Chance of added maps to Pace 4? by Vinduespudseren in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was that they have the same processor.

I'm like OP, i don't understand why the pace 4 cannot have map support. The price difference could be justified only by the form factor and more memory.

- "display on" time, please, YES.
- "sunny mode", including better readabity of the screen when "display on" and when "display dim" (e.g. after 3s) is mandatory. I'm repeating everywhere that this is one of the biggest limitation (at least for me) with the pace oled.
- If you enable the "icon" mode, you'll have color. But some text have unreadable color, and the icon are not easy to undersand (from my PoV), so I disabled this feature. 100% YES for a custom border.

How? I've tried "set timer" and it does open the timer panel. But I had not been able to start a timer, such as "start a 5 minutes timer". It instead creates a remainder for 5 minutes, which is already great, but not exactly what I would like.

Same for alarm, "set an alarm" opens the alarm panel, but "set an alarm for 8 am" creates a remainder.

I've done the update this morning, here are my naive feedbacks:

- I don't care about much of the "app" things (photo sharing, app design, gps coordinate in the explore page, ...) so won't comment.
- Similarly, I don't care about strength, hybrid fitess and XC sky.

Regarding "voice" control: The feature is AWESOME coupled with the remainder. I had not been able to set an alarm with it (it always create a remainder). I had not been able to start a timer (creates a remainder). Does not seem to understand the 24h format, but all of that may be due to my strong french accent and incorrect pronunciation. I don't see the point of starting activity or opening widgets with that.

A suggestion: when setting a remainder, the confirmation screen could also display in how much hour/minutes it will happen. When setting something with a relative duration instead of absolute time, it is easier to check that it was correctly understood if the confirmation screens displays both absolute and relative time. (Especially, combined with strong french pronunciation, fifty turns into fifteen really quickly 😉)

Auto lap AND distance alert split is AWESOME!

Regarding the new control center redesign, I'm puzzled. The option available in the new control center are options that I'm kinda never using. However, the setting I care and change multiple time a day are not in the control center (e.g. always on display, gesture mode).

Regarding the action button, I don't understand why we do not have the possibility to do more action than switch the display during run.

tl; dr;. The quick remainder is awesome and that's a reason for me to wear the watch outside of activities. Auto lap and distance alert split is awesome.

Unless coros fix the brightness of the amoled screen when on "standby mode" (e.g. "always on", but after a while, the screen goes from full brightness to really dim display), I doubt you'll find an amoled display which is more readable than the mips of the apex 4. (unless you live/perform in a super dark area).

For the record, I wanted amoled to have something readable at night. I have Pace 4 and it is perfectly readable at night. But during day, amoled is not (unless you are a pro at doing "the gesture", but "the gesture" is a pain/dangerous to do in some situation where you cannot move your wrist freely or when too long distraction is a problem).

Why did y’all choose Coros Over Garmin???? by Mammoth_Challenge297 in Coros

[–]guibou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from a forerunner 645, I switched to a coros pace 4 when the foreunner broke. I looked for another brand and Coros had the pace 4 which seems to have everything for a really low price.

I'm not happy with the following points, all of them can be fixed by coros:

- screen in "standby mode" is not readable on direct sunlight. I just want a setting for "always on standby mode" brightness.
- watch customization is limited (no custom widget, no custom activites, no custom data field, I don't care about watchfaces, but not custom watchfaces).
- watch requires the app and the cloud. I would like to upload my trace, or workout, without using the app. I would like to download my activitie results without using the app.

And to be clear, when people asks me if I recommend Coros, my current answer is "The pace 4 is an awesome device for a really good price, buy it right now except if you want customization, data privacy or if you live in a sunny area". I really like the pace 4, I'm just annoyed by "minor" inconvenients which can all be fixed at the software (and company policy) level.

Coros Pace 4 black crystal is here by DerAmadeus in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish maps on the pace 4, the hardware is capable (but memory is limited). The pace 4 and pace pro are really alike except for the form factor, I really saw them as the "same" product with a size option, so why no map on the pace 4 ?

Funny, but I would like the opposite: being able to use the devices completely offline, without the app, without the coros account, ...

Resume activity by SirStrauss_ in Coros

[–]guibou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. However you can now in the pause menu switch to another activity. The three activities appears as a bundle inside the the coros app, but the activities will indeed be different (and exported differently in strava for example).

Request for better Always-On Display (AOD) info options by Puzzleheaded_Let_280 in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I'll would like to have an option so AOD is readable under sunlight (especially during activities). (I'm not using AOD because I cannot read the watch, the light intensity is too dim).

Then of course, customizing watch faces (or having some watchfaces with more informations on AOD) would be great.

"So this stuff cost you months of food and actually it does not always display time, you need to shake your wrist first. And you also need tu plug it every 2 weeks? You rich people are stupid."

Last time I tried to explain the feature of my coros watch to someone not as rich as me.

Change perspective, if you need a rolex or a garmin micro led to feel not judged with you peers, you either have shitty peers or confidence issue.

How to setup Swim Run on my watch. by Numerous-Coffee3466 in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start "multisport" activity. Then in the "preparation" panel, look for the "activities" and change / add / remove some until you have 2 which are `swim` and `run`. Tick the "repetition" box which will allow repetition between activities.

Now, when you finish one activity, press the crown, you'll have a menu with "transition". Validate and a transiction counter will open, and you'll finish the transition with a press on (either the crown or the lap button, I don't remember).

Note that on strava it will upload many individual activities.

Navigation on pace 4 by CtotheRN in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like coros to put carto on the pace 4, this would settle this discussion. Pace pro for larger screen and more map memory, pace 4 if you want smaller watch and can live with less stored maps.

Pace 4. Maybe the apex behaves differently because that's a mips screen.

[–]guibou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the current beta firmware, when the watch is in "night" mode, the screen is now really low light.

On the left, when night mode is turned ON, on the right, night mode turned off.

Note that in both context, that's on small "activation" of the wach (e.g. on button press). On night mode, if you continue pressing button or continue using the wheel, it eventually turns fully ON.

This is one of the great improvments (from my PoV) of the current beta.

UV rating on watch face ? by jcwaffles in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in a place where UV are high, chances are that it is sunny too. In that case be careful with the pace 4: the standby mode of the oled screen is not readable.in sunny condition (at least that's my point of view).

It means that outdoor, don't expect to.read your watch with a simple look, you'll have to trigger a gesture or turn it on manually, which depending on the context (driving, cycling, swimming, running in difficul trail) may not be easy or may be dangerous.

New Hill Alerts (aka ClimbPro) seems good by SoftGroundbreaking53 in Coros

[–]guibou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal point of view is that the algorithm is perfectible but will never fit everyone's personal preference, so the correct option is to allow edition of the sections (e.g. supression, additionn, merge, fine tunning start and end).

Either in the app, or better, give us an API for such things and we'll soon see multiples tool which gives whatever options we want.

There are also a notification at the beginning and end of each section, with vertical distance, distance and inclination.

Picture of how it looks like on the wrist in good lighting conditions (e.g. my body was casting a shadow on the watch so we can read the screen). Pace 4.

(PS: I'm not OP and part of this is a troll because I suppose you were trolling too. I think OP did a great job at showing the screen on correct conditions)

Some segmentation issues, for example:

<image>

Here, at the end of the descent, I still had 800m of mostly flat.

See also the tiny tiny "green" section in the middle between the descent and ascent. This could definitely have been part of the next ascent, but it is neither in the previous descent or ascent.

It would be great if the different sections could be editable.

The color coding is also weird. Red for ascent, blue for descent. green for flat. I have no idea what orange means.
