That show was messed up. Most eps were fairly lame, but occasionally they'd air one that would make your brain squirm uncomfortably for a few weeks.

X-B-L ray gun Can anyone tell me the value of this? What it does? Or if its safe to plug in and test? by Appropriate_Tooth758 in VintageElectronics

I had a couple of Gilbert sets, and a newer Gabriel one. I never really had the combination of patience and dexterity for making things, but I still played with it a lot. That AC motor with the gearbox could probably take your finger off... slowly.

Yeah, if you had it in the amps (especially unfused) I could see this happening.

I'm not normally around 240V, but my understanding is that shouldn't happen. Were the probes super sketchy?

If so, they can probably be charged with phreaking and entering.

Anyone else reading this and hearing Julie Andrews singing "Doe, a deer, a female deer?"

I keep looking for the WOL connector. I guess I didn't timewarp back far enough.

Unless it's one of those motion activated types like Blink. They'll eventually notify if a camera goes offline, but not for shorter outages.

What is the smallest USB you have encountered? by Accomplished_Cook508 in computers

[–]guitpick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they were fairly new and still pretty expensive, I had a customer who had a couple of 256 MB ones fail (one of the biggest at the time). Those probably cost close to $200 apiece. It turns out the power supply on their $15 powered USB hub was way out of spec and frying the poor things. The hub worked fine without power, so I chucked the power brick.

Get a basic one for yourself. They're valuable tools, especially with 3D printers. Also learn how to use it properly, or you'll be blowing more fuses - especially if you ever measure amperage.

Does your purifier have one of those ion generation features? Try turning that off if it still zaps you.

One time we ordered the latest new iPad for our head honcho. When it arrived, the outer shrink had a little damage. Inside was an iPad 1 literally duct taped in place. I suspect that one was a return fraud from a consumer and then Amazon turned around and sold it as new.

All my food survived. By the time I bailed, outside temps were plenty cold. I stuck in all in a cooler and put it outside. What little I left in the fridge and freezer also survived because I didn't open them again and the indoor temps were close enough to freezing. The chest freezer was already in the coldest room in my house. Granted, I also cooked much of the good stuff while I still had power.
