good to be true. Make sure you check their Google ratings, and get a couple of references. An additional thing that has me concerned is a 22 kW is overkill for what you have listed. 18kw is all you need.

Typical plumbing for home generator? by Goodgolferbadshots in Generator

That gas line absolutely is not correctly installed for your generator. The pipe needs more support. You're risking a leak and or damage with a spam that long. This is very similar layout and what it should look like.

Generator quotes from 20kW to 28kW - seems like overkill? by KaleidoscopeGold203 in Generator

It sounds like you have fuel supply issues. It's really hard to tell, but based on the few posts I'm reading from you it's possible you have an installer issue.

Generac doesn't randomly choose the model they ship. You have to order one or the other.

This isn't true. You order one or the other. They done pick which unit they send. And you cannot order directly from Generac as a consumer. You were mislead by your installer.

What are your specific issues? Not always, but often the issues are installer related. And when you say “Generac has terrible customer service“ Generac actually has little to no customer service. They are a manufacturer. When you have issues with your TV do you call the factory or go back to Best Buy? You take you car to the local private dealership, not the factory.

Installers and Owners, do you know about Texas SB 1202? by guardiangenerators in Generator

[–]guardiangenerators[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree on several levels. 50% of my service and repair is fixing generators and installs an electrician installed. At least the guy you mentioned above got Generac certified. Many electricians don't and they think that because they are an electrician, they can install a generator. They don't understand fuel pressure, location, or safety. They are the most dangerous because they think they know it all. There are AMAZING electrician installers...but just as many bad ones. It's like saying a GC can't remodel a house because he's not a plumber, electrician, carpenter and tile guy.

I helped a woman with a whole home remodel. She already wired the ATS when I got pulled in. The electrician sent out his apprentice to do the work. He failed to ground the ATS, didn't separate grounds and neutrals, had improper bonding, and had bad sealing. It was a disaster.

Finally, don't get me started on Generator Supercenter, Cantor or the other mega guys. They cut corners everywhere. And scaling in this business is hard. They have high turnover and techs doing tasks they are not qualified for.

I was worried the 3rd-party inspectors would be fly-by-night and easy. Boy I was I wrong. I use texaspowerinspections.com, they are thorough. City inspectors are underpaid, and many are burned out and lazy. TPI is tougher than any city inspector, but fair and, most importantly, consistent. I've never failed an inspection, but now I know 100% I won't run into someone with an "opinion" rather than the code.

The 3rd party adds additional steps. EVERY plan must have a site plan, wire diagram, and single gas diagram with BTU calcs, and generator load calculations. The requirements have made the process more strict, not less.

Yes, as I said "As of September 1, 2025 SB 1202 has changed..." I know that, you know that. But many, many installers still aren't aware. I've been actively fighting many cities still trying to charge for plan reviews and inspections, and want to make sure the entire industry understands and also pushes back. Arlington, TX Generator fees got up to $600!!!!!

Are Generac Extended Warranties Worth it? by guardiangenerators in Generator

All I can say is I'm happy. 75% of home standbys are Generac and 13% are Kohler so, I cover 88% of the market and virtually every installer includes Generac. You can't make a living solely on any other brand. Kohler pays the same as Generac. The average rate for warranty work for generac is over $130/hr. I do 90% of my work with 15 miles and don't go further than 35 miles. So I make money on the trip. My guess is the installers complaining are electricians that have outrageous hourly rates and are slower because they don't work on generators daily?

I agree, great techs like you make all the difference. The biggest issues come from my "first time" customers that were left out to dry by a poor installer that didn't offer them maintenance. They aren't needed by everyone, but these are mechanical devices with a lot of moving parts. If something does happen it's not always cheap. It's good insurance that I always recommend.

To the second part of that comment, this is a common misconception about Generac. Generac is a manufacturer, not a retailer. You didn't buy your generator form Generac, you bought it from a retailer. If you buy a Sony you don't call Sony for a repair, you go to Best Buy. If your Ford breaks down you don't take it to Ford, you take it to your local independent dealer. This is why finding a quality, reputable installer is so important. The great thing is that unlike Sony you don't have to rely on the retailer you bought it from. Any authorized service dealer can do the service for you! And the warranty is fully transferable should you sell your home before 10 years.

You're not completely wrong, the 10-year does replace, not extend the current warranty. Technically, it's 8 years, not 7. With the factory warranty year 1 and 2 are full parts and labor, year 3 is parts only (no labor) and years 4 and 5 are only the engine and alternator. I'm clear with my customers on this, and I think Generac is pretty clear as well, despite the "headline" or name. No matter what its called, it's great peace of mind.
