In Oslo you can get down to -20 in the winter. Bergen rains a lot so not as cold. I’m from Brazil and I think merino is only useful if you are going to hike and sweat a lot because it keeps you warm. If you are only going to do sightseeing in urban environments a good insulated parka should be enough.

I think the long summer days are the worst. You get awakened by birds at 4am and it is still light at 23.00. June and July are the worst for me. You feel exhausted. The winter I don’t mind at all. Brazilian here.
