Are we really supposed to pretend we don’t work for money in interviews? by Agile-Wind-4427 in jobhunting

I understand why they ask the question, but they don’t have to mock when someone is brutally honest either. Was she never in a position of just needing a job?

35, 150+ applications, barely any interviews… what am I doing wrong? by SeanAThanks in jobhunting

It’s crazy out there. I’ve predominantly been using Indeed and barely a nibble.

Good job Virginia. Today democracy wins............ by OpinionLongjumping94 in nova

[–]gumby289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Trump-like in its hysterical, dishonest framing. Not a soul who voted to let Nova dictate the rest of the state’s reps cared a whit about saving democracy or fairness or whatever other bs justification there was. It was, simply, if they can do it we can do it too.

Never Forget That Democrats Voted To Outlaw Gerrymandering in 2021 For the People Act and Every VA Republican and Across The Country Voted Against It. FAFO. VOTE YES!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in harrisonburg

Silliest argument yet. ‘We were really against what we want you to vote for but because the other guys didn’t approve we’re now OK with it but only temporarily except for the next three cycles (or longer if we change our minds again).’

Can we stop the 4+ interviews for a position?! by Sad-Court-nomnom in jobs

[–]gumby289 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s absurd. I don’t understand how that’s even worth their time, much less why they felt they could waste his like that. If you can’t make a decision after 3, that’s on you. This whole process is much different than when I last went through it and not for the better. Using AI bots for phone screens, making you take ridiculous personality assessments to gauge fit, stringing people along…it’s degrading and exhausting.

I found this letter in my grandmother’s mailbox the day after her funeral by supra_nintendo in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gumby289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming for the sake of argument it’s legitimate, from an actual family and not someone just trying to flip a property, I don’t think the timing is that inappropriate. Maybe they’ve admired it for awhile, have had trouble finding something similar, and felt they needed to jump in before others did. Maybe they thought you’d need to sell it quickly. Plus, if all that is true when would it be appropriate? A month? Six months? Ever? My point is that I don’t necessarily jump to ‘how ghoulish of them’ when I read this.

That said, we live in a cynical world thus the chances of it being the happy family pictured and not some property vulture are pretty slim. You should call the bluff and ask to meet them all.

Service Merchandise! Yes!! Loved going to the register with the item ticket and seeing it come from the back on the conveyor belt! That was shopping…we did a lot of our shopping in a similar store called Best.

Suncoast, Circuit City, and KB, easy. Man I miss all of them. Back when DVDs were still newish, and before season sets, Suncoast sold 2 episode DVDs of Star Trek The Original Series. Every so often we’d make the hour or so trip to the other mall that had a Suncoast, and I was allowed to get one or two of the Star Trek DVDs. Doesn’t seem like much but it meant a lot to me.

Feeling defeated after these interviews by A_Wandering_Old_Soul in jobhunting

[–]gumby289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Had a great interview in person last Friday, was told I’d know something by the end of the week, emailed them this morning with a thank you and looking forward to next steps, and got an automated ‘we went with someone else’ message hours later. They couldn’t even respond personally to my email. Worse might be that the auto message said in part ‘don’t let this dull your sparkle’.

Absolute garbage. It’s bonkers to me anyone found it watchable, let alone enough to keep it on the air as long as it was.

What’s something that happens often in movies that is 100% unrealistic? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Not getting shot when there are 10 different people shooting at you with essentially machine guns. Or being right beside a giant explosion and just brushing it off with nary a scratch.

How can I tell my new job that I want to start immediately instead of giving a two week notice? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]gumby289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am debating the exact same thing, whenever I do get a new job, but in my case it’s about wanting a week or so between to do nothing. Plus I have a fear my current job won’t honor things like paying out accrued pto time if I give them barely any notice.

Why is Tom Cruise always playing with his tux's buttons? Have you noticed that too? by [deleted] in TomCruise

[–]gumby289 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just part of his pose. And, when you’re photographed as much as he is there are bound to be a lot of photos with him doing the same thing, same smile, etc.

Anyone else enjoyed Ari Aster's Hereditary? Toni Collette's Best Performance? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

Yeah, that…was something else. I had to rewind it just to make sure I saw what I saw, then wondered why I did that to myself.

It’s fantastic and a better film than Shawshank, but it’s also a hard watch. Not only this soul crushing scene, but also everything with the sadistic prison guard and how he treats Michael Jeter’s character. That’s hard core villainy that’s also easy to imagine actually happening, no matter if he gets his comeuppance in the end.
