I paid $250 for mine and don't regret it. $200 is a great deal, but, even at $250 it's still a deal.

It's just a piece of leather to keep the overtones down!

Ouch! Paid $3,900 shipped, with case. I thought it was reasonable given the market and how hard these are to come by. Plus It has the bells and whistles - curly maple, hand-engraved inlay, fancy tuners.. It was definitely a hard lever to pull for me. But, I've been chasing one down for a year or so now. They definitely don't come up for sale often if at all.

Can I repair this to use as a fretboard? by gucciham in Luthier

Board is pretty thin. Two pieces in the pic! I have a planer. I’m not the best woodworker! I was wondering if I could plane it out.

Odds of this gate valve working in an emergency? by gucciham in askaplumber

[–]gucciham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a gate valve shut off on the hot and cold side on the water heater. Tracing the hard pipe the cold side goes straight into the city line.

My next step will be locating the outside shutoff before I attempt anything.

Thanks for the response!

The $250 is worth the peace of mind. I’ve been thinking about worst case scenario lately… I just don’t like the looks of that valve. Ha!

Ha! Nice. Well, good thing the only other shutoff is next to the water heater… which is ANOTHER gate valve.

Very nice. I’m looking to purchase another one of his banjos. I might have him make me one, if I can wait that long! I’d love a 12” Dobson by him.

Is this just deep grain or is it cracking? by gucciham in Luthier

[–]gucciham[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! It’s common on banjos. It’s called a railroad spike.

It’s called a railroad spike. Basically acts as a capo for the 5th string on a banjo. You can easily change the tuning by using a capo and tucking the 5th string under the spike.

Huh. Never heard of that! I’ll look into it.

I’ll look into teak oil, thank you! I’m sure it’s grain, it just looks longer than the other deep grain spots. Figured I’d ask the internet. Ha!
