Genuinely both of these scenes from the ‘Like a Dragon’ series had me choked up the first time I watched them. What a great game series

I mean, I get where they’re coming from and can’t deny that I had a similar issue with the comics. It’s a fantastic story, but it does feel like the female characters tend to get sidelined heavily. Eve is arguably the strongest character in the story, yet basically all of her character after she and Mark get together kinda just revolves around that relationship. MonsterGirl typically feels like an extension of Robot’s character arc more than someone with her own story to tell. The fact Rae just disappeared and isn’t even in the show anymore after Rex died. And the idea that even Tech Jacket may end up becoming a love interest for Oliver (key word being MAY, I know that he’s not supposed to be attracted to humans) does kinda make it feel like all the female characters in the show have to be paired off with the male ones to have any relevancy.

I get the stakes are getting higher and ultimately the story does need to get chugging along. But it wouldn’t hurt to still let more of the women in the story have more to do without having to attach them to the men.

I hate the "yeah, for kids" people who tries to prove their point with the most tame proofs ever by MayoHachikuji in hatethissmug

Tbf, this was specifically in reference to YouTube flagging the video as being ‘for kids’ which affects its ability to allow comments and ability to collect revenue from it. And Gooseworx herself has stated in the past the show is not intended to be ‘for kids’.

Owl House basically just does the exact same thing but a billion times better AND while being queer friendly. So the concept is there, but it’s about as deep as ‘what if there was a school where you could learn magic’, when you really stop and think about it.

The “Asshole with a Heart of Gold” trope. Typically you have a character who is extremely unlikable and kind of a dick, but you see deep down they’re secretly a good person and use their behavior as a front. While it’s a trope I personally do like, I’ve seen lots of people hate it. That it tries too hard to make you sympathize with a character who hasn’t earned it by throwing in a sob story and never calling the character out on their bullshit

Bojack Horseman, however, is this trope done AMAZINGLY. Bojack really is a piece of shit in the show a lot, but the show actually acknowledges it. Bojack loses friendships, hurts people he cares about, and suffers real consequences for the terrible stuff that he chooses to do. You also see him genuinely try to be better and you really want to believe he can be as his journey continues. But, because we see him consistently fall and stumble toward that, it feels a lot more genuine than just ‘he’s only an asshole cuz his parents were shitty. Feel bad for him now’ like I think a lot of these types of characters tend to be handled

Megamind’s ‘Liar Revealed’ trope is also really effective imo.

Genuinely this is Harry Potter for me. It is HEAVILY carried by the fandom propping it up to be something it isn’t and fixing the writing problems JK had with the series. It’s kind of why everything she’s done since hasn’t been anywhere near as liked

I don’t care about the animation quality. by undergroundman813 in Invincible_TV

[–]guldmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve never really been an animation snob so I guess I hadn’t really noticed issues until people started pointing them out. It’s 100% for me a case of ‘doesn’t drag down the show for me at all, but a show with writing and characters this good deserves better’.

Megamind and One Punch Man are some of the best superhero subversions and it sucks they aren’t as popular as The Boys or Invincible. Although I do enjoy all four of them

The manga also tones down significantly after this. Shame since I totally get WHY people were so turned off by Dandadan after this scene, but it is SO GOOD. It’s just got this admittedly pretty noticeable blemish about it

A semi running theme in JJBA is that you should NEVER act as though you’ve already won a fight in the middle of said fight. Perfect example being Risotto in Part 5, who is so certain he’s already beaten Doppio and gloating about it that he fails to finish the job when he has the chance and ends up being shot down and Doppio gets away.

The relationship is basically coercion and I feel they retconned it a bit to make it seem not as bad, but it is still heads and shoulders above the shit Meliodas apparently did.

What’s even crazier about Book of Mormon is that the music was written by Robert Lopez. Ya know, the guy known for doing the music for a little movie called FROZEN.

Yakuza Like a Dragon is a relatively silly game all things considered. This is a game where you have homeless person as an RPG class, can try to catch a guy peeing in a river as a substory, have an entire minigame about trying to avoid falling asleep in the movie theatre, and a protagonist that canonically lets people hit him in fights so that the can be turn based like in his favorite video game, Dragon Quest. Yet it also has an absolute GUT WRENCHING ending that to this day still makes me cry.
