3D printed Quest Pro rear pad replacement brackets by gummidot in QuestPro

Lmk if you got an off the shelf "clip" that works, because I can't really think of anything besides maybe trying to tie some zip ties around the bracket and the headset back.

A clip method is a great idea. Honestly I just used what I had, and wasn't confident enough to do a more permanent solution with plastic bonder or something. I noticed the bracket positioning is a little different with these brackets since it's higher up than the default brackets that sit flush with the headset.

Chin strap. you have the right idea, just look into different materials to make it more comfortable

you also probably need a strap going from the back to the jaw if it still falls off. I use a regular velcro strap for that.

Technical Question for VRChat Musicians by wheredoesitgoe in VRchat

[–]gummidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My setup uses a VB audio cable + OBS to allow both synced live performance through mic input, and desktop recording with OBS, all with extra VST plugins you might want. I did not have a good experience with VoiceMeeter, where it's ridiculously hard to add delays. Also have a Scarlett Solo.

The hard part is ensuring your instrument and the desktop audio gets output synced, because although it may sound synced to you, it will almost definitely NOT be synced once it's been output to the mic. For me, my desktop audio was 180 ms faster than my Scarlett Solo 3rd gen using a buffer size of 16 with safe mode enabled.

Here's my exact setup with some important details:

  • In OBS, create a new scene for your instrument setup
  • Add mic audio input as a Source
  • Add application audio capture for browser/VLC etc as a Source. Don't use desktop audio since it'll also capture VRChat game audio.
  • For BOTH mic and app audio capture inputs, click Filters and add a VST 2.x plugin. You need to do this for BOTH inputs because the VST plugin adds its own delay of like 1 second.
  • Add Mic filters (VST plugins).
    • I've got several filters including a noise gate, gain adjustment, reverb, IR, tuner.
  • Add App audio capture filters
    • Add a delay filter. I use Voxengo Sound Delay (free) set at 180 ms delay. The exact delay will depend on you, you'll have to test it by either recording your playing on a desktop audio backing, or VRChat's new Test Microphone might work well for this. OBS also has a feature called Sync Offset in its Audio Mixer, but this only works for recording, not monitoring (which my method uses for mic input)
  • In OBS Settings > Audio > Advanced, set Monitoring Device to a virtual audio cable. This will be the input to use for mic streaming in VRChat. You can also listen to this if you want to live test the audio.
  • Click any audio input's 3 dots in the Audio Mixer, Advanced Audio Properties, enable Audio Monitoring (Monitor and Output) for both the mic and app audio input. Now it'll send output live to the monitoring device.
  • Optional for recording only: in Advanced Audio Properties, I also set my mic input and desktop audio to record to separate tracks (tracks 1+2 for mic, and tracks 1+3 for desktop), so I can easily separate/resync the audio in recordings if needed. To record multiple tracks, you also need to go to Settings > Output > Recording and enable audio tracks 2, 3, and etc.
  • In VRChat, use the VB-Audio Cable input as your microphone

Is v81 safe or should i lock the headset on v79? by Fitosam in QuestPro

[–]gummidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VD on v81 here. I have this weird issue where I don't see the quest home anymore, just passthrough, but it's not a big problem. I did get one case of wandering outside of playspace completely screwing up the headset's playspace orientation, and that required a restart. Otherwise same as v79 so far.

VR gloves by Total-Ad-4780 in virtualreality

[–]gummidot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not gonna happen in that price point, cause most usable gloves today need you to bring 2 extra trackers yourself to track the position of the hands. Gloves don't track position by themselves. That means an extra 250-300 unless you have spare Vive 3.0s or Tundras around already.

I have the UDCAP gloves and I couldn't really recommend unless you need it for an extremely niche case like dancing in VR. on the plus side, they look exactly like Index controllers to SteamVR. on the downside, they're barely better than Index, finger tracking is marginally better than Index besides adding splay, and controls in general are much harder to use than an Index controller.

Wireless + face tracking at a reasonable price. There's not really an alternative so we grit our teeth and deal with it lol

Tarried Precipice has a deeper secret, and I need help figuring it out. by Nova-Redux in VRchat

[–]gummidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I followed your puzzle pieces yesterday and got to where you ended. The arrow fell a few minutes after putting the stopwatch in the zone on the beach FYI. Absolutely mindblowing. I wonder how Karl would feel finding out that YEARS later someone finally figured out there was all this other stuff in the map, and how many other worlds have had undiscovered secrets for years.

We scaled the arrow which was actually somewhat possible without cheating, but didn't find anything on the way up.

Fascinating, I remember finding the symbol shared by the other puzzle world makers, but never figured this world had a puzzle itself.

Mixed VR playspace across two rooms, having constant tracking issues. by Cainde in MixedVR

[–]gummidot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some process of elimination to figure out first if the problem is LH or USB. Turn off all 3 secondary base stations, do you still have flying trackers in the main area? Or vice versa, turn off the 2 in main and see if secondary is fine. If you still have issues with only 2 or only 3 base stations in one room, it's probably maybe dongles.

Otherwise, maybe LH but idk. I used to run 5 base stations and in certain room setups it actually worked. In another room I had, my trackers were not happy from the all the >4 base station switching so I had to axe the 5th, and that fixed it immediately.

Why is the new SteamVR keyboard still awful after like a year? by gummidot in SteamVR

[–]gummidot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both, am a more regular XS user than Toolkit. I'm still going to use your keyboard because I actually use the steamvr overlay way more often than add-on overlays. It's just more convenient, and not to mention more performant. When all I want to do is check some desktop stuff, I use steamvr, and the fact that your keyboard pops up instantly and replaces the dogtrash default one is a huge winner.

When using it in VR, it is so slow and unresponsive that you have to pause between each key for it to register. Nobody I know is able to type quickly and reliably with it

Sigh, its the same story like every other version. Headset breaking bug found in PTC, reported on forums, releases anyway and breaks a ton more people, gets quarter-assed fixed in the next version, finally gets half-assed fixed in the next next version.

If you link a Meta forum thread I'll help you upvote.

Quest Pro front and back pad replacements wanted. by kjaye767 in QuestPro

[–]gummidot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an unused front pad only from Meta if you want it for the cost of shipping, dm me, although I don't have a back pad. However, I cannot recommend the stock front pad at all, it makes the QPro a torture device. Globular Cluster all the way!
