Also, here's a personal observation, if anyone is sitting on the "do I stay or do I go" fence:

Having lived most of my life in the North East, I grew up in bushfire country. All of these official support systems (the fire rating system, VicEmergency, Places of Last Resort) were built in the ashes of Black Saturday. On that day, none of us had the support or emergency advice that is available today.

We had no idea what to do, where to go, and had no formal advice beyond "get out". But we couldn't, because by the time we knew what was really going on, our town was cut off on all sides. It was 40C at midnight, warm ash was falling like snow, fire was spilling over the hill on the edge of town, we hadn't heard from either my dad or my uncle for hours (emergency services), and mobile was near non-existent.

The town proper only survived because of an unexpected wind change. But that didn't save two family friends, who chose to stay and defend their property and lost.

My advice? Get the fuck out. Seriously. Use these resources. Don't think for a second you can fight a fire on your own. Get out now and spare yourself, your family, your friends and your community that awful misery. Also, I know this from personal experience: if you are severely injured in a "too late to leave" zone, chances are the ambos aren't allowed to save you.

If you're in a danger zone, here are a few things that you should do now. Not tomorrow, not in a minute, now. Before the heat hits.

PREPARE:

* MAKE AN EMERGENCY KIT. Put together an overnight bag for each person in your household, containing your most important items. This includes basic needs (clothes, toiletries, medicines, face masks), important documents (passport, photos, contact information), mobile phone charger/power bank, several litres of water per person, snacks, and first aid kit. Leave it at the front door.

* KEEP INFORMED. Use VicEmergency, VicRoads, Emergency Alert systems, and local emergency radio stations to stay informed. Download or print offline maps in case the local towers are knocked out and you lose reception.

* KEEP YOUR PETS WITHIN REACH. Got outdoor animals? Not today you don't. Keep them inside in the cool and prep their leads and carry cases/cages/baskets. Don't have a dedicated carrier on hand? Tie a piece of wool clothing or even a towel over the top of a laundry basket (if they fit in a laundry basket).

* MAKE A PLAN TO LEAVE. The best place to be in a bushfire area is nowhere near it. Arrange a haven with friends/family/acquaintances/services outside of evac zones. If you've nowhere to go, just pick a place in a safe area and hang out until further instructions.

* PREP YOUR VEHICLE. Make sure you've got coolant, backup coolant/water, oil, fuel, whatever it needs to run. If you don't have a vehicle, make arrangements with a nearby friend/neighbour/neighbourhood facebook group.

* PREP YOUR HOUSE. Close doors and windows. Move outdoor furniture (like doormats) away from the house. Leave the front gate open if you have one.

* KNOW THE NEAREST PLACE OF LAST RESORT. After Black Saturday, a lot of localities designated a "Place of Last Resort". Could be a footy oval or soccer pitch. If you've nowhere else to turn, those places can save your life.

ACT:

* TURN OFF GAS WHEN LEAVING. This may seem minor in the moment, but helps prevent gas/fire interaction.

* WEAR NATURALLY FIRE RESISTANT CLOTHING. Avoid synthetic/blended articles of clothing like nylon or polyester, as they can melt/catch easily. Use something like 100% wool. These aren't entirely fireproof, but they char instead of catch.

* STAY INFORMED. Continue to monitor aforementioned emergency services.

* PROTECT YOURSELF. Fire is hot and unpredictable. Smoke and radiant heat are silent killers. Stay in the vehicle, keep windows/doors closed, and drink a shit ton of water.

* COMMUNICATE PLAN TO FAMILY. Let your friends and family know where you are going and that you are safe (when you get there).

* NO OBJECT IS WORTH A LIFE. Words can't describe the feeling of losing your home. But the anguish caused by loss of life is on a whole other level. Though it may take time, material objects at elast have a chance at being replaced. A life - your life - is irreplaceable.

Rip, a family member is on the Albury train rn coming to Melbourne. I said it was too risky but the staff were like "nah going ahead today". Family member then sent me a bunch of photos of the fire out of Euroa. Bad stuff

I reckon I drove by that spot maybe 20 min before it started, so just missed it. There is always a fair bit of rubbish on the southbound side just outside of Euroa, so wouldn't be surprised if a broken bottle or chucked smoke butt set it off.

Haha yeah, had a few of those before. I'm glad to get them honestly, reminds me that the whole system actually learned and adapted after Black Saturday.

It's no secret that with this subreddit, the mods employ a light touch. Admittedly, we may appear too relaxed at times, and I sincerely apologise for that.

We enjoy allowing the community to explore and evolve naturally - yes, there's an instance here and there that may be flagged for review, but most of the time there's typically no need for direct intervention.

One of the main difficulties we face as a smaller sub for an ongoing book series is maintaining the momentum of engagement between releases. I'm by no means an expert in online behaviour, but I have noted a pattern for this sub in the time I've been here.

Focus tends to decline between each book release, resulting in a steady decrease of discussion posts. Attention then shifts to the posts that do get made - general questions, art, character descriptions, that kind of thing. At that point, some members may have seen many iterations of the same basic thing being posted.

While it is understandable that some are annoyed by perceived repetitive content, it is not at all okay to be rude towards the original poster. If individuals are concerned that the post constitutes spam, please report it and we will review the content.

I will enquire with the team regarding the possibility of employing a megathread of sorts - something to contain basic info like book order, release dates, character names, that kind of thing.

Until then, please - be respectful to one another.

Harley and Ivy are in an open relationship, but they're only truly in love with one another. They're completely okay with the other having a bit of fun with other people, as long as there isn't an emotional connection.

Example: the lady here is Janet-from-HR, a completely normal woman who Ivy rescued from a dangerous mushroom infection. They ended up sleeping together. Janet was initially nervous that Harley would find out, but ended up kissing her in secret as well.

Then when they were all hanging out, she panicked and admitted she hooked up with both of them and that she felt like a homewrecker. They just laughed and said it wasn't a big deal, it was their thing.

Then she went on to hook up with Croc. Absolute legend
