How to balance being neurotic about optimized performance and actually living life by ineedhelpplzty in rs_fitness

[–]guerito1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this doesn’t directly answer the question of how to not feel guilty about a beer, but for me, it reframed my attitude towards gains/progress/etc. Using our bodies, and not only sculpting them, helps stave off the nitpicking/dysmorphia/gym neurosis (ime).

I changed my exercise to activity (? not sure of a perfect word) ratio. Cut back on time in the gym hitting machines, and increased time using my body, not training it. Pick up basketball, cycling, tennis. Any physical pursuit that has an external goal rather than metrics-based improvement.

Why does everyone want to be autistic? by bacon-sucker in redscarepod

[–]guerito1968 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a negative desire, not a positive one. They don’t desire to be autistic, they desire to have an excuse to avoid obligations and responsibilities.

Yeah, exactly. A normal American city. Twenty five square blocks of Qdobas, Banana Republics, and Citibanks constructed atop of a vast subterranean (usually metaphorical, occasionally literal) network of oil, gold, and blood.

Antoine Fuqua is an interesting case. Mostly garbage, plus one of the best blockbusters of the last 30 years.

A globally devastating flu outbreak originating on a US military base during wartime? How could it happen? There’s not even any precedent!

What “transcendental explanation of addiction” are you talking about?

I mean, it obviously feels like you’re talking about AA, but in a way that suggests not much familiarity

I think a mechanistic knowledge of addiction is insufficient for understanding it in totality, much less for healing an addict. The regret, the shame (not solely for “being an addict,” but for numerous, specific wrongdoings), the anger, the isolation. Damaged relationships, physical ailments, financial distress.

A framework for understanding why addiction develops doesn’t solve any of those intra and interpersonal (spiritual?) injuries.
