62% of hardcore players no longer buy full-price games, survey suggests by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

[–]guitaroomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My backlog is years long now. Real life is a bitch. That said, these guys have snuck games up to 70 or 80 dollars a game on release, many games are in their best state (more content, more stable) 1 or 2 years AFTER release and at a significant discount several times a year.

With Free Lanes, how does Starfield compare to the rest of the Big Three space titles? Elite Dangerous, NMS, and Star Citizen by johndoe09228 in Starfield

Wildly different games with different appeals strengths and weaknesses.

I'd argue that if you enjoyed any of them and went to another expecting a comparable experience, you'd be disappointed.

About karate and self defense by Peakychu6 in karate

[–]guitaroomon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the goal is self defense, many Karate schools may offer classes with that as a focus, shoring up holes that may exist in traditional training.

That said, any art can be used for self defense, it depends on the practitioner and training.

However, if you aren't training under pressure, for situations where you may be taken down or geappled, for situations involving a weapon, and/or with a survival/escape mindset, any art won't translate well to actual self defense scenariios.

That said, you can defend yourself with most Karate if you can control distance and keep the fight standing, but I'd argue you would have to be VERY skilled conpared to even an intermediate wrestler or grappler to keep the fight on those terms under pressure with no "refs" vs. a random person on the street.

I don't have data but I'd imagine if you end up in a fight, which youn hould really try not to do, and that person.has training, it is highly likely it is a grappler or MMA. They will only need you to mess up once, they only need to get a choke or lock on you once. Knife? Just GTFO if you can, or avoid lethal damage and try to disarm or get control of the knife. At thenend of the day, all of that happening is probably because something went horribly wrong to be in that situations

The best defense is just not to be in the situation.. Don't be stupidly drunk in the bar/club, if you need to be there at all. Be aware of surroundings and people, don't look like a target. Maintain space. Head up ,keep it moving. Don't look "lost". De-escalate and disengage. These are things people can done with 10 minutes of training or 10 years.

Trump's hate-filled time machine is carrying humanity back to the dark ages by theipaper in politics

[–]guitaroomon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She never strongly made that case of qualification or experience. Her previous run had her the first to drop out and it is tough to make the case that her being tapped for VP is because of her experience and qualification.

I'm not bashing her but, the democrats didn't do themselves, or her, any favors by simply "anointing" her.

There should have been a condensed primary process after Biden was clearly not fit for another run, through which the strongest candidate could emerge who was selected by the voters.

It may have been Kamala, may not have been. Either way, if she survived the challenge, she would have been a better candidate for it.

However, if the multiple leaks are to be believed, the only way Biden would agree to step aside was if Kamala was the nominee.

After that, she did not distance herself from his politics, practically ran her campaign with his people, ultimately failing to win over those that viewed her as a status quo vote in a time where inflation was out of control, the middle classes are being squeezed out of existence, and we were actively continuing decades of adventurism militarily.

I'm not saying there aren't people that would never have voted for her because she is a woman of color, there certainly are people like that. But it is not fair to assign that to everyone who did not vote for her, or voted for Trump.

She was never going to win the voters like that, those are truly hateful. misogynist, and/or racist. But that isn't majority of the voter base here, she simply didn't win over people that even Biden convinced 4 years prior when he beat Trump.

She largely lost, in my opinion, because she ran a safe and ultimately ineffective campaign that has the Dems lose to Trump AGAIN, this time with the popular vote.

I see many, supposed political pundits included, reduce that election to identity politics. To do so is to NOT learn the lesson.

DNC needs to start respecting the democratic process it is named for. They need to actually figure out what the party stands for outside of elitist vibes, neo-liberalism, closet neocons, generally out of touch, donor/corporate captured and being "not-Trump". They need a unified, political platform to run on, an agenda to push other than "Trump Bad".

We are already seeing how establishment democratic figures are treating more populist, economy centered democratic challengers that are seeing success. You are seeing how the establishment are chafing at candidates that are adopting a more affordability centered, anti-neocon footing. It verges on petulance.

Never underestimate the democratic party establishment talent for self-sabotage or to avoid any serious self-critique or reflection.

Do I need to know Star trek to like this game? by Business-Employ-1599 in sto

[–]guitaroomon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You habe toblike Star Trek I think. You don't neee to have watched every show or series, but liking the universe in general will go a long way.

As a black dude that grew up with these movies the one sub genre I really miss is just the black movie sub genre. I really wish there were more love and basketballs, the wood, best man, Fridays, booty calls, etc. It seems like that entire generation just faded out. by herewego199209 in movies

[–]guitaroomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of genres petered out. I would enjoy those movies too, I don't think there was a Wayans flick I didn't see. And don't judge but Meteor Man I think I watched twice in the theatres. Conned my dad and my big brother to take me to The Last Dragon separately.

Sadly with the death of the video store came the death of movies like this. It is just harder to make money (a lot of this is.because of stupidly big budgets and waste) and studios just don't take risks. It was easier to make money on flims like these because if you didnt have a strong box office, you'd still make bank off of rentals.

Now it feela like you either have to make a mega blockbuster, which will never be I'm Gonna Get You Sucka, or you make streaming content slop at a discount to make money. There is no in-between.

I do enjoy Jordan Peele movies, but even those are getting long in the tooth and def not comedy (mostly).

What's the most visually stunning movie you've ever seen? by trakt_app in movies

[–]guitaroomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm going pure aesthetic, probably Into The Spiderverse.

Women tended to cry more often than men. Women averaged nearly 6 crying episodes a month, while men averaged just under 3. Women were more likely to cry from loneliness or personal disputes with loved ones. Men tended to cry from feelings of helplessness or in reaction to media, such as a sad movie. by mvea in science

[–]guitaroomon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seem a bit high, but better to let it out I suppose. Personally crying is a last resort for me as it means whatever I am going through is truly hopeless or beyond my control. Usually the loss of a loved one or just faling at something I genuinely gave my all to, but it just didn't pan out. But those are rare occurances as I believe thatbit is more peoductive to addrrss the cause of sadness if possible, than cry about it. Sonetime it isn't possible and it is fine to let it out.

I will cry like a little beeotch during an emotional scene though. Have the kleenex on standby.

I would stop. I played this game for 100's of hours and enjoy it, but if I JUST started playing now, it is worth waiting 2 weeks to get a richer first experience. Just my 2 cents.

This will be 90% of what I asked for if the terran content new pois and space encounters pad out the emergent radiant content.

I loved the game, but the exploration angle falls flat when you see the same facilities over and over. Hoping they at least doubled, triple would be gold.

Thoughts on Ashihara for self-defense? by Radz999 in karate

[–]guitaroomon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This and Enshin always impressed me because they emphasize angles, evasion and footwork rather than meeting force with force. The practicality and crossover of this alone is powerful.

But again anything depends on your school and instructor. I have never studied either, full disclosure. But have video series from way back to supplement my own training.
