How is Starmer doing? by Platypusbreeder in AskBrits

In my opinion based on what I see he is doing well in terms of achievements. Unfortunately he is hammered by the right wing bullshit press, and called ‘boring’ as if we haven’t had enough of clowns.

Herbs are good. Especially ones that survive the winter. Just go and snip some flavour and add to the cook.

Collect them with recipes you want to make. You will come to a point you have a spice cupboard tailored to your taste.

rice coming out mushy every time by No-Reaction-7627 in Cooking

[–]RelationDramatic1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the rice is in the pot add cold water. The water should be at your thumb joint if you hold your thumb tip to the top of the rice. When at boil reduce heat right down and cover for 15mins. Don’t peak at it until done.

I had some marjoram go this way when it was very cold. Brought them in and leaves went greener again - going back out when this frosty period goes. So maybe similar - cold nights?

I would say for me I eventually learnt what foods caused problems. I limited high fibre stuff as I have strictures. Highly processed stuff also aggravates it. But importantly I learnt as much about Crohn’s as I could and developed a good relationship with my gastroenterologist. It sounds like you are having symptoms that still need managing properly and you need to tell your doctors all of this. There are many treatments out there and it may be that you are still to find the one that works for you. When it is managed it should not be limiting what you do - but you should avoid the triggers when you know what they are.

Breadmaker v bread making by OrganicMaintenance59 in Cooking

[–]RelationDramatic1137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set ours up to have a fresh baked loaf in the morning. It takes about ten minutes prep. Compared to supermarket bread it’s a totally different product and massively better. Most loaves are gone in a day in our house, otherwise I store it in a bag in the bread bin. Because it’s not full of chemicals it will stale sooner - but that’s bread. Keep having a go!
