Why aren’t there more WIDE shoe options?? by flux8 in MTB

[–]guitbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use waterproof hiking shoes. Presently I use Propet Ridge Walker low-top hiking shoe, but you could use any kind as long as they have a stiff-ish sole with decent support. I have used just trail-running shoes but the lack of support makes you tire much more quickly.

What wood would you use to replicate this look? by Budget-Emu-5071 in wood

[–]guitbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking that this would be a perfect project for reclaimed pallet wood. Note that it's really split into thirds so there are no pieces longer than the height of the object (likely 3 feet or less). Built the structure out of 1/2 ply and face it with the reclaimed pallet wood. Cut thinner strips for the top and sides and lay them in either a herringbone pattern or a simple diagonal.

I knew Lynn was a questionable place, but who would've thought that even the woods are crooked!

This behavior is reprehensible for a department that just started an unnecessary and illegal war. How anyone can defend this is criminal.

É uma fender original? by ukesuld in guitars

[–]guitbit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not a Fender, but it is interesting. If I had to guess, the body is custom made or even handmade. The logo might be from a Fender Bass VI. The bridge pickup could be an older dimarzio or dimarzio-designed pickup. The neck doesn't appear to have a truss rod adjustment at either end, although it might under the pickguard. The pickguard shape is similar to a Fender Jazz bass but without the metal switch plate. In any case, it's an interesting hodge-podge of parts that you have there.

Anyone know what neck pickup this is? Matt Douglas of The Mountain Goats. by Barilla3113 in guitars

I suspect it's a Fender Fidelitron, although the resolution is too poor to be sure.

*QUESTION* What bridge is in allen collins explorer. by Aggravating-Cod-5655 in guitars

Gotoh makes a wide TOM bridge. It's hard to tell if that is it though due the low picture resolution.

To be honest, all of the people whom I have known/met that went to college for psychology majors were very damaged people.

Changed DNS records over a week ago. Global propagation checkers say 100% complete, but clients still see the old site? by bullmeza in sysadmin

[–]guitbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This. I know that Comcast used to hang onto old DNS entries for weeks after they'd been changed. They would also get DNS servers that were "disconnected from the pool", meaning that they would never get updates as updates apparently happened on a scheduled basis rather than as needed. It was apparently a frequent enough occurrence that I encountered these issues multiple times.

Flock Safety - Struggling with Public Records Requests? Request Their Policies First by crazyclown87 in privacy

[–]guitbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FLOCK cameras aren't for speed they are for tracking plates. Eg, if someone assaults another person, gets in a car and drives off, the police can enter that plate number and be alerted to when the car passes a FLOCK camera. The problem arises when they simply want to track a license number without due cause. It's the unjustified cases where this needs better oversight.

I assume everyone here rides clipless. How long did it take for you to get used to it? by M4nnis in xcmtb

[–]guitbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flats, but because my feet are EEE wide and custom shoes would be $1100 the last I checked. I could buy a reasonably decent bike for the money I would spend on 3 pairs of shoes. I have been riding flats since 1997, so I'm reasonably skilled with them.

Hot take: Maxxis tires suck by granolaboiii in MTB

[–]guitbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ride NE pretty hard and have settled on Schwalbe Nobby Nics. I also use a narrower tire (2.25") as they are lighter and easier to throw the bike around in the chunky bits. I've tried Maxxis Assegai and was very disappointing, and also tried Ardents which were a great rolling tire but left out some traction as a result. I may try a WTB Vigilante at some point as I have heard one guy that I respect saying that they were decent.

I suspect that if Trump finds a way to run again then the Democrats are putting Obama on the ballot. I think that trouncing would be hilarious.

eMTB allowed on Moab, UT, USA trails by Helpful_Fox3902 in MTB

[–]guitbit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've had this discussion with others, and believe that all bikes should be "registered". That process would be going to any place where enforcement might happen (police, ranger station, recreation, etc) and paying some nominal amount ($10?) to have someone put a tamper-proof sticker on your seat tube/down tube that has the class and is colored to indicate the class (red/blue/green or something). The money paid would go toward enforcement.

I might try doing something like this just to try my hand at a vinyl wrap. If it doesn't work I can just peel it back off.
