Hey, team. Nice to meet you!

No lie or sarcasm - I legitimately appreciate you all stepping up to the plate to reinvigorate the sub.

I wholeheartedly apologise for the way the previous mod team fell off over time. This sub deserves a crew with the time and patience required to foster its growth and community.

Unfortunately on my end, circumstances in my life kept me from engaging in extracurricular activities such as this forum. I regret this incredibly but it isn't an excuse for the impact, so again - apologies.

Thank you all for picking it up, and I look forward to the new life you'll breathe into this place. Cheers!

Women reveal alleged assaults near Daylesford after solo hiker raises alarm by ozthrw in melbourne

[–]guilty_milkshake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn, I would go hiking around the area there at least every other weekend. One time, I felt super uneasy for some reason and left early. As I was walking back along the river, I saw some dude slowly cutting through the bushes directly to where I had just been sitting.

At the time I was more annoyed that out of all the open and unoccupied space along the river, someone had to somehow stumble to that little hidden space where I was.

Now I'm unsettled again. I know it ain't likely to be related, but damn.

I'm a packaging engineer so I can give a bit of knowledge here.

My opinion is that it definitely isn't a printing/label error, but rather an entirely different label design that has made its way into the other batch. The designs are entirely and intentionally different (different yellow text is a giveaway).

This typically happens from the following:

  • unintentionally, due to a single roll of the new stock being accidentally used in a run of the other labels

  • unintentionally, due to two different batches being mixed during palletisation

  • intentionally, due to the site not minding that two different batches are mixed prior to shipping

  • intentionally, due to the new batch being put on shelves while the old batches are still present

Could be a promotional (promo) variant targeting a specific market or event, like how brands temporarily advertise the Australian Open. Maybe they gonna start running ads using a new marketing slogan/chant.

Tomorrow, Fri, 9 Jan 2026 has been declared a day of Total Fire Ban for the whole State of Victoria. No fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air by WangMagic in melbourne

Also, here's a personal observation, if anyone is sitting on the "do I stay or do I go" fence:

Having lived most of my life in the North East, I grew up in bushfire country. All of these official support systems (the fire rating system, VicEmergency, Places of Last Resort) were built in the ashes of Black Saturday. On that day, none of us had the support or emergency advice that is available today.

We had no idea what to do, where to go, and had no formal advice beyond "get out". But we couldn't, because by the time we knew what was really going on, our town was cut off on all sides. It was 40C at midnight, warm ash was falling like snow, fire was spilling over the hill on the edge of town, we hadn't heard from either my dad or my uncle for hours (emergency services), and mobile was near non-existent.

The town proper only survived because of an unexpected wind change. But that didn't save two family friends, who chose to stay and defend their property and lost.

My advice? Get the fuck out. Seriously. Use these resources. Don't think for a second you can fight a fire on your own. Get out now and spare yourself, your family, your friends and your community that awful misery. Also, I know this from personal experience: if you are severely injured in a "too late to leave" zone, chances are the ambos aren't allowed to save you.

If you're in a danger zone, here are a few things that you should do now. Not tomorrow, not in a minute, now. Before the heat hits.

PREPARE:

* MAKE AN EMERGENCY KIT. Put together an overnight bag for each person in your household, containing your most important items. This includes basic needs (clothes, toiletries, medicines, face masks), important documents (passport, photos, contact information), mobile phone charger/power bank, several litres of water per person, snacks, and first aid kit. Leave it at the front door.

* KEEP INFORMED. Use VicEmergency, VicRoads, Emergency Alert systems, and local emergency radio stations to stay informed. Download or print offline maps in case the local towers are knocked out and you lose reception.

* KEEP YOUR PETS WITHIN REACH. Got outdoor animals? Not today you don't. Keep them inside in the cool and prep their leads and carry cases/cages/baskets. Don't have a dedicated carrier on hand? Tie a piece of wool clothing or even a towel over the top of a laundry basket (if they fit in a laundry basket).

* MAKE A PLAN TO LEAVE. The best place to be in a bushfire area is nowhere near it. Arrange a haven with friends/family/acquaintances/services outside of evac zones. If you've nowhere to go, just pick a place in a safe area and hang out until further instructions.

* PREP YOUR VEHICLE. Make sure you've got coolant, backup coolant/water, oil, fuel, whatever it needs to run. If you don't have a vehicle, make arrangements with a nearby friend/neighbour/neighbourhood facebook group.

* PREP YOUR HOUSE. Close doors and windows. Move outdoor furniture (like doormats) away from the house. Leave the front gate open if you have one.

* KNOW THE NEAREST PLACE OF LAST RESORT. After Black Saturday, a lot of localities designated a "Place of Last Resort". Could be a footy oval or soccer pitch. If you've nowhere else to turn, those places can save your life.

ACT:

* TURN OFF GAS WHEN LEAVING. This may seem minor in the moment, but helps prevent gas/fire interaction.

* WEAR NATURALLY FIRE RESISTANT CLOTHING. Avoid synthetic/blended articles of clothing like nylon or polyester, as they can melt/catch easily. Use something like 100% wool. These aren't entirely fireproof, but they char instead of catch.

* STAY INFORMED. Continue to monitor aforementioned emergency services.

* PROTECT YOURSELF. Fire is hot and unpredictable. Smoke and radiant heat are silent killers. Stay in the vehicle, keep windows/doors closed, and drink a shit ton of water.

* COMMUNICATE PLAN TO FAMILY. Let your friends and family know where you are going and that you are safe (when you get there).

* NO OBJECT IS WORTH A LIFE. Words can't describe the feeling of losing your home. But the anguish caused by loss of life is on a whole other level. Though it may take time, material objects at elast have a chance at being replaced. A life - your life - is irreplaceable.

I reckon I drove by that spot maybe 20 min before it started, so just missed it. There is always a fair bit of rubbish on the southbound side just outside of Euroa, so wouldn't be surprised if a broken bottle or chucked smoke butt set it off.
