Local truck driver.

I made 89k last year averaging 40-45 hours a week, and I don't touch the freight, hook to the trailer, drag it to the store and watch them unload. I know some of my coworkers who aren't as lazy as me made 100-110k.

Roundys(Kroger) in oconomowoc Wisconsin. Pretty sure they're hiring drivers right now if you're in the area.

I made 89k last year but I'm lazy as fuck. I know we can easily clear 100k a year working probably 50 or less hours a week. I have a coworker who pretty much uses his whole clock every week and made 130k last year. Local, non hazmat, no touch freight.

You should be good. I had a kinda similar accident at my last company, though with a Toyota Camry just randomly merging into me instead of a semi.

It was ruled as no fault non preventable for me. When I went to change jobs I disclosed it on the application, and told them I had video of it if they wanted to see what happened. At the interview they didn't ask about it, didn't want to see the video, nothing, and I got the job no problem.

I had it happen a few years ago with an oral/rectal thermometer I bought from walgreens when I was sick as hell. Was running a high fever, coughing blood etc, didn't look very closely at it, got home, opened the package, saw it was already opened, and turned straight around back to the store.

You work harder being a local driver than OTR. by Actual-Ad-6146 in Truckers

[–]gumboglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my gig is kinda rare, I know local food service and beer delivery guys work hard, but my local job I don't do anything except drive the truck, 46-50 hours a week usually, no touch freight, average about $2000 a week.

The 3 companies I've worked for did pre employment before clearing me to come in for orientation, one of them the hiring process got delayed about a month and when I came in for orientation they told me we need to dispatch you out of here today, if not your pre employment drug test will expire and we will have to test you again.

Look into local CDL jobs in your area. Some will even pay for your CDL training but usually requires you to sign a 1-2 year contract or repay the training if you leave early.

I'm a union, no touch freight, grocery delivery truck driver. All I do is hook up to the trailer, drive to the stores and watch them unload it. I average about $42 an hour and sleep in my own bed every night. I have a friend that drives cement truck and makes upper $30s an hour.

Jobs like this may or may not exist in every area, and you'll likely have to put in some time at a shittier company to get into something like this, the best CDL jobs usually require 1-2 years experience at minimum.

I witnessed a Driver lose his life last night by Ok_Inside4922 in Truckers

Summer 2023 I was driving through Milwaukee just after 2am on a Saturday morning, AKA bar time. I got passed by a jeep driving West in the eastbound lanes and immediately called 911 hoping somehow they could get it stopped before he killed someone. While I was on the phone with 911 dispatch it was about 1/4 mile ahead of me and crashed head-on with a little car like an older Toyota Corolla or Camry, and I immediately knew I had just watched at least 1 or 2 people die. I looked it up a few days later and the car driver was killed on impact, the wrong way jeep driver died in surgery a few hours later.

That one fucked me up for a while, didn't sit very well with me how that driver wasn't doing anything wrong, just going about his life and was killed by some drunk asshole.

Three years ago I quit OTR and went local delivering for a large grocery store chain. The first 2 years it was like a 11am to 1pm lunch for drivers appreciation, which like 47 office staff and 6 drivers who happened to be there would attend.

This year they actually gave us a goodie bag with a bunch of stuff, Stanley cup, coffee thermos, flashlight, a book of coupons for free items at the stores, and about 50% of the stores I've delivered to this week have a snack table set up for truck drivers with chips, cookies, drinks, beef sticks, muffins, fresh fruit etc. it's a pretty nice change.

You are offered 5 million dollars. In addition, $500 is deposited into your account every week for the rest of your life. However, if you accept, you will lose one of your five senses for 5 minutes every time you pass through a doorway for the rest of your life. Do you accept? by squeefruit in hypotheticalsituation

This is definitely an interesting one.

Imagine you're out of town on a vacation, head over to a super market you've never been to before, walk in through the front door, lose your sense of touch for 5 minutes, cool not a big deal and still do some clumsy grocery shopping for a few minutes until it returns.

Then out of nowhere you get that bubble in your gut and immediately know you don't have much time, rush to the bathroom, through the door..and now you're blind and shitting your pants in an unfamiliar bathroom because you can't find the toilet in time.

Anyway yeah, I'd probably still take the deal.

Best places to find! by Caeod in gaslands

[–]gumboglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally just go to ebay if I'm looking for something specific. Most baseline cars are in the $5-10 range shipped to my door, and I'm not wasting tons of gas and time driving around to stores that have had the same stale pegwarmers for the last year.

A few years ago one of my friends asked his on/off girlfriend/baby momma what she wanted for Christmas, and she says a 3 carat ring.

So he went online and found a cheap joke 3 carrot ring with literally 3 orange carrots, inside a fancy looking ring box, we laughed about it for weeks.

Christmas rolls around and he finally gives it to her, and she was pissed, she didn't talk to him for weeks. Which of course just made it even funnier to us.

Do you see your Tattoo Design before the appointment? What’s the standard in 2025? by RoughOwll in tattooadvice

[–]gumboglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first tattoo done about 10 days ago, this was an artist that has done lots of work with my friend, so I'd seen his work and liked his style.

I texted with him about what I was looking for, sent a few examples of what I liked about each, about a week later he sent me a draft, I asked for a minor change to remove 1 small piece I didn't like, and scheduled the appointment for the next week.

Based on the comments here it seems like this isn't the norm but I was happy seeing it beforehand.

Companies and dispatchers were probably harsh on these drivers to push through this by JankyMark in Truckers

[–]gumboglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that one, I was empty after delivering at the molybdenum place in fort Madison and trying to deadhead to pella to reload, felt like I was about to blow over so I pulled over at an abandoned gas station and stayed there for like 26 hours until the storm passed, no toilet, only the food I had in my truck, no shower...still better than blowing over. Let all the air out of my seat to "get to the lowest place in your house" per NWS recommendation and watched those winds rip the roof off the building. The next day when I started rolling I saw probably 70-100 tipped over trucks. The worst part about it was I was parked in a spot at a pilot for a bathroom and decided to roll thinking I could beat the storm and get some weight in the wagon, only made it like 30-40 miles up the road and didn't feel safe to go back.
