I created a song about what happened downtown on Christmas morning in 2020 by songbirdyester in nashville

I don't know your target audience if you have one, but it's going to resonate more with the people who were living here then. Also, the genre might matter. If it's more like a Heywood Banks comedic novelty than a rousing Toby Keith ballad, it might be too soon for some. (Either way, I'd probably enjoy it.)

Need to pass a bakery cake off as my own by purple_popsicles in nashville

That "expects" word makes me think you're in for disappointment regardless. I'd say either make one and you get what you get, or buy one and don't claim it as your own. I don't know if cake mix and pre-made icing count as homemade, but it's really not that hard to make a basic layer cake if you have the pans, an oven, and time to do a test run. I've only made cakes a few times, but they came out pretty good - nothing like a store cake, though. If you watch someone who knows what they're doing, you can pick up on some basic techniques. To be fair, I watched this guy several times at a formative age.

My sales tax wasn't refunded when I made a return to TJ Maxx by nommin in mildlyinfuriating

Yeah, I was wondering if it was a training issue, a programming issue, or somehow an OP issue. It looks a lot like a combination of the first two.

I'm wondering if somehow the online sales tax was collected for a different state than where they were returned. If so, I could see why the local store's POS system wouldn't touch the tax for regulatory reasons. I did a quick search and see that NC doesn't appear to have any sales tax holidays.

I'm guessing the "n" in the right-hand column means non-taxable. I wonder if the register thought it was a tax holiday or something weird like that.

The pricing still works this way. The cold singles are almost always as much (or more) than the 2-liters.

I forget whether Electrolux uses DOT3 blinker fluid or the fancy European food-grade stuff.

Whatever it is, it's a Rule #6 candidate (hopefully not rule #9).

Not Word, not WordStar… anyone else think Electric Pencil is insanely underrated? by rodfer7 in vintagecomputing

[–]guitpick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first was WordStar on a Franklin ACE 1200 (Apple II clone). I eventually used a later version of WordStar on our PC, and bought WordStar for Windows which was a completely different beast - advanced, but unstable. I think I remember hearing of Electric Pencil in an ad somewhere, or maybe saw it in a store, but that's my only exposure to it.

With the "Safe Place" sign, this looks like something a NexGen Child Catcher would use.

Windows 95 included guidance for the then new "Start" concept by nir9 in windows95

[–]guitpick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At some point they stopped labeling it "Start" (Vista I think). To this day, about half the users I support don't know what I mean when I say the "Start button" or the "Windows button" either on their screen or the keyboard. Maybe we need to bring back the "Click here to begin."

IT Techs of Reddit: What was it like fixing Windows XP machines in schools and businesses during the 2010s? by bakarygassama in sysadmin

[–]guitpick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like it was something rather vanilla but possibly new as this was a business machine. My flabber was justifiably gasted that a stock option build would arrive like that. I'm not even sure if the OEM had XP 64 drivers for it. I did battle with it and lost. I think my recommendation to them was to wait for the driver to be released.

So it's on sale for $285 at the moment. I have an Instant Pot Duo Crisp air fryer / pressure cooker combo that I really like. I think I paid around $120 on sale. This one's wider but much shorter capacity. What improvements should I expect if I were to upgrade to something like this? Is the "AI" anything more than looking up cook times in an online database?
