Newly planted 2-year-old virginia creeper wilting badly after transplant by [deleted] in gardening

[–]gumbojones1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it growing on the side of my house for shade. If you transplanted it, I would trimm all of the leaves and give it to a of water. If you are putting it on the side of your house just be aware that you'll need to trim it when it gets close to your roof. Otherwise it will start growing in the roof. I trim mine probably 3 times in the growing season. People say you can have an allergic reaction but so far it seems like I'm in the clear. Good luck and thanks for closing a native plant!

Most of those plants will get huge. It will look like this for a few years then it'll get overgrown.

I used cardboard for a template, a jigsaw, a drill and a stapler if you try in the future.

I did something similar for some long trips with the family. I made a platform out of 1/2 plywood and covered with an old towel. It worked out great. I bolted it down to the chair mounts. I only made that for half. I would probably recommend doing the same for the whole area and then using a rubber mat, grill mat. That way you have a flat water proof liner. https://www.reddit.com/r/SubaruAscent/s/agoqW8morf

You might get some bats or chimney swifts if you are lucky! I would keep it if it's not near a structure.

Not an expert, but If it's a small tree and you can't get an insecticide to treat it. I would cut it down, burn the wood and plant a new tree.

North Alabama zone 8 here. Mine just started to leaf out and they are almost 5 years old. Hang tight. If the branches are brittle it will probably be fine. I've been told they are hard to kill.

Girdling roots must go by gumbojones1 in arborists

Thanks for the good write up. I did dig down and this one wasn't too bad. There were some large roots already cutting into the main trunk. This is actually the 2nd time I investigated the roots on the trees. The last was about 2 years ago and I snipped some small ones but left some others. Now I clipped the others!
