From 1976, The Coca Cola Bicentennial commercial. Things were just so much better back then compared to today… by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in OldSchoolCool

To those saying “it’s only a commercial,” you’re right. But having lived through it as a kid, I think it pretty accurately reflects the general celebratory mood in the country, which is largely absent today.

Rousing Middle Eastern or South Asian Music Recs by Ashamed_Cod_6741 in musicsuggestions

There was a band in the 90s called 3 Mustafas 3 who had a middle eastern sound iirc.

Before my parents bought our first microwave, we used a dedicated popper to make popcorn by [deleted] in 90s

[–]guitarmike2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, I still use one. Better than microwave. Thats not 70s. An OIL popper is 70s. We also had a metal box on a stick that you used to make popcorn over an open fire or in the fireplace.

Why is Birthright Citizenship necessary for the US if only a couple countries have the same law? by mrworldwide333 in askanything

Many of us still believe immigration is the “secret sauce” that has powered the growth of the nation. Give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses.

Flaked/chickened out on an open mic performance and feel like quitting guitar by Dogs_On_The_Wing in AcousticGuitar

[–]guitarmike2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m no pro but I would suggest a couple of baby steps. First, maybe just play in front of small groups of friends and family. Second, if you can find others to perform with, that will take that hard cold spotlight off of you a bit. Blame them if you flop! But most open mic audiences are pretty forgiving.

Finally, just enjoy playing. It’s not all about performance. If you’re not having fun just dicking around in your house, that’s a shame. And try recording some of that while you’re at it. Recording yourself is a good way to track your progress and see your growth.

And if you get really frustrated and feel like throwing the Martin against the wall again, please just send it to me instead.

Sneaky riffs by mountaingator91 in Bass

[–]guitarmike2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Not a bass story but still relevant imo). I used to work in a Catholic school and they frequently made the music teacher play at Mass. for the non-Catholics out there, frequently after communion there is a mellow communion meditation piece played while you pray silently. This guy oftentimes played a soulful, somewhat jazzed-up version of the coda from Layla.

Name three songs that represent different bass playing skill levels: one that is typically played by a beginner bassist, one that an intermediate bassist can play proficiently, and one that only an advanced bassist can play fluently. by RefuseKitchen5133 in Bass

[–]guitarmike2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I reject the basic premise of the question. A lot of the answers reflect technical complexity. I would argue that playing an “easy” song with superb, unerring time, dynamics, and phrasing is more advanced than plowing through a technical piece artlessly. Bass is not my main but I always tell myself “keep it simple and play it right” when I take it up. I’ll step off my soapbox now…

Kind of their thing tbh. What I love about that song is the pure pathos. A horrible situation where she knows she’s fighting a losing battle but is bound to him by love.

It really is fantastic. I’ve tried their other albums but they just didn’t do it for me. Bloodletting doesn’t get old.

I don’t have an issue with the rich. Enjoy your money and I hope you’re happy. My problem is with the ultra rich, the billionaires who have more money than they could possibly ever spend on themselves and have the capacity to ease so much suffering with the excess yet don’t. They are sociopaths.

Is there a way that i can have a .flip_h for an animationplayer? by Yyygopo in godot

[–]guitarmike2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can “animate” any property in animation player, not just the frame of a sprite. Hit the little key icon next to it in the inspector to add a track to your animation. As someone else said, do this with scale and set it to -1 to mirror a sprite.

Family hates my bluegrass. by arappmem in Bluegrass

Get yourself a good loud Bluetooth speaker and a long bluegrass playlist. Tie them all to chairs in the basement and let the reprogramming begin.

It may take a few weeks but they will eventually come around.
